Any news on Skyscraper?

^^But wouldn't riding at night be grounds for someone *potentially* saying it was boring??

I just heard from my employee friend today that maintenance was at skyscraper and they said it was unsafe to ride. She didn't say what reason, but I hope this doesn't lead to anything big with skyscraper.

Is that really maintenance's call? I'm not questioning what you're saying, but can they go to a ride and close it because it's unsafe or would that be more of the Department of Agriculture's call? Either way I rode it Sunday and I'm still here to talk about it so I guess it must be somewhat safe.

I have no idea either..:) But that's what my friend said, and she was at the park. I wonder myself where she hears it from, and when i rode it, it looked pretty safe to me.

Anyone see/take any videos of it yet? I will be driving out there on sunday, will be hitting the park mon-wed. Hope i will be able to ride it while im there.

I think your employee friend should keep to herself unless she knows what she's talking about. I talk to maintenance every day about the ride and they've never said anything of the sort. They say I'm crazy for riding it, but only because they're too scared to do it themselves :-D. The ride is perfectly safe, and you have a crew running the ride that is more than competent to do so. Besides, would a ride that was too unsafe to ride ever pass inspection by the state? Would Cedar Point ever build a ride that was too unsafe to ride? This isn't Six Flags.

RaceRinger, I understand what you are saying and I believe you. But my friend just hears what people say from around the park and believes it like it's true, all the time. Then she tells me like I should believe it also. Not just about skyscraper, but any other rumor about the park. .......But, on the other hand, maybe she is just scared to ride, and doesn't want to admit it.

Or maybe employees like to joke with one another and make up things to pass the time. I'm not saying your friend is lying, I'm just saying perhaps the people who told her made it up to scare her in some way or form.

I too have an employee friend who tells me a bunch of rumors he hears. But I know him and even he knows to take each one with a grain of salt.

In any case, I'll have to be sure to get a ride in on Skyscraper during CoasterMania.

Here you go. I took a video of Skyscraper operating this Wednesday:

I saw 2 little girls ride Sky Scraper last night. I felt like such a chicken. lol.

I really wanted to ride Skyscraper when I went last week, but unfortunately the person I was with was feeling ill, so I didn't have the opportunity to. Oh well, maybe next year.

Sorry to bring up this old thread, but when me and my friend rode skyscraper a while ago, the speed of the ride went about the same as it usually goes, 55mph as the site says, when we rode it in the afternoon. But it was fun and interesting at night when we rode it again, because it seemed to go alot faster as if the ops jacked up the speed when it spun around. Just wondering if they do this to the ride often, cuz it's fun!

While it's possible to drive it at variable speeds, mostly for parking purposes, nobody drives it at anything but full speed during the main ride cycle. There was a period of time when the ride was going faster counter-clockwise than it was clockwise, but nothing would have changed between day and night.

And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

Can one person ride by themselves or do both seats need to be filled?

I'll be back!

You can ride alone. I rode alone my first time because the friends I was with didn't want to. The second time I rode was with another friend and the ride with 2 people was much better. There is more weight and the car spins around more. Plus while you're up at the top stopped for a few minutes you have someone to talk to.

^ I don't think my hubby will ride it. He will go on any coaster, but he doesn't like the spinning rides. It looks cool and I have got to try it out at least once. Thanx for the answer.

If he likes coasters, he should enjoy Skyscraper. It really doesn't give any "spinning" sensation as far as dizziness goes. Just some incredible views, and wonderful dives towards the ground :)

^ Is it like a coaster? I love coasters, but SkyScraper looks terrifying to me! I have heard that it is a completely different experience than a coaster.

I think it is the fact that you have to wait up at the very top for a few minutes while they let riders off and other rides back on, that ultimately turns me away. I hate lift hills, due to my fear of heights. So waiting up there like that would probably give me a heart attack. lol.

Sitting at the top probably is the most nerve racking part. While they are putting the other people in the seats the whole tower shakes... plus you are in a very free feeling restraint system. I love it, but I don't have much of a fear of heights... I know some people who have rode it who were very nervous during that part...

However the spinning part of the ride is pure bliss! Closest to flying that I have ever felt!

Skyscraper goes 42 miles per hour.
