Magnum Retracking

Magnum changed everything.. That is... Kinzel's desire to have something like Bandit in Sandusky... Toomer though pushed for the coaster to break 200'... And those combinations forever changed the roller coaster course in history.

MF just continued the course, yet remains my #1. Teach their own.

That's the amazing aspect about CP. Something for everyone!

I am all for getting the max potential out of rides. Like I said in that KIC thread, new trains, less trims and possible retracting would add so much more to the beast. For magnum, new trains, no trims, smoother turnaround and possible more "natural" feeling bunny hills would add so much more to the ride.

Then why do you insist on Cedar Point changing everything that isn't exactly the way you want it to be?

I didn't realize Magnum had so many issues when it opened.

There is no obvious reason to modify the track. I see the point when it comes to the lap bars.
For the record, I don't see a reason to modify the Beast either.

Talk about tunnels, flat track and flat turns, instead of touching Magnum how about modifying MF?

Wouldn't find me complaining whatsoever

Sometimes I wonder about the age of some of the posters. I am 55 and started riding coasters at a young age, and back then they were all wooden and rough. Anyone here remember the wildcat at idora park? I am not as technically into coasters as some of the posters here, but I think I know what a good coaster is. And Magnum is a great one. I just spent three days at the park and rode it several times. I love it the way it is. And, by the way I am 6'5" and 315 pounds.

Idora's Wildcat will always remain one of the most frightening, roughest rides I ever took. There were moments of downright scary air, a killer fan turn, and seats with no dividers and no lap bar whatsoever. And I rode it over and over.
I'm going on 62 and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be able to handle it as well as I did then, but I'd love to give it another try.

Magnum is fine the way it is. We rode it on opening day and thought it was the slickest thing out there. And that's because it was. Just because later coasters might be smoother, faster, or more comfortable doesn't mean they're better. Magnum needs no experience-altering modifications. It's an example of the the best of its day and of its genre and should be left alone.
To this day, Magnum XL200 is my go-to ride at CP. After what has to be hundreds of rides I'm still taken by its forces and speed, and (even at my age) consider the sharp transitions of the bunny hops to be delightful, breathtaking fun. I'll take it any day over smoother rides like Gatekeeper or Valravn.

I'm 30 and I think Magnum is fine the way it is. I don't find it rough in any way. I can even tolerate Mean Streak. But my ride tonight on it felt like I was on a jackhammer.

Keep the trains, cut off the lap bar and replace it with something comfy from B&M. Completely replacing the trains would be too much. Then take the trim off ofcourse and prepare for the best ejector airtme of your life.

I'm 16, and the only things I think magnum need are new trains, no trims and possible reprofiling on the turnaround.

This coaster is a classic, getting rid of the trains completely and changing the track would be too much.

Magnum trains are comfy and roomy, I would hate to see the trains changed in any way.

Chances are likely that Magnum will remain as is. I wouldn't worry.

I always mentally roll my eyes whenever I hear someone not of a large stature complaining on how painful and rough a ride is because it's not as smooth as a souless b&m. I think coasters are more fun when they aren't totally smooth, gives more of an out of control feeling.

I think I was being over-dramatic when I called b&ms soulless tbh. I love b&m's, but I hate how people think that a ride sucks if it's just a little less smooth than them. Well, the new ones at least. Even raptor is starting to rattle with age, and I'm a not a big fan of THAT kind of roughness.
