Did they already start removing trees? Also my argument is trees make a good background picture for your subject. Say if you took a picture of Millennium Force in the past and a for example and you come back in the spring and those trees are gone, all the sudden it feels empty in that area.
But if they would have gotten rid of those trees to begin with, it would never have looked empty and would always seems to be the best Millennium Force it can be!
Doesn't look to me like they've taken trees out at all yet. Just a theatre and Dodgems. Maybe when they cut into the land that the car ride is in they might take out trees. They can always replant when they finish their construction. Look at Maverick. That area has a nice atmosphere around it. CP has no land to build on and no trees. What I wonder about is why all these tree huggers pay to go to a place that consumes more electricity in an hour than most people consume in a decade.
Can't wait to see the park for myself when they are finished with the work in the open areas of the park. They got alot of fences to put up. The fences at one time where trees.:)
Oh, I believe they have. There was a nice row of medium sized trees along the brick wall between Dodgem and Goodtime Theater. I know this because on one visit I had just arrived at the park and took advantage of that quiet space to sit on the wall to catch a coke and a smoke. Maybe it was my punishment for not using a designated smoking area, but some dirty birdie in the tree above me took aim and pooped all over the back of my shirt.
My next stop was the ten dollar store for a cheap shirt I could wear for the rest of the day. I found something really, really nice too. (not)
Just a reminder that trees are living things and sometimes they die of things like disease, injury and old age. Also, it takes quite a few years to grow a young tree to be a shade-level provider.
If you took some time to see how many trees currently exist on CP as you walk around, I think you would be surprised by how many there actually are. For anyone who thinks they are even the least bit sparse, I challenge you to find an open place in CP where you can stand and not see a lot, and I mean a LOT of trees, both old growth and newer.
Is it just me or does this argument about trees come up every year? Guess what, CP needs to take down trees to build new rides in certain locations... You think they can just build around the parameters of the trees? No... and guess what? New trees are built around the new ride/area afterwards. Sure, they may be small and not give shade for another good few years, but eventually they will grow in. Looks how everyone complained about the trees taken out by STR and Maverick... Years have gone by and those areas have grown in pretty well.
I rode White Water Landing on opening day in 1982, and while we thought the ride was great, it sat in a mud pit. By 2005 the area had grown into one of the prettiest attractions at Cedar Point, only to be shorn once again and replanted for Maverick. Time heals everything.
The tweet is talking about Carowinds, not Cedar Point

Why does everyone hate Shoot the Rapids? I for one think it is a great ride.

Wait a sec.. If *everyone* hates Shoot The Rapids, why don't you? You're not part of everyone? Whoa.

You forgot about me here. I love Shoot the Rapids!
I also really enjoy Shoot the Rapids. Way better than the water rides at Canada's Wonderland. Also, I agree that it's sad that Cedar Point is tearing out trees, and they could use a lot more in the first half of the park. From the main entrance to Coasters diner, there are very few trees in my opinion, as well as around Kiddy Kingdom and MaXair (though, I'll admit I've been spoiled by Wonderland). I understand why they have to take them out, and I know that they'll plant more, but it is still sad.
Cedar Point definitely needs more trees!
The should just tear down Top Thrill Dragster and replace it with trees.
I mean... That ride's only.. what? 17 seconds long anyway? And it only has ONE hill!
Trees would be prettier, not break down as much, and give everyone a nice shady place to sit!
There are two options as I see:
1) Matthew was serious
2) Matthew was not serious
I know which one you picked

Yea, CP should totally spend millions to tear down a highly marketable ride just so we can plant a couple dozen trees that will provide sufficient shade (and atmosphere or whatever) in a couple decades.
That's EXACTLY what I'm saying! Glad we're on the same page! :)
In fact... I think they should tear down all the roller coasters and replace them with trees. Imagine how shady it would be!
Except Rougarou... It's gonna be amazing... So just Rougarou and a bunch of trees...
Maybe they could keep Raptor too... 'Cause it's green... Like a tree... (Well... Green and white with the bird poop... But birds live in trees... So it's all good...)
Other than that though? Just trees. The park would be soooo much better!

Yes, it comes up every year. I've always known CP to plant new trees when mature ones are ripped out. Case in point: the small old main entrance trees (from 2012) and big one by the front gate bathrooms(before Gatekeeper) that were ripped out, CP planted new ones around the new main entrance plaza. Also as others have noted: the WWL/Maverick projects, new ones were planted also. For every tree around the Turnpike area that is being taken out this year, a new one will probably be planted. **Here's a pic of some NEW trees that are going to be planted this year that weren't there last year. https://www.cedarpoint.com/rides/New-In-2015/Wicked-Twister-Midway
Hopefully enough to satisfy those that remember the "charm" of the park and the nature/tree lovers.
Now let's move along....
