Cedar Fair New Trademark

Which is where my train of thought was headed. Clearly Thunder Mountain is more aggressive. In fact, I forgot how much more aggressive it is until our recent trip. What I'm not saying is that Cedar Point should just turn back the clock and say Mine Ride should have a height limit of 40"; perhaps for that ride that would be entirely unsafe (I don't know).

However, it seems at least plausible that instead of spiking the height requirements on rides like Mine Ride and Iron Dragon, the park could instead figure out a way to have trains that could accommodate younger passengers. Then we could start calling Mine Ride a family ride again.

Disney has apparently placed an emphasis on designing rides that are both safe and thrilling for all ages. I'm hopeful that Cedar Point has started to at least get that important part of the equation for future installations.

They certainly have a choice of whether or not to upgrade the cars/seats/restraints on both Iron Dragon and Mine Ride. Obviously they have not chosen to do so yet.

Perhaps that decision is not born of whether to spend money or not, but rather, to spend money or not on things that may not be around much longer. Why sink many thousands into upgrading something that is on the chopping block. I love the Mine Ride as much as anyone, and really don't care about ID, but both are mediocre rides that are taking up a lot of space in some beautiful areas of the park.

Perhaps I was originally referring to rides like Iron Dragon and CCMR as "family" rides due to them being much milder rides than most of the current CP coaster line up. People who do not like the more aggressive coasters can still enjoy rides like these. If CP was to replace them, I would hope it would be with something that a broad range of people could ride - not another record breaking coaster...

There's a difference between what a broad range of people could ride, and what they would ride.

honestly if they took iron dragon out id be pretty upset. Its an endangered type of coaster. i know theres 2 in ohio, but since big bad wolf was taken out I somehow connect my experience from when i was little on btw to iron dragon. I understand it's a stretch but i wouldn't skip riding it

I too am all for keeping Iron Dragon around. Despite what others might think, I still find its ending to be mildly thrilling. I don't exactly feel the same way about CCMR. I see it as expendable, but I also don't know of anything that I really think should take its place. I would like to see Iron Dragon given a striking new paint scheme. There is too much red and orange in that area of the park.

I would be upset if the removed the Iron Dragon. It's a good little ride. It's a really great "first real roller coaster" for younger riders. Same with the Blue Streak.

CCMR? That thing's a total waste of time.

For where it is located, CCMR doesn't even seem that aesthetically pleasing either. That is kind of crazy to me because it is one of the most beautiful areas of the park.

I disagree. I think CCMR is much more exciting that ID.

The Cedar Creek Mine Ride fills a need within the coaster line up, but it sounds like the target audience is somewhat restricted by the height requirement. Cedar Point could modify the restraints so that the requirement could be reduced and potentially increase its appeal, but would the investment be worth it? That's a question that only the folks at the park can answer.

The CCMR has served the park well over the past 46 years but I wouldn't be at all surprised if it were removed to make way for something else. That area has a lot of potential.

From what Jeff said, the restraints on BTMRR seem much like the restraints on Gemini and Magnum, even though the Disney ride is a Vekoma ride if I'm not mistaken. Could be a reason for the rumers a couple years ago of testing Gemini trains on CCMR. I could see using the Gemini chassis (for the u-shaped restraints) with a more mine train like body to possibly lower the height requirement a bit.

After doing much research on the subject, I think it is safe to say that VALRAVN is indeed GateKeeper's evil cousin. For that it should be a very agreesive thrillride/coaster.

Not that I completely trust it, Pete, but according to Wiki the Florida version is an Arrow while the Paris version is a Vekoma (no info about the manufacturer on RCDB).

Regardless, Mine Ride still serves a great purpose as a starter coaster not to mention a thematic/scenic cornerstone to the Frontier part of the park. It is just a shame that while it is a great starter coaster for kids of a certain height, it could be a a great family coaster at the same time.

It's my understanding that Arrow is the original manufacturer of the BTMR trains in Florida.

Wow, that article seems to know a lot of facts on this new ride.

-Dive Coaster

-223 feet tall

-Tunnel after drop

-The ride's total length would be 3,625 feet

-Speeds up to 80 MPH

Yeah most of those stats were leaked with the original memo back in January. They sound pretty legit though. 223 feet tall and 80 mph would make it the tallest and fastest dive coaster in the world. A dive coaster hasn't been built in North America since 2007, which means it is a fairly fresh type of coaster (since most of Cedar Point's visitors probably won't have been to Busch Gardens).

I see so much potential for this "dive coaster." I hope it happens.

It's fun to watch change happen.

When Maverick arrived, I recall a thread around here entitled, "Intamin Playground", or something along those lines. Point being, in the 1980's the park was an Arrow-dominated park, with Gemini, White Water Landing, Mine Ride, Corkscrew, and Magnum being highlights.

Intamin's legacy is obvious, starting with MF, followed by WT and Maverick, and of course being capped off with STR. It seemed as if Cedar Point and Intamin were wed-locked until the debacle that is Shoot the Rapids happened.

Divorce.

If (and it's a big if) the dive coaster does indeed come to fruition, Cedar Point becomes a park with arguably the best B & M lineup, including the new Rougarou, Gatekeeper, Raptor, and the raven that eat's children's hearts.

Just a passing thought.
