If they increase the price of housing, they will give themselves another bullet in their proverbial foot, which is already full of holes. It also gives those of us considering Hard Rock or elsewhere even more of a reason to cut our losses and go elsewhere.

I understand that parks near large cities have a draw for local employees but it would be nice to see a park like Hard Rock build some sort of housing for those who want to come and work seasonally. I know Hard Rock has seasonal jobs so they could hire that college student who cant sign a 12 month lease at a local apartment complex. I know if they did offer housing, Hard Rock would see a large influx of Cedar Point employees.

Hard Rock may not have housing, but SF Great Adventure does, and I've heard its similar to Disney's. Last I knew, pay rate out there was $8.10 with a $1.50 bonus plan.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.

Nice, it seems they have thier head in the game.

After reading a lot of this silly nonsense that people are throwing out here, I see lot of you have never worked there and think you know it all. They will almost never have a problem hiring new people. When I went to my first summer, I didn't know or care what I got paid and the bonus thing. The problem that the current pay situation generates is RETENTION. You can hire endless new people, but who is going to lead them, train them, give them great summers that they want to repeat?

My summers there were great beause I'd see a lot of the same people year after year. My last two seasons, the turnover was horrible. You guys need to quit typing that CP is like "f them seasonals" and crap like that. There are many reasons that they make the wage where it is: Profitability, local cost of living, state of the company.. I can go on.

All in all it comes down to employee retention, and the lack of incentives for returning employees. You keep the good ones coming back, the more good ones you develop and keep the cycle going.

Ride Op '02-'07

CPboy77 you deserve everything said to you. And since you pretend to not be willing to read long rants I am going to give you a quick sugestion. Drop your sn start and start a new one. Snap to reality and see that there are many things wrong with your beloved CP. Change your approach to posting, and no one will know who you are. Unless of course you feel you have nothing to hide. But I think we all know that you pretty much targeted yourself as a punching bag. But its ok little fella you can still fix this, just change your name.

Maybe they took the prices of housing down because they will make housing free for employees! Some of the internations I worked with were not working there just for the money, they did it for some program through their college and major. They had a list of places to pick from, and Cedar Point was one of them.

Sometimes this math is fun on the lack of overtime pay...

Cedar Point you work 70 hours one week, you make $490+bonus.

Job with overtime, no union, federal law only, you make $595.

I continue to believe the "spirit of the law" in terms of no overtime pay was meant for summer camps, small farms, not multinational corporations trying desperately to make a billion dollars a year.

Funny thing is, as a former seasonal, I think I've heard this talk about the wages every year for the last 8.

But hey, are the baby buds still 50 cents at Louie's? Thats all that really matters.

<edit> I'm told the baby buds are now 75 cents.. this is cause for alarm.

I doubt that anyone wants to bring you "Down". But when people bust their ass and hear that they are greedy, well they take offense.

Not only that but your complete lack of understanding of how the "Real World" works is painful. Believe me there isn't a textbook out there on it, just walk on down to your local restaurant, grocery store or whatever is near your house and see how fun it is.

101 on Magnum and counting...

any past employees get an email from Cedar Point? I got one from Steve Vorhees, it included a thank you letter and a special request form for next year.

Sounds like some of the managers know they need to be feeling desperate already. I haven't gotten one yet, though I won't be surprised to get one if rides somehow finds out I didn't get Live E.

Yay they were asking if you know anyone that would also would like to be a ride op. Steve asked if you are returning to e-mail him ASAP and if you are not, to email him also. Kind of sound like they know they might have a tough time getting people to come back.
I dont know if im comming back, I thought about it, but I can get paid better staying in Illinois working at a grocery store. Im looking at other options.

As a side note pertaining to looking elsewhere for better pay, I just found out that Universal is developing the rest of their 800 acre property, and part of the development includes some employee apartments, similar to Disney's. Considering this is a very recent development, I'm going to keep my eyes peeled for a college program.

Also, in reference to HRP, I have heard that they are leaning towards some employee housing, but are still undecided.

Depending on what happens with the Cedar Point housing, it could ultimately be what helps make my final decision a yes or no. Especially if HRP does decide to put up some housing.

HRP looks like a great park and it would be a great place to work. I hope they decide to have employee housing then I would be there in a heart beat. I heared about Universal, sounds like a good plan. I heared it is pretty expensive to live at Disney, anyone know more? Looked at there site and found nothing about housing.

I've heard its about double Cedar Point's housing; but then again, this isn't Cedars or Commons, these are pretty nice apartments with pretty nice amenities available, like pools, tennis courts, basketball courts, and more. Well worth it from what I've heard.

The Disney College Program also only pays $6.67 an hour...

EDIT: Just checked the website, and it says $6.79 an hour, but, I had a friend that did the program this spring, and she only got $6.67 an hour. So, either, it's increased, or it's not entirely correct on the website.

Hmmm...so that's where I decide if I also want the college credits that come along with the paycheck I guess. If you're not doing it for the credits, that's one thing, but my considerations for the DCP are for the credit/intern opportunities. Cedar Point really doesn't offer anything close to those opportunities, so they already lost me come time for an internship. *** Edited 12/14/2007 6:55:08 AM UTC by BlueStreak64***

Business Administration. They have some pretty good related courses in the DCP. There are a few other things I have heard about it which have really gotten my attention, but that's a completely different discussion.
