So what would be worse? Not changing the ride's name and having it somehow associated to a death a few weeks prior and catching some media backlash for it til things "blow over". Or 15-20 years from now, the story will always be the ride was to have been named this til some guy did something incredibly dumb...which will ALWAYS bring it up.
We still talk about Banshee --> Mantis. No reason to go down that road again. At least the first was a funny story. This, would not be.
I doubt the media headlines next May would be, "Cedar Point unveils new coaster which has name with some darker connotations next to ride that struck and killed patron"...

And, yes, they have used the field neighboring Breakers Express previously for mid-season coaster construction storage. Before Maverick was announced, they were receiving shipments and even started construction. That's what they used so they did not have to block off parking they will so desperately need on busy days (think Halloweekends Saturdays).
