The park has a lot of land to build employee housing and offices like P&D off point. The huge field next to Breakers Express I believe is owned by CP, as is the large lot across the street from Castaway Bay.
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
You are correct, the lot next to Breakers Express is owned by the park. The also own the land and two houses that sit next to the EVC building (perfect for HR) across from the softball field on 1st street. The park has plenty of land off point to accommodate all that I mentioned plus more.
I'd keep wardrobe on point just for convenience. Other than that, everything else you mentioned could certainly be better suited off point.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
I use to think that it HAD to be on property for employees to survive but after seeing how other parks operate, especially who I work for now, I am a firm believer that even Wardrobe could be moved off point. The only problem is that it really doesn't take up much land if you are not counting Linen Services, but if moved the building could be turned into offices that need to remain at the park.
I was looking at the size of the plot I laid out and an interesting idea came to mind. What if they used that large area to make a dueling dark ride hybrid type coaster? That way, they could regain the title of most coasters (if they still care to hold it). Here's what I came up with.
- Dueling type coaster.
- The theme could revolve around some kind of "good vs evil" showdown with a family friendly tone. Or some kind of "dueling" showdown. Perhaps revolved around Boneville.
- The ride would somehow involve participation from the riders to determine who comes out on top.
- The ride could start and end inside of an "event house" with a theme applied to it and the whole area.
- The new area would be themed around the ride and have new shops, food stands, games, etc.
I'm trying to draw/render out a general idea of what I think would be neat.

Planning & Design is plenty big enough to house a dark ride. It would be nice if everything in that backstage area was moved so you could just connect the Gemini midway with the Mean Streak Plaza. Turning P&D into a dark ride would drive traffic back to Mean Streak and open up much more land to add a few other small rides. The access path from just to the right of Mean Streaks entrance already follows the route I am taking about to the bathrooms by Gemini.
I actually forgot to include that. A path connecting that area by Mean Streak's entrance would work nicely. Here's a general idea of what I imagine.

Hi, I'm new to the board, so bare with me if this question has already been answered. As far as making room for ew rides, attactions, etc., I know that CP is an historical landmark. I also think (though I'm not quite sure) that it may even had some protected wetland areas or something. In fact, I remember seeing a CP film where someone said that for every tree they tear down, they must replant one somewhere else. Given all these factors, wouldn't that truly limit where CP can expand or move attractions? ( I wasn't sure if the on-site dorms would fall into this category.)
About the only thing that is protected that has any legal clout behind it is the wetlands. The Breakers was on the list of Historical buildings, but it was removed when they tore down the employee wing. They have plenty of room, as has been discussed there are depts. on site that can be moved off the point freeing up acreage if the need arises. Frankly I don't see it anywhere in the near future, as the era of adding a mega ride every other year is over.

I love that idea. I've always thought its weird how Mean Streak is the only thing on that side of the tracks. I also like a pathway by Gemini, that would really open up the area and bring traffic to the area.

^^I just left it as an unused area. The question mark is there because I cant think of anything that could go there. It's definitely a large enough area where something could go but I guess that doesn't necessarily mean something HAS to go there.

After hearing what Matt Ouimet said today, it looks like that spot by Mean Streak will have to wait till 2017 ;).

^He said when he spoke to the Erie County Chamber of Commerce that Cedar Fair's capital expenditures will be $25 million in 2013. He also stated how they want to free up the beach area. Something like that along those lines, there is a link somewhere about it. So, we might be looking at a future attraction or something near the beach as it sounds.
EDIT: Link here

I'm calling it now. The building around Disaster Transport will come down but the coaster will stay. A new coaster will snake its way around Avalanche Run. :)
I didn't say a B&M, just a coaster. I am keeping the manufacture of what I think will be built to myself for now.
So putting the pieces together so far, we most likely have a $25 million coaster for 2013 somewhere around the beach toward the front of the park, with Disaster Transport's future in jeopardy.
I recall Jeff said this addition is going to silence the whining, so I'd assume this is a high-thrill coaster, considering the Point Buzz user base.
As for answering the thread title, the $25 million figure seems very Intaminish. Wasn't that the cost of Millenium Force, Top Thrill Dragster, and Intimidator 305? ;)
