So exactly how does this work, and typical when does it happen? I know that if I get hired as a ride host I'm willing to start working opening day, so does that mean I go up a week early to train or just go on the weekends before. Since I'm in college I can't be there during the week until the second week of june, only weekends during may. Thanks for you help!

Because of the start date being so late (MAY (sorry about the earlier typo) 16th) I would imagine that most of the employees will start that week, training and cleaning. If you can't arrive until later, Park Op staggers training and in processing through out the summer.

I think that was just a typo.

If you can't come until June, thats not usually a problem as long as you're willing to stay on a little past when most of the college kids go back to school.

I am guessing you go to OSU? There is nothing wrong starting in June, there are a lot of students that do that. If you can't start until the 2nd week of June, then that is when you start. Plain and simple.

Well I can start sooner, but only on weekends until school gets out, and yes I do go to OSU.

If they need people bad enough they will. It doesn't take much to train someone to do some of the positions they have. I mean come on, look at the ride pride.

How early can you process in and train as a ride host?

If your willing to come up Cleaning Week then probably April 27th, however you won't be able to train. When you have your interview you'll talk with your Area Manager and assign your dates for your contract.

On training...you'll be trained whenever you're needed. When you get to Cedar Point you'll be with your crew at your ride from Mon.-Fri. the week before the park opens for training week. I believe it's from 10-7. Throughout the season, people will be moved around and trained at different ride locations depending on staffing and this can happen at anytime any day. You'll have to come in early and get trained, it doesn't matter the day.

So even if you're not starting till June, can you come process in and claim your dorm room early? Like April 27th?

No. You'll have to process in and get your dorm when you come in June. Basically they don't want you there unless your working.

And training days vary depending on when the rides become available. Last season we started training at Ripcord on Thursday when the ride opened the Friday evening before opening day. I remember both towers kept going down mechanical, so training was rather slow paced. We did some flight suiting training at the indoor Breakers pool that Wednesday afternoon, but anyone who was around earlier than that got to experience the beauty of work crew. Cleaning the beach and Soak City suck. A lot. Starting the season with a nasty case of athlete's foot is not pleasant.

Training at Skyscraper just involved giving a bunch of lifeguards rides the evening before we opened. I like to believe we used lifeguards because nobody would care if one of them flew off. :)

Training week in rides is fun, if you have maintaince clearance, you get to ride a lot, and just learn a lot of new things. Get to do things in slow pace, and take it easy.

Hey I'm a lifeguard, not at Cedar Point but at Zoombezi Bay, and I resent that LOL :)

CJ, that sounds great, I know that at Zoombezi Bay this past summer we always got to ride the slides in the mourning before we opened, the best perk of the job!

It wasn't just lifeguards it was TLs around the park as well. I remember my TL coming back from riding it and saying "Bill Spehn asked me to ride Skyscraper and I did and I loved it"...this was when I was contimplating riding it. It's a great ride, especially at night.

Well technically it was open to any employee who wasn't working or was asked to come, but since Soak City had just closed, it ended up being about 90% lifeguards. I actually got off work at 5 that day, and training started around 7, but I was so excited I came back in to work the moment I got a text that training was going to start. Of course, Ripcord/Skyscraper employees got to skip the line in the name of "training" so I rode three times. :)
