A look back...

Okay, here we are, less than 24 hours away from the day of the hugely anticipated announcement. For the past 4 months, we have speculated, posted, linked, photoshopped, argued, flamed, and quoted without restraint. PointBuzz's membership has skyrocketed and so has the level of sarcasm. However, I must say, it's been kinda entertaining. I mean, why else would I check on the forums every day when I probably should have been doing something else...

So I ask you all to look back. The best quotes, the best arguments, the best speculation, whatever. Just post what you will remember from the pre-[Maverick??] speculation and what you have learned or just anything interesting.

Of course, I think I speak for us all when I say thank you to Walt and Jeff for giving us a Project 2007 forum and maintaining it, as much as a headache as it must have been. Also, thanks to Walt, Doug, Jason, and whoever else gave us the practically daily photo updates of the construction site. This site wouldn't be what it is without you guys. *** Edited 9/6/2006 4:37:35 AM UTC by ramboozle***

Hail to the Victors

..."Water will be involved in this ride"

..."Its an Aquatrax!!!"

..."OMG!!! They just tightened a bolt!!! Check out the webcam!!! He has a wrench!!!"

I'll be happy to have the insanity subside after thursday... ((I hope it will anyway))

I doubt it will subside...after Thursday it will probably be "Why is it *this*? Why couldn't it be *that* instead*?

Not to be confused with Twisted Wicker 08 from 2002

I see green track.........
It'll be 500 ft, 4d dueling, speed monster. *** Edited 9/6/2006 4:50:39 AM UTC by SteelRaptor***

All my life I've been an obese man trapped inside a fat man's body

Twisted Wicker hit the nail on the head.

We haven't heard the best of it yet. Post-announcement is the best time for all of the whiners to come out of the woodwork and complain about how "Cedar Point is a dissapointment now" and blah blah blah.

Just you wait...

We can always just remember that I was right and that I rule.

Don't forget the "I said that first!" and the "I told you so!" stuff.

WOW , I can't believe no one said Project 2008! Wait that will be next! My favorite thing I've read so far is that they are building two rides, they started early so they can start on the other one later! And CCMR sinking! Or mean streak being removed! When all is said and done, I will enjoy the new restaurant with all the red rolller coaster track!

Commercial;

Are you ready? CP will unleash a new monster this year...........We bring you "Maverick," Climbing over a mindblowing 100ft of steel track, with speeds that will rip you face off at 57 miles per hour. Scare yourself silly and ride upside down twice with us this year! Yes the ride may be smaller than the Dip N' Dots stand but....... Will you dare challenge the might "Maverick?"

All my life I've been an obese man trapped inside a fat man's body

How about a cowboy going thru the desert, nothing but sand and a mirage of a dippin dots stand! Only to find a little sidewinding rattlesnake?

"CP wont ever make a coaster with both a Launch and a Hill... that would not be cost effective" This one I like the most ;) You know who you are

And you are welcome, I was one of those who brought you photos, I think 3 times If I remember. It was a lot of fun going to the park and speculating with others. I accually fell asleep for a short while behind Undertaker U when they were putting in the first transition on one of the S-Curves. Just took a seat against the building and took a short nap ;)

I cant wait for next yer to see what CP will throw at us! Water Ride 2008 ;)

SteelRaptor - will that commercial be filmed in "whinervision"?

Maybe they will have a commercial marathon on CrybabypeepantsTV!

Maybe they will give out free press kits with the purchase of any size HaterAid!

Platinum has it's perks. So does living exactly 97.5 miles from King's Island and Cedar Point

I have no qualms about taking accountability for that comment, and I stand by it to this day. I'm still betting that won't be a lift hill. :)

(And, yes, my original comment was specifically regarding a lift hill, not a launch followed by a hill.)

I think the funniest speculation this past 6 months was:

"Dragsters getting a hill!!!"

This ride will be "Going Backwards".

"It can't be a launch, it's got triangle track!"

Jeff Young

"It's a brake run" NO "It's a launching section" NO "It's a brake run!"

I remember myself being part of that debate. And I admit I was wrong. It IS a launch, and not a brake-run. But I did say there would be a lift based on the size and orientation of the footers. ;)

Oh, and I'm almost positive someone guessed we would have spinning cars (not the ball coaster type), but I think they meant something similar to "spinning mice" cars.

JuggaLotus's avatar

That would have been mine (the spinning mice) and apparently the pool of sarcasm that it was swimming in wasn't detected.

I still think a launched spinning mouse would be sweet though.

"Put 2 and 2 together" :)

All the hype about registering the name 'Maverick'

"Maybe they track is just being put here under a blue tarp because CP is trying to trick us and it's actually going to Worlds of Fun"

"This is going to a be a small, family coaster"

"Island construction?????" (Oh wait, that was me...oops ;))

"Both Intamin and B&M are being used for this ride"

"This ride will have 12 inversions, including a 200 foot loop that is right after the midcourse launch that goes underneath the station" (at least part of that was right! :))

(Back in the winter) "Why is WWL completely gone but the station is still standing??"

The speculation really started a year ago when WWL was officially being torn down. Well, if you wanna go even farther back it was when Kinzel announced his retirement in...2004? Is tha right? Either way, all the speculation will come together tommorrow morning :).

Go to bed early tonight!

My favorite comments are all the people who keep saying "Kinzel wants to go out with a bang."

I'm just hoping the bang is the demo charges on that red, white and yellow monstrosity in the middle of the park.
