Maybe if they do install that reverse freefall it will make it more than two thirds of the way up! =)
Linear Synchronous Motor (IIRC). It's kind of like a LIM, except... more powerful? For some reason, I remember reading something about them using cylindrical magnets as opposed to LIM's horizontal ones... although that would be a bit oxymoronical, eh.
It's what the Superman uses (the one that goes really high and fast). They have to fire in quick succesion with precision timing (thus, 'synchronous'), which caused the release date for Superman to get pushed back months and months. It also uses an unbelievable amount of electricity, I read that they had to get a specially made giant cable coming straight from the power grid to the ride, the park's overall power wasn't enough.

TTDboy11, just because it wasn't down when you were there, doesn't mean it wasn't down. And only a couple rides are opened for Joe Cool. Raptor, MF, TTD, and I'm not sure what else.

To add to GeeForce's LSM difficulties:
Another problem with Superman's LSM's was the "skin effect", where the power was so strong, the wattage only went on the surface of the motors (the "skin"), and couldn't be delivered to the actual motors. But, I have a question: About how long did that delay the opening?

That is the biggest mess of a roller coaster I've ever seen. I can't imagine assembling one of those.
We'll miss you MrScott and Pete
That would be a pain to assemble. And isn't it the exact same layout as Poltergeist?

I couldn't find a real good picture of the ride. But thats what I got.
As found on RCDB.COM "LSM (Linear Synchronous Motor) is a form of electro-magnetic propulsion. They replace a traditional lift hill and do not contain any moving parts. Typically LSM systems launch the roller coaster from the station extremely quickly." Yeah not very detailed. And it says the same thing for LIM too.
"Ive got the need, the need for speed!"
Poltergeist, Joker's Jinx and Flight of Fear are the same rides, with FoF being enclosed. A ride of that type doesn't take up much of a footprint and would be a quick way to get some more loops in the park. I still think a nice woody by GCI would work wonders for the frontier area though.

Those three coasters look ugly to me. I don't like coasters all bunched up like that, with the exception of and Wild Cat design. I think coasters look better spread out.

I guess my next question is, could LIMs be used in lieu of a chain or cable on a lift hill? No moving parts to maintain, and they can go as fast or as slow as you want them to (ex. the TTA at Magic Kingdom or the Bullet Train in Japan). The biggest question would be what kind of incline would be possible with a LIM lift? Would we be able to get a 45 degree lift like on Millenium or would we be looking at something flatter than Magnum?

JuggaLotus I was wondering the same thing. I was picturing something like a launch halfway or more up the lifthilll, where the train could then be "caught"(like a boomerang coaster) and towed up the rest of the way by a traditional chainlift. That way might save some time and the incline could be much steeper than 45 degrees.

I know there are many out there but those boomerang coasters are great. That is one of the very few coasters that I get off and feel disoriented. In fact it is in my top 5 overall for all parks.

101 on Magnum and counting...
Hmm... I wouldn't mind a Boomerang at Cedar Point. I've ridden The Bat at Canada's Wonderland a few times and it is quite a decent ride.

California Screamin' (Intamin looper) uses LIM's on it's lift hills instead of chains. It's a pretty slow controlled ascent too. Although it had nothing to do with its LIM's, a couple trains collided the other day...
It's lift hills seem like the same pitch as your average lift. I would assume the power draw necessary would get exponentially higher as you increase the pitch though.

OMG the boomerang rides SUCK!!! why would anyone want one of those?? there's one at geauga lake. that's plenty. :)
I don't think a boomerang would fit in good at the Point. I just got back from PKI yesterday and rode Face/Off, which is a Vekoma "Invertigo". Not only did the thing have HORRIBLE capacity, but the ride itself was nothing out of this world.
Cedar Point rocks my socks.
