That’s Celebration Plaza. So AWE and Vertical Impact will share the same stage?

Vertical Impact IS the new AWE show.

The carpenters were hard at work on that stage on Tuesday evening, not as if they had only just begun. It appears as though the stage protrudes even further into the midway. But as I walked past it seemed obvious it was being fashioned for AWE, it has numerous ramps & launch opportunities. Those carpenters were doing awesome work. I'm leaving on a jet plane.

Quite a bit of modification of Celebration Plaza. As mentioned above, the stage is pushed out such that the path is much narrower, but the weird curvy protrusions in the middle of the midway have been removed. It's gonna be a tight squeeze through there during shows.

How can this be enjoyable for show attendees or pedestrians? Celebration Plaza is the biggest “WTF are they thinking” in the park and it now appears they have made it even worse. Smh.

Cargo, I agree.

The only upside to this photo is that the fencing appears temporary, as shown by the different style from Valravyn decorative style.

Part of the attraction to AWE and Luminosity was the seating when you wanted to get off your feet. Its not that the shows were that captivating.

The bleachers appear to gone as well. Vertical Impact on my feet.

Hopefully they at least provide a path around the show.

You are right. Those shows were downright boring. I only watched because I had to since the seats were facing the shows.

All joking aside, I have to disagree with your opinions that it was impossible to get through the area during shows.

I've come to CP with friends who only go once a year and they don't find any issue with getting through, as there was a very wide path behind the railing with employees moving people through smoothly. My family and I never had any issues either. Opposing traffic stayed on opposite sides of the walkthrough, while those watching the show were on the other side of the railing. It was no different than walking anywhere else in the park.

As I understand it, the bleachers are removed every off-season. They'll be back, presumably.

No one said that.

It was no different than walking anywhere else in the park.

And that is definitely nonsense. It's not impossible to get through, but it's a crowded, hectic mess on busy evenings. Try navigating a stroller through there sometime.

I have a 3 year old brother and we've been taking him to the park for 2 years. Maybe you've only passed through there on bad days but we saw the show pretty much every visit and most of the time it was very organized.

It’s often a disorganized, unnecessary and poorly timed( for people trying to leave the park) inconvenience placed in an almost unavoidable location.

Stating otherwise is just choosing to ignore the problem.

ValravnCP must be visiting the Alternate Universe CP.

It was a cluster trying to get through there Every. Single. Time.

Try getting through there with a funnel cake for your pregnant wife eagerly awaiting one back at the marina. Ohh and do it on a Saturday night. There was quite a lot of human dodgem going on, even with the crowd control measures.

The one thing that may make getting around slightly easier is the timing, the show is at 8:00pm, instead of 9:00pm like Luminosity.

I long for the day that that stage is removed. I think it will probably happen whenever they remove Iron Dragon and put a GCI Woddie there, at least thats what happens in my mind.

Maybe I just am so incredibly lucky to have only really gone to Cedar Point on not-so-crowded days.

Unless you were trying to do a full-speed dash through the area, it wasn't that bad at all. Well, at least on all those somehow lucky days I went. The only time it got bad was AFTER the show ended, trying to go towards the back of the park while everyone else was heading towards the entrance.

The 2018 park map lists the area where the stadium once stood as "LAKESIDE STAGE" it sounds like there is indeed a stage being constructed in the former site that will host the park's new nighttime show "Fire and Ice" which will provide a concert type atmosphere in the park while at the same time entertainment for people on the beach. This is a huge win and I welcome the change.

As for AWE.... Celebration Plaza was a great concept- with poor execution. I still say WildCat's demise is directly related to poor planning and foresight. Again, this area is a main artery for guests heading to the back of the park or exiting at night. It needs to be moved. Hopefully this is just a temporary fix for this year, and next year it is moved to a more ideal location, I can think of a few other spots that would work...

- Dismantle the old Pirate Ride building and put it there

- Dismantle Cedars, push the road back 100 feet towards the marina, and place the venue in this area, which will allow for a clear path in the back (along Iron Dragon towards the railroad crossing).

- Relocate the Scrambler and place it in the area adjacent to the Erie Estate Haunt

- Dismantle the stretch of Games between Johnny Rockets and Pinks, place it in between these two locations.

For a park that has expansive areas of concrete midway, they choose to put this venue in one of the most narrow areas, and high trafficked spots. Will never make sense.

Celebration Plaza has looked like crap from the start. I had hoped they would have made it nicer by now.

Agreed with everything, except this. To be fair, this was arguably the largest expanse of wide open concrete in the park. It's just that it's also one of the most heavily-trafficked.

Also, with regard to the old Stadium site, that area is listed as Lakeside Midway, according to the Dining Plan Locations map.

The Google maps walk through has Wildcat still there. It was really a huge open space. It looks like the problem there has been since Celebration Plaza was created is that the center portion of the stage sticks out so far into the midway it creates a very tight pinch space right where everyone wants to stand. The new stage appears to stick out just as far but is the entire width of the main stage now.

While I never cared for the laser show, at least the ugly screen was at the end of that midway which gave everyone an easy view of it. The new stage being on the side of the midway doesn't make it very easy for as many people to see it well.

I think the point of having the Celebration Plaza there IS because the traffic is huge. The thing is dead smack in the middle of the park, bringing in huge crowds. For that reason, I like where it’s at. A simple fix would be to push that fence, that is sticking out for no reason at all, back to the road. It would open up tons of extra space that is currently being wasted.
