Announcement time... the delay is bad!

I for one am just hoping that by the time they do announce it, they have a great promo video/ad campaign to go along with it, to the likes of Millie's. I remember what an excited feeling I got in my stomach when I watched the MF promo for the first time... I want that feeling again! For me, the lack of real hype and creativity was the one really dissapointing part about Wicked Twister's announcement.

I wasn't around when Milliennium was announced. At that time, I'd never even been to Cedar Point, but that promo video for Milliennium still gets me excited even though I've been to Cedar Point and ridden MF multiple times now. I really hope the new coaster will have the same hype about it too. Wicked Twister's was kinda boring and dull.

That's because the promotional campaign fits the ride. Millennium Force is big and exciting and Wicked Twister is dull and boring. ;)

If Cedar Point waits until November or January, isn't that technically considered after the season, and doesn't the sign say "look for news later this season"?

Maybe thats the hook to get people to buy season passes. The signs. Maybe the GP just thinks "Hey look! Cedar Point is building something next year! Why don't we get season passes now?!". I know they might not think that exactly, but you never know what will happen.

On the other hand, it could be a good idea to announce soon. Especially on a day that the park is open. I remember my friend was up in Sandusky with his family the day Millennium Force was announced. The swung by CP and heard the news, so they bought the passes that day! Remember, the GP isn't as coasterly and amusement parkly smart as us, so they might not realize when it would be a good idea to buy passes. The again, they might trust CP to please them, so they might buy them anyways.

Just my opinion. Don't take me too seriously. ;)

Just a thought. Maybe they have a canned release for the same day that six flags does to steal their thunder? Never-the-less... GET OFF THE BALL CP!

Get off the ball?
Isn't it "get on the ball"? :) Perhaps he confused it with "sh^& or get off the pot!" :)

My bad.

:-)

Maybe since the ride is now arriving, we might see an announcement sometime soon?

Turkeys, the only animal smarter than man-Homer J. Simpson

I remember when the MF track arrived, they put up a construction web page with Monty's "Ground Rules" for not climbing on the track, etc, they have to say something real soon I would think. I predict of Labor Day-put up the big sign during your last big weekend of the year. It makes perfect sense it seems...

Is there any reason that they could make two announcements for the ride? They could now say that they are building the world's tallest fastest rollercoaster. Speeds in excess of 100 MPH and height in excess of 400 feet. (Or whatever they are doing.) This would get the attention of the GP, and might help with season pass sales, and then later on, announce the stats for the ride. This way, they can keep the true stats secret, yet still get everyone hyped up for it. Just a thought.

------------------
"Millennium Force, the Future is riding on it."
Now, Cedar Point is "Bulding for the future."
Coincidence?

That's a distinct possibility. Maybe CP wants to keep the competition/world in limbo for a while relative to the true specs in order to prevent another Steel Dragon type scenario which occurred after the announcement/erection of M-Force.
Yeah, because I'm sure Nagashima Spaland waited to hear how tall MF was before building their coaster. It takes more than just a short time to build track pieces, folks.

Probably not, however, since M-Force's specs officially came out in the July '99 announcement and Steel Dragon did not go up until August of '00, maybe some last minute engineering changes were made to up CP by a few feet?
You don't just make last minute changes to ride parts...the G's change, the stresses change, and it would be a nightmare to try to redesign the first drop and 2nd hill to work out with the change.

Anyone notice the slight tease at the end of the most recent FUNtimes newsletter?

"And with Labor Day approaching, can the 2003 Season Pass Sale be far
behind? Only time will tell…"

My guess is that the announcement, whenever it will be, will coincide with the kickoff of 2003 season pass sales. This tease just seemed a little unusual to me.

I dont understand why you would want to announce a ride for next year before season passes go on sale.

When I saw on my messenger that I got a FUNtimes newsletter I thought that they had finally announced the ride, but only to find a season pass teaser.

Saturday night, Park Operations told us January.

Let your mind go...and your body will follow...

So...offer up the discounted Season Passes as usual for all those people who would normally purchase them before the end of the year. THEN make an announcement in January that will excite the non-season pass buyers enough that they will consider buying season passes at the higher 2003 price.
