Cedar Fair New Trademark

Cedar Point just trademarked Valravn. It translated to a dutch raven. People think this will be the new dive coaster that has already begun land clearing.http://tmsearch.uspto.gov/bin/showfield?f=doc&state=4803:znn82n.2.1

Haha... I was just about to post this. With all the merchandise the trademark covers it seems to me that this is for a major ride/coaster. The Danish mythology for Valravn fits well with the creepy theme of Rougarou(and the funky pronunciations and spellings). The mythology is verrry dark and scary. The name would fit well with a dive coaster or a Halloweekends attraction so I really have no idea what it could be for. To me it just doesn't seem like they could make a whole story for a dark ride out of this even though it would fit. They would have to make the mythology kid friendly, which it is not, whereas for a coaster they could just name it and add some haunted themeing like King's Island did with Banshee which I thought was done well.
I really like the name though.

Fascinating, I wonder how it's pronounced. The internets is not being helpful, providing a number of possibilities:

It's an awesome name for a coaster/ride and I'm all for it. It's a name that, imo, would compliment Raptor (both being related to birds) while still being very distinguishable.
My hope is that, if this does turn out to be for CP, the folklore won't cause a public outcry like it did for Mantis/Banshee.

I re read the trademark after creating this and it is for Cedar Point. It says, cedar point park llc.

The English words may mostly be "used," but starting to rely on non-English words with mystery pronunciation seems like a bad idea.

I like the name. I think it's cool to go with a bird name since it's going to be next to Raptor where all that land is being cleared. For all we know, it may not even be a coaster, it could be a flat or dark ride. I don't see any problem with using non-English words. I like the name for Rougarou.

Some themeing with purple and black track and/or supports would be nice, by the way. Not too many of those colors in the park. I'm tired of all the reds and blues. Just my 2c.

I saw that too but shrugged it off because Cedar Point is the headquarters of Cedar Fair. So I just thought they usually address Cedar Point. Just my thought.

Sorry to double post but I was thinking the exact same thing! I was thinking Purple and silver or black. I've been wanting to see a purple coaster in the park and I think one would look very nice in that cleared land area!

I think using non-English names is creative. Of course not anything extremely hard to pronounce.

I would like to see a purple coaster too, but I really perfer Banshee purple/pink to dark purple.

In Dutch a Valravn (raven of the slain) first appeared in the late 1800's folklore. It's appearance is either that of a raven or a half wolf and half raven hybrid.

In Norse a raven refers to the god Odin. Odin has two supernatural ravens Huginn and Muninn. The ravens fly at dawn and tell Odin all they hear and see.

Just something I came across:

"Valravne are shapeshifters, but only after eating the heart of a child."

Sounds more like a family ride to me.

I really doubt that pronunciation is really going to be an issue. Regardless of the true pronunciation you know people are just gonna call it either "Val-rav'n" or "Val-raven".

That and I'll take mythology-based names any day over genericness like "Firehawk" or "Flight Deck".

I agree. I'm not exactly a fan of names like Rougarou, Chang, Nitro, Kingda Ka, etc. I like thinking outside the box when it comes to nomenclature (if it's done right), but come on...
