Cedar Point Removing Good Times Theatre

If Waldameer can build a coaster that goes over a state highway, then Cedar Point certainly COULD build a coaster that goes over perimeter road.

You also have to drive under Magnum in order to park at Hotel Breakers.

You also walk under it twice. Once going to Soak city/Challenge Park. The other for going to the other side of Challenge Park. :)

Maybe they can keep the ice show. They can build a temporary outdoor rink! If the NHL can have a outdoor game in Dodger Stadium, I'm sure CP could manage a small rink for Snoopy on Ice.

^I'm kidding.

While there will be some who miss the ice show, I think this is a good move for the future of the park. Depending what they put there. But with the assumed future removal of Cedars, and possible re-routing of the road, it's quite obvious they are opening a large chunk of space.

What will go there? Mammoth coaster? Expansion of the Blue Streak Midway? The world's largest ball of twine?

Also, I hope they keep the Dodgems around.

Whatever goes in that space will most likely not happen until 2016 or later. This year is Rougarou, new pavillion and Breakers renovations.

^^ I agree buddy. Please don't take out Dodgems! I will protest just like I would for Shoot the Rapids if they took that out. :)

I think Dodgems could easily be moved if they wanted to. It doesn't take up much space at all so there are plenty of places they could put them.

Yes, Dodgems are probably movable but they better stay somewhere in the park.

I just don't think Luminosity is in a good location. It seems very forced into a very small section of midway. I feel like the area should be much larger, it gets way too crowded. In addition, a bigger venue where they could host other events such as the Carly Rae Jepson show would be perfect. There's nothing like that in the park.

I don't really see a need to enlarge the space. It works fine the way it is. It's only a slight bottle neck towards closing time but I never have any major problems getting through and I enjoy getting a snippet of the show as I pass even though I prefer not to sit through it. Enlarging something that is used once a day doesn't seem to make sense when it works well the way it is. I'm not sure I see the point in having a large music venue in the park for established acts.

Considering dodgems like the ones at Cedar Point are a dying breed in this country (and they took the other ones out for Dragster), you better believe they need to leave theirs in.

The point I guess I'm trying to make is that it could be used for other things. It can be used more than once a day, you could have other shows going on throughout the day. It doesn't just have to be a venue for music acts, but other parks like Kings Island have the capability to host larger sized concerts and it seems to work for them. Cedar Point was probably testing it out with Carly Rae Jepson and what they probably found was that they needed a bigger venue.

They are going to use the area now occupied by the Good Time Theater and Cedars Dorn for prefered parking. With the Marina Gate already there they will rake in a mint at $45 a car.

As for the fireworks, why couldn't they launch them at the same distance from the marina as they always have, just west/southwest instead?

If you're talking the big commercial fireworks, the only real issue is making sure people are far enough away to not pose a safety threat. The general rule of thumb is that for every 1 inch of shell (mortar), the spectators have to be at least 70 feet away ... Now I haven't seen one of their shows in person, but judging from photos, it looks like CP uses up to 10 inch in size; Therefore, you would need a little over 2 football fields length in all directions ... Fallout, such as on buildings, or in this case, boats, can be a factor sometimes as well, but that's usually minor and I doubt it would come into play.

I would think boats would be a very big factor! (Considering Disney has had two building fires in the past year...one on the Little Mermaid ride and the other on the Seven Dwarves Mine train).

It's highly unlikely that those fires were caused by fallout from typical "display" fireworks ... Not sure, but I'm guessing Disney probably uses special kinds of pyrotechnics depending on what the attraction is, and they either were put off too close to something that was flammable, there was a malfunction, or both ... The only problem I see with the boats at the CP marina would be somebody just wanting to bark about the tiny chunks of cardboard or plastic that could possibly come down on them, which would be miniscule at worst ... Been shooting professionally for 15 years and have yet to see a case where any damage or harm was caused by it.

The liability issue with the boats is why Cedar Point probably currently shoots their fireworks off from the beach behind the Preferred Parking section, on the opposite (north) end of the peninsula away from the Marina.

Ya, I'm thinking shooting off fireworks over a few hundered boats loaded with gas isn't the safest idea.....

I'm guessing you haven't been to Magic Kingdom lately.
