Bubbles area 21 and over at Soak City

I visited last Friday was told they were rebuilding a wall that took damage. Anyone aware of estimated time this area will be reopened? Looks pretty neat.

When was this area built? I never noticed this until this season. Looks like a good place to getaway from the younger crowd!

From what I heard last weekend, I think it should be open this week sometime.

It was built a number of years ago, I think the same year they opened the Wave Pool.

its open for business as I'm sitting here but I don't think I've ever seen it this dirty. Bird poop everywhere on the deck and on the bottom of the pool. Clearly hasn't been cleaned in some time.

I think I see Pete across the pool without a beer??

If the guy across the pool doesn't have a beer, I don't think it can be Pete!

Yes, I was there Friday, only had one Long Island though. Had a long day at Put-In-Bay to look forward to on Saturday, wanted to save myself for that! :)

And yes, totally agree with Steve, the pool was disgusting. Never saw a pool so dirty at Cedar Point, they should be embarrassed. They sent someone in with a skimmer, but that will not help the bottom of the pool that needs to be scrubbed clean of all the filth and bird poop. Looks like they just filled the pool without cleaning it from the dirt it collected over the winter. When Bill Spehn was in charge of the water park that never would have happened. Everything was immaculate.

Spehn was great but Soak City was always kept to a high standard because of its manager John Wolshuck. The guy took an immense pride in everything being clean and looking sharp. He encouraged it every day to his staff, always pointing out the little details that less than 1% of guests would see. From what I have seen and heard it sounds like the new guy (some former rides manager) has been dropping the ball. Really a shame because John cared so much for the water park and beach.

In regards to the pool being dirty... John had EVERY pool pressured washed, then scrubbed down with hydrochloric acid, then pressured washed again, or even more if it wasn't to his liking. If that meant staying all night then that is what you would do. If for whatever reason the pool would get filled before he signed off, then you got in with goggles and scrubbed the bottom. If it was a big enough mess, drain the pool and start over.

We decided we wanted to head to a water park yesterday, and gave the 9-year old a choice of either Soak City or WWK. Since we were just at WWK last weekend, she picked Soak City. WWK is much closer, but I was looking forward to being up on the lake and swinging in to support the GKTW riders for a few minutes.

Boy, what a bummer of a day that was.

First, the "good" lazy river was not operating, which was a huge reason she wanted to go there - so we headed to the wave pool. Aside from it being jammed with people taking over the chairs over there, a good number of them were cracked and broken so if you sat on them, you'd fall right through. We wound up taking our towels and things to the sun bathing area over by the other lazy river - which was absolutely disgusting. We decided we'd like to float around, but once we took off, we realized our mistake. Slimy leaves, twigs, and who knows what all over the bottom, and bugs, bugs, bugs. It was the worst I've ever seen it.

Then, another slide complex was closed, so we went to the kids area, only to find all the slides closed off with nets over there.

There was really nothing to do, and what was available was completely filthy, not to mention the inconsistent water temperatures - you'd get used to ice cold, then the next thing was warm. I can only imagine the place is getting a much needed overhaul soon, and that's why they aren't doing much with it.

This sounds disappointing for our visits this summer but also embarrassing for the park. Can you imagine guests who booked the refurbished Breakers coming over to Soak City and seeing that mess? They'll wonder if they poured every last dime into just the hotel and can't staff or keep up with the rest of the park. It's bad enough seeing one half of the golf course looking like a mess, even though it's closed, they should still sweep the leaves and branches off so it gives a decent impression. Hopefully, they'll get it in gear, I don't remember it looking that bad at Soak City last summer.

We noticed how dirty all the water areas appeared for a few days after the May 31st storm, and I just assumed it was too cold to clean the areas that could be seen while walking past to Lighthouse Point. If it's still not up to snuff, that's disgusting.

Temperatures have nothing to do with cleaning the pools or decks. Should be done regardless.

As I stated in another thread, Soak City was a total joke this weekend. No other way to phrase that.

Aside from that I will say that all park employees, including soak city lifeguards, were much more friendly than in years past. This was clearly something that has been focused on in training.

Went up to CP to celebrate husband's birthday. We went to Soak City on Sunday 6/7/15. Got there around 10:45am and the girl scanned our platinums and let us in. I said that I thought it didn't open until 11am but she said if the lifeguards give the ok, then passholders are allowed in at 10:30am. Very surprised at the condition of the park. Bubbles pool was filthy. Chairs were dirty. Renegade River, Lazy River and a cluster of waterslides were closed, we heard someone say it was because of a shortage of lifeguards, whether that is true, I do not know. We just hung in the wavepool, which was never fully open. I understand the bug invasion and pollen are uncontrollable, however filthy, dirty conditions were never a problem. We are returning in late July and I hope we see great improvement.

Does anyone know if all the college students are out for the summer yet? Is school still in session for most of their incoming staff?

I don't think the Mayflies have come yet, have they?

Otherwise, this is shameful!

And I thought Wildwater Kingdom was seriously understaffed and under-equipped, at least it wasn't filthy.

Maybe I ought to give them a call, find out if they're going to have it clean by the weekend.

Mayflies have invaded the park in a pretty big way as of last weekend. I can definitely see a shortage of lifeguards as a problem there. I know where I work we need to hire between 50-60 guards for the summer and it's been a challenge to say the least. However, no excuse for pools, decks and chairs to be dirty. Not sure who the Soak City manager is (do they even have one), but they need to get out and walk the water park.

Last weekend (6/5-7) muffleheads were the problem not mayflies. Mayflies have thin torsos and large fairy-like wings.

A shortage of lifeguards should not be a cause for the water park to be filthy. The start of the summer season at Soak City is always understaffed but cleanliness never suffered in the past. Turns out the manager of Soak City is a guy I use to work with. He came from the rides department with no experience in water parks at all. From what is being said here, it definitely shows.

IIRC, Brian Short is the manager of Soak City. He used to be the area 2 manager in rides. I'm not sure if he is aware of the issues, but I hope it gets resolved quick. I haven't witnessed the current state of SC, but these reviews make me sad to hear about the neglect of the water park.

99er's avatar

You are correct. And he should most definitely be aware of the cleanliness of his water park. All he has to do is walk through it once and with a good eye be able to spot everything.

Parts of Soak City have been closed both of my warm visits this year. I don't remember them just closing slides and the action river in years past, whether it be from a shortage of life guards or whatever. But specifically thinking of those that dedicated a day to Soak City and purchased a full-price ticket, it doesn't seem right.

99er's avatar

That is a bit odd. In all my years at the park I don't ever remember them closing Renegade River due to staffing. Occasionally they will close some of the smaller slides (like those on Splash Zone) and have one lifeguard rotate between a couple different slides as guests want to ride them. But never the bigger, marquee slides and rivers.
