If they did that then I don't think pointbuzz would have anything to complain about. XD

how many Intamin prefabs have been built in the US in the last 20 years? Exactly 1, and it was built more than a decade ago. That should tell you something.
And it is the number one wood coaster on the Golden Ticket list. Maybe the park wants the number one wood and steel and they expect that Steel Vengeance will get the number one steel. They can accomplish that goal while setting a record and celebrate their milestone year in style.
Say NO to Maverick!
You want thrills? Demon Drop 2.0, with modern design, electronics, and mechanicals, 150 feet tall for the 150th year, complete with 10 different VR versions including jumping from a plane, a cliff, collapsing bridge, etc.
A guaranteed crowd pleaser.
Ive always fantasized about a modern Demon Drop style Intamin 1st-gen drop tower. Those have always been the scariest freefall rides, and the thought of a 200-plus-foot version is tantalizing. Magnetic brakes on the horizontal stretch, and somehow get rid of that back breaking ker-clonk, and it would be so great.
I've often wondered if what made Demon Drop so anxiety-inducing was intentional or just a series of pleasant unintended consequences.
First of all, it looked like a gutted elevator shaft, so right off the bat you are playing off of people's fears of being trapped in an elevator and/or plummeting to one's untimely demise from the 50th floor. Of all the phobias, elevators are right up there with some of the most common, and I always thought that was genius. Yes, newer drop towers operate on the same principle, but Demon Drop actually looks like an elevator. Scary.
Personally, and mind you I was about 8 years old when it debuted, but what always scared me about Demon Drop from below was when it slowly...ever so slowly...crept out at the top of the tower before dropping. My (anxious) mind always envisioned the car continuing to creep out and simply falling off the tower. After all, from the ground you really couldn't see what was holding that car in place as it was slowly pushed out to the edge. Scary.
And then there were the sounds and the overall jerky nature of the whole thing. It put the thought in your mind that it was older than it was simply by design. Scary.
And of course there were the endless rumors of cars flying off the rails after dropping. Silly.
But really, I have often wondered if these were by design or simply happenstance. I'm assuming the latter, as newer versions, no matter how tall, never really capture the fear factor of Demon Drop for me.
To be honest, a 200-300 foot version of Demon Drop would make me tinkle a little bit.

While I have never ridden demon drop(wasn't even born yet when it came out), a larger version would probably be cool. Or maybe an intamin hybrid between Demon Drop and Falcon's Fury? That would be cool.
Speaking of Demon Drop, I remember my gov't teacher talking about how he and a few friends went to CP, rode demon drop, and found enough loose change that they used to have lunch with. XD It was 20.00 or so.

Like most people related to the government in some way, I'm pretty sure your teacher embellished that amount just a tad. ;)
Back in the day (get off my lawn!) the cool thing to do on Demon Drop was to put a coin on your leg during the drop. Once your car fell, the coin would fall with you and sometimes "hover" with your group. I'm sure plenty of pocket change was lost that way.
Enough to buy lunch at Cedar Point? Maybe for the carp swimming in the lagoons via the fish-food machines.

Okay. Yeah, I actually did hear of the whole putting a coin on your knee thing for demon drop. I seriously contemplated doing the same thing on power tower. Hey, which one's scarier? Power Tower or Demon Drop?

Don’t do it on Power Tower. You’re LAUNCHED downward and you aren’t in a ride vehicle. The coin will go flying and could hit someone below.
Ok so I found it funny that under Kevinj’s post about things people fear, there’s an ad for Alegiant airlines... Don’t they have a not-so-stellar mechanical record? Now that’s a fear of mine, falling out of the sky in a dead stick airplane.
ROUNDABOUND.
Got it, Shane.
If you want to talk about scary, Power Tower is the only flat that I am remotely scared of, even though I rode it multiple times(and even got a solo ride on my side). Even though you're in a harness, it feels as if there's nothing to hold on to.
As for the fears thing, pilots are trained for pretty much the worst possible things.

As a huge aviation guy, I hungrily devour air accident reports and crash investigations, but never have any issue stepping foot on a plane after.
I do often daydream about being in a plane crash though.
Not sure if "visionist" is the best screen name to make such a declaration under...

Hey, visionist, aren't there things you can do to increase your survival odds in a crash?

On Demon Drop, the change would come out of your pockets when your laying on your back after your freefall. I noticed I'd lost some change and went to dig it out from under the back side of the seat and there was about 3X the amount I lost. So we always made a point to ride and collect what had come out of peoples pockets. But it was never $20. Never hardly $5. And the ride hosts definitely knew, because I was scolded on time for trying to get more after it was time to unload. The ride host kind of acted like I needed to leave it there for him.

This isn't quite the embellishment as one would think. I worked Mr. Hyde's Nasty Fall at GL and due to the nature of laying on your back after the drop loose change would constantly be found behind the seats. I think about $20 for a day was the best haul I ever had. And that was just collecting quarters here and there throughout the day. Many a lunches were purchased from my change collecting at Mr. Hyde's.
That's actually pretty cool. On my thread about the worst/funniest things employees have seen, one pointbuzzer metnioned how there was a little over $100 worth in the keyhole's loose change loading, and that's donated to the children's fund. I wonder if it was actually legal to collect loose change from demon drop.

Power Tower scares the crap out of me but it’s fun. We went to Hersheypark last month and let me tell you, Triple Tower was triple scary... There was no belt on the restraint. I HUGGED that OTSR like my life depended on it, convinced the whole time that I would be the poor soul who had the restraint pop open at the top of the upward launch, sending me flying into the stratosphere.

Before the CF days at GL we were allowed to keep the change we found. The best places were the loop and brake run at X-Flight, the cars at Hyde's and underneath Texas Twister. But you would find lots of loose change at the woodies too. My best ever find was a $100 bill in the Wolf Bobs train while cleaning at night after close. For amounts that high we were asked to turn it into Guest Services with our names on it and if it wasn't claimed in two weeks we got to keep it. Luckily I got to keep that $100! But for loose change no one bothered.
During the CF days we were expected to turn all change into the rides office where it was collected and donated to charity at the end of the season. It would typically get to be around $1000+. It's amazing.
At Hersheypark now. They could replace Power Tower with a bigger combo drop. The one here is pretty fun. Also requires way fewer employees.
