announcement date 8/18/15

There are already several coasters named Cliffhanger/Cliff Hanger.

Take: I don't think anyone will be offended by the name Valravn. Also not sure how the name became controversial. They postponed the announcement simply to let the effects of the incident settle and out of some semblance of respect for the family imo.

The name isn't controversial beyond those who can't let a short delay in an announcement in deference to a tragedy just be a short delay in an announcement in deference to a tragedy.

I do not see the big deal with Valravn's theme. They opened Banshee at KI and surrounded the que area with a cemetary. Come time for Halloweekends CP will have several attractions with a death theme.

So what would be worse? Not changing the ride's name and having it somehow associated to a death a few weeks prior and catching some media backlash for it til things "blow over". Or 15-20 years from now, the story will always be the ride was to have been named this til some guy did something incredibly dumb...which will ALWAYS bring it up.

We still talk about Banshee --> Mantis. No reason to go down that road again. At least the first was a funny story. This, would not be.

I doubt the media headlines next May would be, "Cedar Point unveils new coaster which has name with some darker connotations next to ride that struck and killed patron"...

Who still recalls that Mantis was to be named Banshee? Surely not the media, except maybe during the announcement and launch of Kings Island's Banshee.

Does anyone have a guess as to when the announcement will actually happen now?

^ Never. they're canceling the dive coaster because "dive" and "die" sound too similar and the media will surely feast on it.

Nothing has been stated by the park as far as when to expect an announcement. BUT, I do have a small update from the park. They have installed fencing in the field by Breakers Express. Obvious guess would be that track will be showing up soon.

And how does that by any means indicate the track will be sent there? Have they done that in the past? Thought they just hauled it straight from the plant. I believe Gatekeeper track just sat in the parking lot of CP...

It doesn't. It doesn't mean anything. That's why Adam said it was his guess.

And, yes, they have used the field neighboring Breakers Express previously for mid-season coaster construction storage. Before Maverick was announced, they were receiving shipments and even started construction. That's what they used so they did not have to block off parking they will so desperately need on busy days (think Halloweekends Saturdays).
