Going down the hills is the "rapids" part. It is plenty fast down the hills.
The rapids are at the bottom of the second drop, at least when I'm spieling :)
Is it really that important for each ride's name to be scientifically, grammatically, and descriptively correct?
No wonder you guys expect some complex, intricate backstory for every new attraction.
I dunno, name is pretty important. I mean, Shoot the Rapids is alright mostly because it has a history at the park. You really don't want a Pepsi Max: Big One or a Flight Deck.

Plot twist: We are getting a Flying Dive Coaster. The theme is a Valravn that is diving to catch something but it's still flying too. Obviously won't happen but it'd be cool
I'm from Kansas
A flying dive coaster. I think you're onto something because that just sounds incredibly fun!

What If they came out with a Dive - Giga Coaster? One that actually goes 90 degrees down. That would be cool right?
Hopefully there is some twist to the dive coaster for CP- the ones I've been on are pretty tame and less thrilling then Gatekeeper.
It'd be sad if the next big coaster is less thrilling than Gatekeeper, but maybe they want it that way for more family friendliness.
New for 2024- Wicked Twister Plus
I thought the same thing at first, but the leaked memo did say it would have 4 inversions. That's 2 more than any existing dive coaster. Also, the 2 dive coasters that debuted this year at Efteling and Gardaland featured 2 inversions that had never been on dive coasters (zero-g roll and a slow heartline roll).
There really haven't been that many built, so I can kinda see how Cedar Point would feel than can expand on the design.

I agree Chuck. Cedar Point did the same thing with GateKeeper. There weren't too many winged riders at the time and Cedar Point decided to make a multi-record breaking roller coaster out of it.

I hope this coaster is good. Never been on a dive coaster but watched a POV of Shekira or whatever it's called and it looked rather boring besides the drop. Hope CP has a better layout.
I've been on Griffon, and boring was the last thing that came to my mind. If one walks into it expecting a MF or i305 experience then of course they would be disappointed. I don't understand why it seems all people look for in a coaster is intensity. I could not care less about intensity. That's why Gatekeeper is my number 5 coaster. Seems like I'm the only one though.

CP Top 5- 1)MF 2) Maverick 3) Gatekeeper 4) Top Thrill Dragster 5) Raptor
For those of you who have never been on a dive coaster, they are excellent. Griffon is the smoothest roller coaster I've ever been on and the experience is very different. I really think this would be a great addition to the park and would not disappoint many people.
What excites me the most about this potential coaster is just how much room they have to work with and I think a coaster would look really nice in that section of the park.

Maverick is certianly a horse. You've got the horse in the logo, and Maverick is the "dark horse" of CP's coaster collection. Also, the turns in the beginning feel like a horse changing direction and leaping over something, when your butt leaves the saddle so to speak.
A Maverick is an animal that isn't branded, mostly used for cattle, but also including other animals such as horses. This quote reveals why they chose Maverick as the name
Cedar Point's Bryan Edwards says that the park chose the name more to invoke its meaning of non-conformity. "After all of our record-breaking coasters, we wanted to confound expectations with Maverick," he says. "Instead of going higher up, we purposely brought this coaster down to earth. But that doesn't mean it's not capable of providing great fun."
Also the names of the trains come from characters of the 1950s-60s TV show Maverick which was about traveling poker players in the wild west.
Shoot the Rapids is being relocated to the former GTT and Dogem area and Maverick is being renamed Cowboy Coaster.
