The Banshee "puzzle" is too much a coincidence to be a mistake.

It fits a wing coaster; but it could just as likely be an inside joke for CP fans as well. Nothing has been trademarked yet. :)

Banshee would be great as it would have in 98 or whenever Mantis was built. It's a really cool name

You may be on to something with the "Banshee" decipher. I surely hope CP didn't think it couldn't be deciphered!! Now we know how the codebreakers of WWII felt whenever they cracked a German or Japanese transmission....Great job Bigmal.

Incredible... no way that's a coincidence. And the fact that there is no trademark makes it that much more believable.

EDIT: More believable that it's just a joke, that is. Well played.

Even if "Banshee" is the correct translation of @!!$!(*%%, it probably won't be the coaster's name. Mantis was originally going to be called Banshee back in 1996, and CP scrapped it.

Hey guys! Did you know that Mantis was originally going to be called Banshee? Cedar Point changed it at the last minute!

EDIT: I just wanted to join in on the fun of saying it again in this thread.

Times have changed. I don't know how the public viewed the name in the 90's, but people today wouldn't find this name offensive or whatever. It is just a good name for a coaster.

Man, does Pointbuzz deserve a cookie or what? :) Too bad Coastermania was today, too late to wear a Banshee 2013 shirt.

I think orange track with silver supports and silver or red rails

Call it sidewinder, sand demon, bearded dragon, hippogriff, gargoyle, pegasus, djinn, raiju, terrordactl

Terrordactyl would be awesome!

... It would keep up with the dinosaurs theme too!

I like that they had a problem with 'Banshee' but had 'Demon Drop' for many successful years.

Excellent job on getting Banshee out of that. It certainly works with the flying coaster, also I'm sure Cedar Fair already has Banshee trademarked explaining why no trademark yet. If i recall right, we heard the Maverick trademark name well before they announced it.

Did Cedar Point trademark the name before officially changing it to Mantis, and they still have the trademark?

Steel Force is being removed so Disaster Transport can go in its place! All of this just to get the ride sign back for the new ride next year! ;)

They no longer hold the trademark; several companies own the trademark for various purposes. In fact I believe there a ride at Holiday World called Banshee (maybe?).

Since Becca put it as a post on the CP blog, I'm actually starting to think this may be it...it does fit, after all.

So what color is a Banshee?
