Cedar Point's Next Coaster: Do You Think It Would More Likely Be An Intamin Or a B&M?

Even though I love Cedar Point, I am not able to say that maintaining things is the strong suit of the park. That's what makes me fearful of the future.

With their track record of upkeeping attractions (Millennium's tunnel and lift hill support lights, Power Tower's top support lights, everything about Disaster Transport,) things could turn out really bad...

Your right Nickster. I have missed the lights on Millennium Force the most! I hope with the paint job that they're doing this off-season that they do something about the lights that was popular during the early 2000s. It's hard to say that things are going to get bad considering that Matthew O. hasn't officially stepped into the CEO seat yet. I'm sure with the amount of debt they owe, Cedar Fair probably had to make cuts somewhere. Unfortunately it's been with Millennium Force, Power Tower, and Disaster Transport. I'm happy though that Millennium Force is getting a much needed paint job. :)

I almost forgot that Power Tower's entire structure used to change colors - it was so long ago (like sometime around when Dragster opened was the last time I recall seeing that feature working). I always thought it looked neat. Then there's Millennium of course, which looked even better at night back in the day. Besides the high cost, I don't see why they couldn't invest in some of the new high power LED spotlights, like the ones on Windseeker's tower.

I think Kings Island installed new ones on the Eiffel Tower just a couple years ago to go with their starlight experience. They should do the same for Millennium, considering its proximity to the frontier trail. Especially since the starlight experience at Cedar Point has already deteriorated significantly, including Millennium somehow with new lights would be a great effect. I was really impressed with the show they put on with the Eiffel Tower; it really looks good.

I think only major coasters would increase attendance.

As I understand it, major ride installations haven't produced lasting attendance bumps since the 90's. Cedar Point is pretty much a mature park, in terms of attendance growth.

There's nothing to say that Ouimet won't allow parks (Cedar Point into particular) to increase their maintenance budget to be able to cover not just the existing rides but new ones as well.

I agree that Ouimet should (and I hope he will) focus on personnel, but he's still beholden to the same shareholders Kinzel was.

Though in my opinion, if he's as adept as we hope, he'll probably focus what limited resources they have on seasonal personnel, rather than maintenance.

And to bring the discussion around... Part of increasing the quality and availability of seasonal personnel will require investment in employee housing. Building a new employee dorm off the peninsula could open up a lot of room for expansion.

New dorms....haha...funny...have you seen golds and cedars ;P

About the Millennium lights and a LED replacement: LED have an expected life span of 50,000 hours. With about maybe 5 hours of use every night and 150 days per season (give or take) that's 750 hours of use every season. So LEDs can last over 60 years and they also have very little energy consumption.

Sadly, the things that are neglected the most are the things that only us fans notice. Most visitors don't notice the fact that Millennium's supports used to be lit with multi-colored lights, or other such things. But still, it's the simple additions that really makes the park feel even more amazing.

The only problem that people can actually notice that I've heard of is obviously Disaster Transport, and their confusion almost adds to their ride experience, because they simply don't know what to expect.

I heard a rumor that some decent improvements are coming to one of the employee houses. Can't remember what one though.

Lol what...a new fire alarm system that doesn't go off every 10 minutes when someone takes a shower? :P

That would be amazing. I'd take it!

While we are sort of on the subject of the dorms, what are they really like? My uncle worked there probably 20-30 years ago and he said that they are terrible. But then I heard from other people that they aren't good, but not that terrible.

I heard the same thing about Employee Housing. I think I mentioned this before, but he took one round trip around commons and basically called it a s*** hole, which can easily be seen from the road as a guest driving on Cedar Point Drive. I see improvements being made to the dorms/apartments within the next couple of seasons.

Seriously drive by it...see those buildings that are behind the barbed wire fence, looks kinda like a prison...yeah that's where we live hahahah

I didn't have a problem with housing. For people that keep calling it a Nazi camp or what not didn't get out much. There are much worse places to live at like other amusement parks have such as Kings Island and Six Flags Magic Mountain that I have personally seen. Course their not a 5 star place to stay but it gives you cable TV, cable, Shower, Toilets, bed, a little market place, and a microwave. Alot of other parks dont do half of this stuff so its seriously not half as bad everybody thinks it is. Its just what you make it out to be

Too bad Kings Island doesn't have employee housing, so I'm wondering how you "personally" saw their living conditions. Nice try though.

But anyways, I'm not making the living out to be terrible, all I'm saying is that it could use improvements. Maybe some improvements on top of actually keeping your room clean can reduce the probability of getting bed bugs. I swear my room was one of the very few that didn't get bed bugs. Then I went into other people's rooms and figured out why.

They used to have dorms across Great Wold Lodge there Bub. And plus is living styles too. If you kept your room clean, take out the trash, make your bed and wash your sheets maybe 1-2 a month then you wouldnt have any problems.

Many of the problems with the employee dorms at CP have nothing to do with those who occupy them.

Brandon

Doesn't matter what kind of coaster they put in, this board will still be full of complaints.
