It's a sad day when you forget to put one stupid smiley at the end of your sentence and someone assumes (and lets you know) you're being serious about something that's an obviously sarcastic reply to an obvious sarcastic remark. There's nothing "bad" about cutting down trees when the end game is clean energy.

Seriously. The carbon offset for such a huge consumer of electricity produced mostly from fossil fuels is a big win. Besides, it's adjacent land, not the in the park itself, which is what everyone is complaining about.

How flipping cool would it be if CP could somehow be run entirely by windmills and solar panels? I know they don't have room as it is and there's a thousand reasons why it's not practical but...

It would be cool to cover CP's parking lot with solar panels installed on top of carport-like structures.

But even if you did the entire parking lot (probably around 30 acres if I had to guess?), it's still far less than what they're doing in NJ. But every little bit helps.

I like the parking lot idea. I think they could install solar panels on the coaster station roofs and on the Breakers roof as well in addition to other buildings on the property.

I wasn't aware that the parking lot was considered charming as it stands today. Are you saying solar panels will further reduce the appeal of asphalt and concrete?

That aside, it would actually help with "parking lot appeal", because when the sun is hitting the panels, it's not boiling the cars beneath.

While they wouldn't look as visually appealing, it's more environmentally friendly and could save the park on energy costs. But realistically, I don't think the park will ever install panels in the parking lot or on roofs.

I doubt the park would invest that kind of money into installing them when it would take that long to get a return on the investment.

There's another option for the parking lot... A good chunk of it sits empty throughout the year. It's only full on the busiest days.

I saw a video a while back for "Solar Freaking Roadways". I thought it was a pretty amazing idea. It's a real thing.

For that matter you could re-pave all of the midways with these things. Imagine... The midway would light up under your feet as you walked on it at night!

Again... Is it practical? Probably not. Is it a cool idea? Totally.

The green energy idea for CP is a good Idea but less economical for the park vs SF in New Jersey. Rates for electricity in New Jersey are roughly 20%-40% (currently 20%) higher for commercial users in New Jersey then Ohio. The ROI for SF will come much quicker then they could/would for CP.

Why did so many of you make fun of the idea of parking garages last year, but you think putting solar panels on top of giant carports is a good idea? I respect your opinions-- but why, of all places, would an amusement park parking lot be a considerable location for a solar farm? Why would it even have to be at Cedar Point.

The implementation of solar panels would be a whole lot more plausible if they were placed on the roofs of existing buildings within the park. I support the concept of solar panels, but CP would have to cut into their funds (for new attractions) to pay for them. The return on the investment would eventually save the park money over time, though.
