Cedar Point Announces New Water Ride for 2010 Season

Any update on the height restriction? I've checked Cedar Point's website and it's still not listed. I assume they already have a height restriction ready to go, but are waiting to do some final testing just to make sure.

^^I apologize to the both of you. I forgot the ;). Just trying (and failing) to prove a point that the odds of getting hurt on a ride, for whatever reason, are slim to none. (Son of Beast excluded.) :)

It was mentioned at one of the off season events (Tony at the ACE Holiday Party I believe) that Sandor says he has to ride it before making a height restriction.

^haha, I had to look that up too. His name is Sandor Kernacs. He is the President of IntaRide (company that is building STR) and typically rides all the new rides before they are open to the public. For example, according to an old thread on here, he rode Maverick WITH the heartline roll and recommended that it be taken out.

Thanks RideWarrior. Haha I guess now I know his first name.

He took it away from all of us Zach......all of us.;)

In reality though, no matter how badly I wanted to ride with it there, it was for the greater good that it was taken out due to the stress and whatnot.

without a roof , is it really a tunnel?

The more interesting question is... what are they hiding behind that tarp?

:)

Brandon

I'm kinda diggin the "old west" Tyvek look...

Maybe the tarp is actually part of the 'themeing'. As you make your way through the open roofed, sunlit tunnel you make your way toward the extreme end of the tunnel ... a blue tarp! Maybe it is supposed to represent something ... a waterfall perhaps and they just didn't want to spend money installing a real one.

It would be cool if they used the idea used in many other dark areas in rides. They create a fog screen and project an image onto it.

Let's hope during the time that they have to test it, old Sandor has to ride it with the temps in the 40's! Who is gonna ride STR opening day if it is in the 50's? If they can honestly shut the water off to a point of a few splashes like WWL, then i would do it.

So... if Sandor is the one who personally decides the ride height requirements, would he be personally responsible if a height-related accident occurred on the ride?

I don't doubt Jason's account of the ACE comments, but the "process" of having Sandor ride it to determine ride height sounds... dangerously subjective.

I would think they would need pressure sensitive crash test dummies or the likes to determine where areas will be affected by impact/turns/etc. Not some guy saying he felt a little more pressure on his abdomen on the 2nd splash so it obviously needs to be 46".

I'm going to raise my guess and say I think the height requirement will be 46-48". Actually seeing the ride now, it's really not much different than SRF in terms of what physical or mature requirements it would take to survive the ride, so I can't see the height requirement being drastically different.

The restraints on Shoot the Rapids are much different than those on SRF, which I'd think would be a more important factor than the two rides' layout similarities.

How are they both "much" different? They are both lap restraints.

And that's where any similarities end, I think. SRF's, if memory serves, restraints are one-per-row, and are simple lap bars. Shoot the Rapids, by contrast, are individual over-the-shoulder lap bars.

On SRF, if you're sitting with an "exceptional" guest, you're not going to be very secure, at least compared to riding alongside a similar guest on StR.

Interesting, I hope you're right. It'd be nice to see the requirement come in closer to 40ish.

Besides, I don't want people harping that the 2011/2012 attraction needs to be a kid friendly one ;)

My "guess" would be that Intamin already has a height in mind. But, maybe don't want to commit to it until the test rides. Just look at what happened with Maverick. It was listed as 48" and ended up being 52".
