...what kind of family ride would you suggest?
I think there could be at least 2 dark rides, for starters. Live, family-oriented entertainment should be another area of focus (and guess what just got removed from CP recently? hint: not a coaster). Beyond that? Honestly, I don't really know. The vast majority of my park time is spent at CP, so I'm not familiar with the attractions that Disney World offers, for example. Simply trying to copy what they do, on a smaller scale, might be a good place to start.
Building a ride that appeals to 5 year olds is tricky business--by the time they are 7 or 8 they want to go on the big rides.
Are you implying that people are going to stop making babies?
The difference is you want something for a five year old and I would argue that something for 7 year olds & up qualifies as a "family" ride.
You'd probably feel differently if your family included children both younger and older than 7. And I'd argue there are a lot of people who have such a family.

I consider this ride a replacement for Snake River Falls. Just my guess. Or else this makes no sense.
There has been talk that the mine road is getting old, aka time to be replaced. So getting rid of the mine ride and SRF for a new coaster in that area say down in 2011 or 2012?
Why do they need to replace SRF? Is there some Ohio law that prevents the park from having 3 water rides?
Brandon
The only similarities I see between SRF and STR are the height and that they both use water.
That would be like saying Mantis was a replacement for Raptor. Or Iron Dragon a replacement for Corkscrew.
The two rides are going to be completely different experiences and catering to two different crowds.
And about the statement "You WILL get wet". If I stand in front of a sprinkler or a fire hose for 5 seconds, I will get wet. But they aren't the same kind of wet. Heck, even on WWL I did get wet. So I'll wait until the ride is built and operating to determine if STRs "wet" is too wet for me.

I agree, besides, I can think of a few rides I would rather see removed instead of SRF.
Given the location (and SRF's age/condition), I would think if Shoot the Rapids were intended to truly replace SRF, they would have done so from the start.
Brandon
I don't think they should get rid of SRF. I do think if they were going to remove it, they would hesitate to have removed it right away, because dropping Demon Drop and Snake River Falls together would have been bad PR.
I can see STR boosting ridership on SRF, actually. With three water rides now in the same area, it makes a little more sense to rent a locker for your cell phone and wallet, and hit the water rides. Especially if STR gets you decently wet, why not go on Thunder Canyon or SRF after that?
I'll definitely concede, however, that aside from the tidal splash at the end, SRF doesn't really offer much that STR won't also offer, so I can see its future being somewhat limited.
The path you tread is narrow, and the drop is sheer and very high.
It's all relative. If they were to rip it out and put in a coaster I would be happy. If they were to rip it out and put in a teletubby train DJ would be happy. Just depends what they put in its place. If they go and rip it out and put in a hot dog stand I think most people would be upset. Now, if that hot dog stand sold beer maybe we'd have a different story :) (so far as I know there are only two places in the park that do).

That's a good point. I know that whenever we decide to hit the water rides, we make it a point to get as many rides as we can. Then we head to Soak City.

Have you seen many enthusiasts? This would be #2 on their list, beaten only by a 500 foot megalooping woodie.

Red Garter, Chuck Wagon, Game Day Grille, Hofbrau House (if its still open and under whatever name it is now). And I think that's it. So the total is 3 (maybe 4).

I swear, the last time I was there people kept pointing me up front to a place by the carousel (I'm not sure of the name off of the top of my head). On my walk back to catch up with my group at Dragster, at least 6 people stopped me and asked where I got the beer.
While we're on the subject, can you bring beer into the picnic area outside of the park? I checked the FAQ and see where you can bring a cooler and grill, but nothing about alcohol.
Alcohol is served at Hurricane Hannah's, Gameday Grill, Red Garter Saloon, The Palace (Last Chance Saloon), and the Joe Cool Cafe (surprisingly). Link to CP's alcohol policy and locations.

Joe Cool? Interesting choice. Makes sense though. If you're taking your kids in there, you're going to need a drink.

Park policy aside, I've never had a problem knocking back a beer or two at that shelter by the front gate. In the summer of 2004, we attached a cooler to one of the tables with a bike chain, got our hands stamped, and considerably cut down on our beer budget that day. As with everything, your mileage may vary and my experience isn't an endorsement.
Also, that policy says nothing about taking beer in the lines with you. Is there a definitive answer on this? I've always just walked right in with one, planning to feign ignorance if anyone said anything, but no one ever has. Not that I'm really going to alter my behavior one way or another, but I'd be curious to know.

As of 2 years ago, you could take beer in line with you. If I am correct, that rule changed in 2008 (before that you technically could not).
Promoter of fog.
Having a beer in line is fine aslong as the beer was purchased within the park. Outside alcohol is not allowed on Cedar Point property and alochol purchased within CP cannot leave. I have seen many people have beer in line and not get anything said to them asuming it is limited. I have seen rude and obnoxious guest removed from line for being intoxicated.

The short answer to the beer in the picnic shelters question is no. Beer served in the park is not permitted past the exit gates. There are signs at each exit stating this.
How convenient is it to just run down the road to famous daves or some place with a full bar for lunch and come back?
I've always eaten in the park or in the shelters, so it takes like 15-25 mins. max. It would be nice to grab a bloody mary once and awhile. Not if it means killing 90 mins. though.
