Cedar Point Removing Good Times Theatre

My understanding is that Mantis and Iron Dragon have to shut-down to allow the show to go-on.

Doesn't seem logical that if you could, one should move the stage to a position that allows two coasters to remain open?

I can see them moving the Luminosity stage somewhere on the water. If you've been on or seen pictures of Royal Caribbean's Allure of the Seas or Oasis of the Seas ships, they have an "aquatheater" open to the water at the stern of the ship on the "boardwalk" themed area. This can give a good illustration of how awesome a stage/show right on the water can be. I like the idea of moving it to where the Oceana building is now- that way the large areas opened up by demolishing the Cinema and Cedars can be left unimpinged for something major. Also would be good to not have to close Iron Dragon etc. early for the show. Not the end of the world to see the cinema building go, but it was always the thing to do when it poured all day to go see an IMAX movie there.

I think you may be overestimating the resulting difference in distance resulting from a fireworks show on that side. Looking on a map, it would be absolutely trivial to just move the launch point a bit further off the shore so that the boaters are no closer than they already are.

As for the complaints about ash, wasn't the RR already there when those complainers started docking their boats there?

Lets say if the stage was moved to about where the main lobby is for Cedars, not much fallout would make it out to the boaters in the marina. The minimal amount of fallout from close proximity pyro at those heights would probably fallout in the parking lot and on the roof of Famous Daves before making it to the boats. Plus the chance of it happening would only be if there was an east, north east wind.

Disney should know, if you want moss to grow on something just spray it with a mixture of moss and milk then stand back and watch. Trouble is, hot sun, which Florida has plenty of, will get rid of moss in a hot second, so there is that...

Then wouldn't they have to close Giant Wheel, WindSeeker, Wicked Twister, and possibly GateKeeper for the show?

Are you confident that it wasn't the in-park stuff that lit the fires? Wind out of the north, which would push the debris in that direction from the primary fireworks, is pretty rare. A lot of wind in any direction is pretty rare without a well-organized system moving through (we almost never hear our wind chimes, unfortunately).

Absolutely, but as opposed to residents that move next to an existing amusement park and then complain about the noise, it is not readily apparent or obvious that the train engine will drop ash on some of the boats. I don't find it much of a problem but others find it more annoying.

I have better memories I guess. I loved the old building, the breezeways, the post office, and most of all direct access to the park anytime. (which came in handy just about every night for stumbling back to the dorm from the Circus) And I could give myself 5 minutes to get to work in the morning if I had to.

Well, got to say that I agree with you on the convenience of living there. A lot of Saturday mornings when we had a load of company picnics, (I did catering) I had to be at work at 5am to prep. Starting early saved me a lot of time by being able to drive on the midway.

Wow, I forgot about the Post Office! The couple that ran it were so cool! They knew everyone by name. There were times that I had mail and she would shout to me as I happened to be walking by.

What are the odds that there are three of us here, these many years later, that were employees back on that exact day. Since this is a fan-specific site maybe not so slim, but I'm still a little freaked out about it.

When we all meet someday I'll tell you the stories of how I tried to get MYself fired. From standing up through the entire course on the last train of Blue Streak (we did that all the time), to coming out dead drunk from the Ballroom after a thursday night dance and passing out in the grassy area in the center of Cedar Downs. Then there were late night beach activities that aren't suitable to print here.

That's just nuts! Tom Cain here. I did catering for John Albino from 74-77. Back then, most folks were scared to death of Albino. He operated via Winning Through Intimidation. One of the many times I had to go to his office after seeing the CP Police Chief to retrieve my id, Albino asked "I don't scare you, do I?" Nope. He did get a little pissed at me one time though for tearing the awning off a concession stand with the 1 ton food service truck! Overall, we had a great relationship. Tried making contact with him a few years ago after his falling out with Cedar Fair, but, failed.

Yes, standing on that last Streak run of the night was always a blast!!!

Do they still do weekly dances in the Ballroom? I hope they never remove the Arcade building. That's a historic landmark.

I am. The pyro shot in park burns out too quick to make it over to mine train. If the wind was high enough to move it fast before the pyro burned out, then the wind would have been too high to shoot the pyro.

I agree that the current Luminosity location is less than ideal. It creates quite a bottleneck in its current spot, and the Iron Dragon backdrop is awkward and impractical considering that the ride has to close during shows.

But wouldn't moving the setup incur a large cost? I realize much of it is modular, but they would still have to do a lot of redesigning of the midway (not to mention repaving, relandscaping) and heavy hauling of the various show components.

The truss is really the only thing that would be easily movable, most of it is removed for the winter to begin with. The stage itself is pretty much all concrete so that would be a high cost right there just to build another one.

And lets not forget all the underground conduits.

Any move would be for the long-term so the cost concerns are not so great.

The existing setup, from the number of tables and chairs for guests, VIP sections, wine and beer areas, simple bleacher seating, to the absurd pathway through the middle of the performance area, poor screen visability at the edges, awkward and limited stage space, shutting down rides, and limited food and drink accessibility all point to a re-working being in order.

And it's not as if they would have to remove everything. Obviously some stuff would have to go, but the base of the stage (for example) could be repurposed for a smaller-scale show.

I've heard that the Cedars has already been removed and they are rerouting Perimiter Road. Can't see anything on the webcams to confirm, but at least thats what I have heard....

I'm going to participate in the Santa Hustle, I'll take a look and report back, unless someone confirms before then.

Ya, can't see anything on the webcams, but I did here they were going to be taken down. I think eventually, there will be a new roller coaster, or hotel...
