1 final re-theme idea for Disaster Transport.

I was thinking about Disaster Transport today and even though it is one of my favorite "fun" rides, I think the themeing is well beyond repair. I know that it still does pull in some great numbers as far as capacity to this day, I just had an idea on a Peanuts re-theme. Why not make it a Planet Snoopy sort of ride since it is kind of close to it. The exterior of the building can be painted with huge peanuts characters on the sides. I know that it does actually go pretty fast for some youngsters but if the lights were on inside the buiding, it might actually make it less scary for kids. Here is my idea. Have it themed to Snoopy and the Red Baron airplane thing. The cars can be re-themed to be Snoopys dog house. Make the large room with the space ship pieces (the ride itself not the waiting room) painted all blue to make it look like a sky with faux clouds. Light it up nicley have some airplane sound effects and fog to make it seem that Snoopy is sky writing in that section. The tunnel parts can be themed to be clouds with white lighting and lots of fog to make it feel like you are going through clouds. The last part after the final MCBR you know, "Im losing control!" can be themed to have a lightning strike and thunder sounds or something to that effect that makes Snoopy lose control of the plane into a tailspin. But of course you know that Snoopy always comes though and saves the day. What do you think? The inside Que lines can be themed was maybe as a forest such as E.T. at Universal studios.

I'd rather see some type of aquatic theme. Since it's by the lake, and they dont use the Aquatic Stadium anymore (for aquatic reasons, I mean), why not theme DT like that?

Change the name of the ride to something of the ship. Put a little story behind it about this ship sinking into a deep body of water, people and treasure was lost, etc. With the ride layout, and special lighting and such, it could make you feel as if you were swimming.

I think it'd be a great ride.

I say just rethem it as Avalanche Run. Tear down the building. It would be really easy to do. Tearing buildings down is done everyday.

Let the ride be free! Release it from it's alien theme from hell. Let it out and take advantage of the lake views!

The problem with having his type of ride "open" is weather.

Great Advenure had he same type of ride and everytime it rained they had to wait until the "track" was completely dry before it could be reopened. The ride is so sensitive to moisture they ended up having to towel down the track after even a mist.

Not really great for a ride right on lake Erie.

The only way I've seen around it is using what looks like a"mesh" track like the bobsled ride at King's Dominion.

I would love the building to be torn down! The Snoopy theme would be so cool! I miss the views of the lake!

A snoopy theme would actually be kinda perfect. Too bad it would never be worth the money it would take to retheme it.

Spending more money on DT is like buying fancy rims and a bass-infused stereo system for a Yugo. Just let the ugly monstrosity die already.

Please.

Promoter of fog.

Oh crap. How did you know about my car?

That is a great view of the lake, but let's not forget that there are tons of spots at CP to get a good view of the lake. The best is obviously right on the beach in front of Hotel Breakers.

^ And if they themed DT like the snoopy, or ocean, or whatever, it will bu JUST LIKE it was years ago. All that theming will deteriorate just like the space stuff did. You can theme it to anything you want, and cedar point would still let it become unmaintained. IMO, tear down the ugly building and let it be avalanche run again, but replace the intamin trough with what KD's bobsled has for its trough.

I wish I was born before '87 so that I would have been able to go to CP and be tall enough to ride avalanche run and even remember it. :)

Even though tearing down the building would be "easy," it would still cost a good chunk of money to do it. And it's not like that is going to draw a lot more people to the park. Besides, the only time people really ride it is on the really hot summer days just so they can stand in the air conditioning for a while.

I would love the entire thing be demolished for redevelopment. Over the years, my support has always went to the beginner coaster rider. However, CCMR, Wildcat, Corkscrew, and Iron Dragon would fill the void. That beach front property DT sits on is a prime area for a new and major attraction. It would be awesome to see a new dark ride be constructed, and have the front of it facing the beach with the boardwalk extended.

I don't think it would take too much money to re-theme it. I'm sure they could get a lot of volunteers to paint the outside of the building, and the inside for that matter. They wouldn't even need animatronics. As long as they had some sort of peanuts decoration on the inside.

I think that at this point, any sort of theme would be better than what they have. Not to mention that last year the queue smelt in between those aluminum walls.

"You wanna, you gotta, you hafta hold on, Cedar Point...HOLD ON!"

They cant tear the building down... The reason they put it up is because of the sand. I think the original theme was great... but it needs some renovations! New props and "Were out of control!" needs to come back!

^ I agree. We are losing control was one of the best parts of the ride. :)

I definitely like your idea clevelander, but I say don't spend another dime on this ride, unless they want to retheme it as a junk pile...I'm all for that. Let's take advantage of the lake and put a boardwalk wooden coaster in it's spot.

I don't know what is best for the Transport, but I hope they at least keep the breaks a bit quieter this year! They were getting really loud! A funny thought about that. my son was helping to make coffee for dad. He moved the coffee pot across the counter. It made a loud noise. He said it sounds like the breaks of the Disaster Transport! Just a silly thought!

You mean we're losing control? ;)

Proving I've ridden DT more times than I should.

I have to admit that this is the very 1st time in all the years I have been on this site I have seen the word "smelt" in any post! :)

Last edited by LuvRaptor,

It's all about getting around the barrels, or over the fences, right leads, no faults, fastest time and looking pretty when done. What's so hard about that?

I say make it like a techno theme. It's already semi-cool to do that. (with all the neon paint and stuff in the queue lines). Just add the music and then youre good to go with that. Then for the actual coaster, re-paint around the walls and do some strobe lights and blacklights and disco balls :) Just a thought

So stoked for 2010 :]
