Announcement time... the delay is bad!

Jeff said:

You can't announce the first two weeks of September, because the news will be dominated by the one-year anniversary of the terrorist attacks. Not to mention that the IAAPA summer meeting is at the park, so that ties up your marketing folks.

If you ask me, I think they'd announce during the IAAPA conference, just because it seems appropriate to announce that you're building another record breaker, and reinforce your dominance in the industry whilst you host an industry event. As far as the 9-11 thing goes, most likely the ride will have a patriotic theme so why not announce on or around the anniversary? The GP will be looking for things showing that America is back and better than ever, so positive news will be more successful around that time.

Just my two cents...

Could somebody please remind me of when the IAAPA conference is? Sorry if this has been answered before.

What makes you think there's gonna be a patriotic theme to this coaster? All of two white peices on site?

Besides, am I the only one who thinks that even trying to associate a patriotic roller coaster with the (arguably) greatest national tragedy in our history seems a bit, y'know, tasteless???

No, your not the only one. I myself stated in another topic that I wasn't a big fan of the whole patriotic coaster theme. I dont think it would be, well, not be the prettiest thing.

It could be Snoopy related. Like 'Red Baron's Revenge'. The colors fit. Red, Yellow, White, Tan....Snoopy colors. .... Just speculation on my part. I'm sure we will all be suprised as to what it is. ....

Get with it or die in the process.....

I think a 9/11 announcement would be a bad idea.

1. Is it really a good idea to dress up a tragedy as an extravaganza?

2. Would it reinforce national pride, or would it come across as upstaging?

3. Will CP be able to intercept ANY media coverage around the anniversary?

4. Is the theme of the ride appropriate? With as much patriotism rampant at the point as there is, would associating the ride with 9/11, thus making a thrill-ride-memorial, really be the classiest thing to do? Would you want an amusement ride conjuring up images of tragedy? Isn't that why they renamed "Banshee?"

I would probably avoid the whole 9/11 thing. I would really try hard to avoid associating the ride with anything that happened, but only because it walks a fine line that even the best PR department and spin doctors would be challenged to put in a wholly positive light.

Those are my two cents--I say avoid it just in case it sends the wrong message.

rawr!

I still think they will announce the ride at a time that will help their profits. This is a business you know. My guess is the week of November 17-23. This is the week that the price of season passes goes up. Shock them, then make them have to pay more a season pass. It's the way of business. Sounds logical in the business world.

Geminazi,

Your first point is the only one that you needed to make regarding the possibility of an announcement on 9/11. No PR department in their right mind would announce an amusement attraction on such a solemn occasion.

I agree. I honestly don't see how the park can have the IAAPA conference there without announcing the new ride. I mean what will they tell them? Look for news later this season? Well, the season is drawing towards the end and it is later in the season anyway. I think the park would have to have a lot of balls to not annonce the ride during IAAPA.

I think they are putting off the announcement because they are still trying to give Wicked Twister the attention it deserves. While the idea of it being a filler ride is still in debate, it does little good for Cedar Point to spend so much money on a roller coaster and have it overshaddowed by another ride before it's really necessary. Some people may decide not to take a trip to Cedar Point this year because something better could be coming next year. I know that if I had a choice of going to one park a year, I'd put off Cedar Point until they put up the really big ride if I knew one was being built. I think it's easy to overlook that option being the Cedar Point fanatics we all seem to be. You also want to concider how an information leak about Millennium Force could have easily meant them losing the record height to Steel Dragon 2000 the same year it was built. I personally think if they go over 400 ft, it's going to be a while until another park tops it. A lot of parks are having trouble getting the city to give a permit for 200 ft coaster. Regardless, why should they take their chances? If anything, I think the delay is to our benefit. I doubt Cedar Point would want news papers printing rumors about a 400 ft coaster if they were just being set up for a dissappointment. It pretty much confirms our rumors are somewhat on target. I wonder how long they will wait next summer to announce the Wild Mouse for 2004.
Wild mouse for 2004? where did you here that?

It's part of the five coaster contract they never finished with Arrow ;)
CP may never see an Arrow mouse. Unless of course Arrow lands some deals. After the SFMM incident I see it highly unlikely.

What? I doubt CP is holding out on an announcement for the reason you have stated. The only people debating if WT was a "filler ride" are the people in coaster circles such as this site. The thought of WT being anything outside of what it is --an incredible ride-- would never cross the minds of the general public.

I'm not saying people care about weather or not it's a filler ride. I'm simply saying that I believe the park wants to space out the attention each ride gets, so that they both have equal punch to them advertizing-wise. It's like adding two coasters in one year. I personally think each of these coasters gets less attention that way. If the park doesn't add a new coaster the year after building two, it seems like there is something missing to the marketing strategy. I thought spreading out marketing strategies was common..maybe I'm wrong..
Travis,

If you want a Mad Mouse Coaster, you can have MiAdventures! Move that thing to CP!

"If we go any faster, she'll blow apart for sure!"

Yeah I know that CP will make the official announcement whenever they feel like it...And why? Because they can...and all that crap, but if I was to ask one question about it though, it would have to come now.

Everyone in the world knows they're building a coaster, they know what the colors are, thy know the designer and the type of coaster it is, where it's location is going to be and ect. ect. ect. So what the hell is the big secret now? Indeed, why the delay now?

After all, the only thing left to tell us is what the height, speed, length, rph and the name of the thing is going to be.

Come on CP, the delay is total ham-n-eggs for those reasons and all of the others stated in this thread.
