Magnum is sinking!

Just got back from the park today. It appears that there are going to be four rather large footers for this thing. The concrete on the first two was poured. It was weird to see them doing this in the middle of the day. At the rate there going the other two will be poured by tomorrow. It will take about three weeks for the cement to cure. Then we may see vertical construction?
The foot print is very small. I wonder if that will be the "station" and the other parts will go over the race track.
I'll post a complete TR tomorrow.

I curious to see the price, and whether it there will be a quanity discount, or just one flat fee per rider.

I say put a bungee-jump ride in and hang it off Magnum, that would be so cool!

Does anyone know what CP plans on calling this thing. And why have they NOT had a press release on this yet? It's not like we can't see them building something!!

There has probably been no Press Release because advertising won't go into affect until next season. It's a prototype, so by the time they get people hyped up about it all the bugs will be worked out. That may be the reason they chose to build it in mid season too.

Perhaps they don't want hype. They want people to be "suprised" that something new is there!
I still like "Over The Top" for the name!

The rumored opening date was August 1, so maybe they will combine the press release of the ride and the announcement for the 2002 improvements...

These things will wind up in just about every major park next year, much like the Skycoaster. PGA and Knott's have also cleared land for one. Although I suspect that the ride will be absolutely insane, this isn't something that will be exclusive to SFMM or CP in the least.

Without saying too much, something else happens to riders durring the ride that no one has mentioned in this thread so far.

But CP will have the bragging rites. Which matters a grate deal for advertising. Did they ever advertise for Ripcord?
Aren't the riders also flipped over to face there fear of the ground?

I've heard that it shoots the riders higher than the towers themselves (thus over the top) and then it flips them over.

I believe there was some mention of something like that, Joe, in the WIRED magazine article. Something like what you said, but then it shoots them down head first, maybe? I will have to find the article...

According to Screamscape's spies, they say that the prototype would shoot the riders up about 300 ft. and then they'd have the nosedive to the ground. (Just like VorTeX says). So there will be a nosedive, but it won't start with one.

Straight from the WIRED article that Mikey mentioned...
S&S is also at work on a yet-unnamed tower ride scheduled to debut this spring. People will be strapped into harnesses, parachute-style, shot up 300 feet, and then inverted for the free-fall down. "It's absolutely insane," Stan says, smiling. "I can't believe people will even want to ride it!"
