I'm still with ya Shawn, I just want to throw something on for a sec on the matter of lift hill propulsion....
What if a type of lift could be made that uses a similar system as Power Tower? In that it uses air.
The lift could be very inclined (like near or at 90°) and the air could push/pull (however you look at it) the train up it.
It's just an idea..... *** Edited 8/2/2005 4:53:52 AM UTC by TTD 120mph***

Floorless is what I want the most. A nice new B&M product is what we need. I'm very for a floorless and very against a flyer.
We'll miss you MrScott and Pete
I'd love for cp to get a ride like poltergeist.... never rode one before but they looks fun an dont take up much spaceu could throw one of those in in a number of places in cp
CP could make a really unique boomerang type coaster. It seems all the ones around are the same.

If it was a flyer with a 90° incline then you would nearly be in a sitting postion for the lift... that would work out well.
Hey guys I'm sure whatever Cedar Point gets for a new ride you'll all love it. The park hasn't dissapointed me with any of their newer rides and I'm sure it's the same for all of you on here. Whatever Cedar Point gets I'm sure will be awesome!!! They have the money for it.
August 12th, 2005- Eminem and Lil Jon concert at Comerica Park.....I was right at the stage! 50 Cent sprayed water on me, Eminem was an inch away from touching me, and when the concert was over I walked outside and met Lil Jon's Eastside Boyz!
I think MIA-Mike's brings up a good point about being in the sitting position if there was a vertical lift hill. That wouldn't be uncomfortable, and it would save a lot of space. I wonder if would cause too much tension for the lift chain though.
The rides Cedar Point installs are generally great, but what they do with the landscape of the area where said ride goes leaves something to be desired. I'm not a big fan of the concrete jungle they replace the trees with. This is probably most apparent with the area Dragster now resides in. Prior to its installation, several of us voiced our concern with how they could ruin that section of the park, and unfortunately we were right to worry.

Im Sure after Cedar Point took out those trees, they probably planted new ones near Top Thrill Dragster, but I agree with CP Bound. Iron Dragon seems boring now without the trees. It's still a fun ride however.
I don't think that a 90 degree lift hill would be much fun, straight up then straight down? Can anyone say Dragster?
We'll miss you MrScott and Pete
Well if you have a fast elevator lift hill like Millennium Force that goes about 15 mph or faster it won't be so bad. It would look kinda funny. I would rather go with a traditional chain lift.
The problem isn't the time to get to the top of the hill, it's the space the hill would take up.

It would be crazy uncomfortable going straight up and not being a flying coaster. Millennium Force's hill feels uncomfortable and we're talking about something twice as steep. Plus you couldn't even look down without straining your neck and looking behind you.
Now a flyer that big would take up a LOT of room or be very uncomfortable as well. Not so much on the lift hill, but during the ride itself. You would have to make all of the inclines very gradual; I've heard that it feels like your about to explode on the pretzel loop on S:UF. Now taking any kind of element at 100+mph would kill without making a HUGE footprint.
No wait. We are talking about a 500 ft+ coaster right?

How do you figure the 45 degree angle of MF's lift is uncomfortable? If you're sitting in your seat properly it's the same as if you were in a recliner.
I sure wasn't talking about a 500 foot flyer...

I think we can forget any idea about a 500 foot flyer....it's just ridiculous. :)
If the next coaster is a 500 footer, I think Cedar Point will go with a design that is affective and can handle the height and the speed.
I would think that the coaster would have a steep lift hill (to save room), a layout (no 50 second ride), short light-weight trains (like Dragsters, just with 1 or 2 more cars), and either a cable lift or something else (like air:)).
If we're going to talk about a 500 footer, we should focus on what kind of lift the coaster would have and where it would go. But if were going to talk about a B&M coaster, then we should just focus on where it would go. We already have some ideas, so keep going!

Has anyone addressed the SUPPORTS that would be needed for this kind of structure? I believe Intamin said that the truss system they set up for MF could exceed 700 feet, but imagine the footprint for it. MF is already massive.
I've been saying it since day one; I don't think 500 feet is in the near future for more reasons that I care to reiterate. *** Edited 8/2/2005 6:09:06 PM UTC by Grovite18***
Man, I can't imagine they would want the hassles with a floorless (Maint is maxed out as it is), but I'm hearing from several sources now that is will be a floorless type coaster in FTT for 2006. I blew it off at first, and my schedule has been so hectic I havn't really had time to dig into this (or much of anything for that matter). But the more I hear, the more it points to a floorless.

"Bring back the Penguins!"
If so, I hope they put the jojo in there. I haven't been to Dorney to ride Hydra, but from what I've heard, the Jojo provides some sweet sensations.
Goodbye MrScott
John
It seems like it would since we are used to barrel rolls at high speeds "floating" through one would be quite interesting. I would love to go to Dorney but my family sucks!
"Ive got the need, the need for speed!"
Yes, the lift hill footprint (and other hills for that matter) would be incredibly massive for a 500 footer, narrowing possible locations where it could be built. Most likely the only place where something that huge could be built would be on the beach or somewhere along the exterior of the park. In my opinion, that would be a bad idea, and any argument they previously gave about having the record not being about ego would be thrown out the window.
It's funny how people's sources (including mine) are telling us all contradictory truths. Usually before a coaster is built at CP, as the season goes on people start hearing more and more of the same rumors of what's going in next. This year as the summer goes on, rumors are getting more and more "out there."
This leads me to believe that there may not be a coaster for next year. Flat ride? Sure. Coaster? It's anybody's guess.
