announcement date 8/18/15

^I can see your point there, but is' a darn shame that we, as humans, are too caught up in being political correct.

Trying to be politically correct is what sent us in a spiral down the toilet in the first place...Now, we're just waiting for the snake to come in, appear to unclog the mess, and finish off the job.

What about that major car accident on the causeway a few years ago? Should Cedar Point have closed the causeway, and started a ferry service instead, as to not be too insensitive to those involved in the accident?

You're being ridiculous.

It has nothing to do with being politically-correct (and no, "being PC" hasn't caused "us" to go down any "toilet bowl"... save your poorly-veiled political bait for CableNewsDemagogueryBuzz.com). It's about being considerate and sensitive.

Regardless of how stupid the guy's decision was, he's still dead, and family and friends are left to mourn the loss. It wouldn't be cool to host what amounts to a party announcing their new coaster (from the same folks who brought you Raptor!), that is named after an agent of death, and make part of the marketing campaign essentially boil down to "on this ride, only a fence will save your life". Avoiding those things isn't "being PC". It's just being considerate.

Okay, so I'll concede. Comparing the car accident on the causeway to the coaster accident may be a bit ridiculous....

Tell me then, at what point, date, time and hour, does it become okay to release the details of the new ride? At what second is it time to still be very sensitive, but the next second, the time to be sensitive is over?

Try to help me out here, and help me understand. I'm not trying to be rude, unsympathetic, or a jerk. I just don't understand why Cedar Point should be "penalized" for something that wasn't their fault.

I will reiterate, as I have in many of posts, this was not a good situation all around, and I feel terrible for all involved.

I'm thinking the announcement will be during Halloweekends.

CF is in the business of providing entertainment with the aim of making their guests happy. They're not in the "making a statement" business.

Which makes sense if its another animal of prey. That would be a good time. I guess keeping an eye on the plant that makes the track is good for now. Thats why my comment abt the fense area. But, will this stop any work within the wooden fense in the park itself ?

I'd be willing to bet that the actual construction will start according to the original schedule. It wouldn't surprise me at all to see site work, and track arrive prior to the announcement. I think the only item that is delayed is simply the announcement itself.

I just realized when on the CP website, this years coaster camp out is called "Part Deux"... Deux defined by google means "a dance or figure for two performers" and or "an intricate relationship or activity involving two parties or things". Could this mean two birds in the same area? Aka Raptor and Valravn?

Hum, takes back to my post, this ride could be 2 in 1 attraction.

Or, there were two Coaster Campout events in the same year. :)

I think the postponement boils down to- "The ride will be themed after a corpse-eating bird. It is not too far from Raptor, another ride by the same company where a man recently tragically died. (Not to mention, the fact that Raptor is also bird-themed just seems to add insult to injury.) We don't want to seem like we're dancing on a grave.".

Yes: the park is showing deference to the recent tragedy. A press announcement tomorrow would have been about the tragedy, not the new coaster.

I'm a Marxist, of the Groucho sort.

Maybe for Halloweekends this year they'll place fake ravens/crow decorations all over the park to tease the new ride? I don't know, just thinking of ways to make the most of the postponed announcement.

I agree that the announcement will be during Halloweekends. Valravn will fit well with the other attractions and it will not be viewed as morbid on it's own.

The app countdown has been reset for 130 days. That is roughly Christmas. Not sure if this is the new date or if they just had to select a random date in the future.

To say I'm anti-PC would be the understatement of the year. That said, I don't have a problem with putting off the date a bit (although I think just enough time has passed so it wouldn't be disrespectful to announce now either). There's no huge event this is interfering with and everything being equal it's respectful not to have your 2 new stories in a week be someone dying and your new ride (both of which will be the biggest news of the year for casual readers in all likelihood). It doesn't need be a long delay, but I would wait for this story to disappear and the family's life to get back to normal a bit before announcing. Even next week I think might be a bit better.

Has anyone ever thought of posting something so GENIUS, so spectacular, that it gets "VOTED UP" like crazy, and then edit the post to something really stupid just to screw with those who gave it the "vote up" in the first place?

Nope, I tend to post the really stupid stuff right out of the gate.

And you still tend to get voted up 7 (as of now) :)
