Cedar Point's Next Coaster: Do You Think It Would More Likely Be An Intamin Or a B&M?

On the line of color, I would love a coaster that looked like this.

As far as paint jobs go, Mantis' is my favorite, by far. I love the use of primaries and how it really doesn't overuse the already overused color of red.

That being said, I think it'd be cool to see the use of secondary colors (purple, green and orange). Would break away from the traditional reds (Iron Dragon, Maverick, Magnum) and blues (Millennium, Corkscrew) that Cedar Point seems to favor.

I see Iron Dragon as being a yellowish orange. Magnum is also a red orange. I would like a coaster that's actually orange which is something we don't have.

Also don't forget about Blue Streak, that's blue... kinda.

Well, on that same page he linked to, it says the name of the ride and what park it is located at. Mystery Mine Ride at Dollywood. If you look at the other pictures not all of the track looks like that. The rest of it is grey.

Yea, it's just painted that way on a few sections of track.

That's really neat how they managed to paint the track like that to look rusted out. I'm with you guys though on actual orange track. Seeing B&M return to the park with something quite original would be very impressive....Personally I really want to see a GCI with flyers or a Gravity Group with timberliners if we were to get a woodie at some point...Vekoma during IAAPA said they had some new ideas they couldn't unveil...if we were part of those ideas I'd be extremely excited...Not being able to see Arrow produce anything anymore and I've lost faith in S&S's take with the company, unless they give the park a high capacity el loco like the one going to Warner Bros. Movie Award in Australia..But idk...I guess I'll settle for the next best thing...A vekoma dutchman or motorbike...

I understand that we all say cedar point is NOT runing out room to build. But seriously where in the hell woud they put another top of the line roller coaster?

I frankly do believe that they've really run out of room this time. There's really no undeveloped or un-utilized land left. CP seems to be entering an era where new attractions will replace old attractions, rather than new rides being built on new land. The question is which rides will be taken out and what they'll be replaced with.

The most obvious place, due to rumors and speculation over the last couple of years, would be in the pseudo-midway by Blue Streak. If the park removes/relocates Calypso and Turnpike Cars, a rather sizable area would be opened up for a new addition(s). The same holds true for many locations on the peninsula.

One thing to keep in mind is that CP is at or near its ride limit, so far as being able to maintain the attractions goes. It's possible that with an increase in maintenance staff, the park could safely operate and maintain more rides, though there's no reason to expect an increase in maintenance staff. As such, any major new installation would likely come at the expense of an older attraction, ideally beginning with those attractions that carry a high maintenance cost-to-ridership ratio.

I think its interesting how everyone thinks that we can't get another large-scale coaster because we're running out of room. Roller coasters, especially the ones made out of the malleable metal stuff, are easily shaped and warped to fit into unique places. I'd love to see something similar as the unique layout of SkyRush as Hersheypark, especially seeing as that is a coaster that interacts with another coaster (Mean Streak anyone?)

On the other hand, I think DJ is right. Something we never consider is maintenance issues, and CP has a whole lot of them, as many of you already know. I'm not entirely sure if this is true, but I heard that CP's maintenance staff hasn't been expanded since the arrival of MF, possibly even before that. They're going by the business model of trying to do more with less people, increasing productivity, if you will. However this can only last for so long, and I know that CP is reaching that point where things can no longer function at their intended level.

The point is this: there are much bigger issues at hand here when building a new coaster other than space. Start thinking long-term investment, staffing issues, whether or not a new coaster would make an impact on attendance for years to come, etc.

I think only major coasters would increase attendance. I've had no desire to go to Canada's Wonderland, but now I really want to go there to ride Leviathan. If they were to just get something smaller I would probably still have no desire to go there.

Certain coasters/rides increase attendance for certain groups of people. Shoot the Rapids was intended to increase attendance of families, while Skyhawk and maXair are meant to increase attendance for thrillseekers/teenagers. The Planet Snoopy/Camp Snoopy expansion was intended to increase attendance of families with small children. Dinosaurs Alive can also be considered an attraction aimed at familes with children (boys, most likely), albeit not the best option for everyone, but there's a reason for it.

Everyone attraction added can be argued to have been aimed at increasing attendance, or just making sure attendance doesn't decrease.

Back to the maintenance issue - Cedar Fair also just got rid of a CEO who notoriously undervalued the human resource.

There's nothing to say that Ouimet won't allow parks (Cedar Point into particular) to increase their maintenance budget to be able to cover not just the existing rides but new ones as well.
