I think the Hampton Inn or the Fairfield are your best bets. They range in the $79 to $139 range. Fairfield Inn & Suites hands down is the best hotel in Sandusky. If you want to look at ratings for all 40 hotels in Sandusky, her ya go. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g50940-Sandusky_Ohio-Hotels.html

If you want cheap, but decent accommodations, I would recommend the Maples Motel on Cleveland Road or one of the cabins at Bayshore KOA Campground. I also stayed at the South Shore Inn one time and had good luck with a room there, and the rate was good.

I have found that all the hotels on 250 are either overpriced, nasty, or a combination of both.... Just my 2 cents.

^What...your feet turning black when you walk around your room barefoot is not normal/common for a nice hotel??

I can second the cabins at the Bayshore KOA. I stayed there opening weekend and they were pretty nice. I searched in vein for a hotel for Coastermania yesterday. I ended up booking with Rivers Edge Inn in Huron because it seemed to have alright reviews for a decent price of $70 a night.

I had to book a room for 4 of us last week and got two full beds at Comfort Inn for $99 AFTER tax. I think a room for 2 was like $10 cheaper. It's about 4 miles away from Cedar Point though.

The Econo Lodge is an excellent place to stay for an affordable price and is 2 miles from Cedar Point.

I've stayed at Super 8 a couple of times (the one near route 2, not near the Turnpike). I don't remember it being expensive and it was always clean. The breakfast wasn't bad either.

I looked into it and Breakers Express was going to run $130 a night. I'll take the room that's nearly half the cost and only 10 minutes further away.

Try the LaQuinta Inn. It was recently remodeled.

Stayed at the Maples over the weekend. Two double beds $58. Clean room, dated decor, but who cares. It added to the charm. The staff is extemely friendly. Free coffee and doughnuts. Outdoor pool too.

^^ When was that remodeled? I am just curious because when i stayed there in October, they still didn't update to La Quinta standards.

attending coaster mania this weekend and I have two questions.
1. The Maples Motel, do the rooms have AC?
2. is the Knights Inn at 2405 Cleveland a good place to stay?

The hotel itself is fine (stayed there 2 years ago), though certainly nothing special. However, if you're a light sleeper, beware - the train passes by on what seems like an every-five-minutes schedule, and it is pretty damn loud. But if you sleep like a rock, you may not be bothered by it.

The Maples has A/C. It too has trains nearby. You do hear them.My wife who is a light sleeper survived the trains with no complaint.

I just stayed at Roadway Inn and found it to be quiet. They have free WiFi, AC (which was turned on before I got there). Mini-Continental breakfast, free newspaper. I think I paid $55 a night on Memorial Day weekend.

The only one I would say I would definitely never stay at again was the Value Inn. It was nasty. Room was very dirty, drywall was falling apart, the bathroom floor was wet when I got there. I couldn't get out of there fast enough. That's the one that typically shows up as cheapest on Orbitz.

The other one that I've stayed at a few times and liked was the Sandusky Inn. It was clean, Quiet and has a Continental Breakfast. When I stayed there last year, I got a good deal. The pricing there seems to be a bit higher this year.

Which Roadway inn? The one on cleveland or milan? The one on Milan has dirt cheap prices this coming Saturday ($65 for a King), I may jog over and stay this Saturday night IF the weather starts cooperating.

I think I'm going to give the one on Milan a try. It's about $10 cheaper, though, at the same time, that concerns me. Hopefully it's not right next door to a railroad track or all night club :)
