Idea for new name for midway

Top Thrill Dragster

Thursday, February 6, 2003 4:38 PM
Dragster, Power Tower, and Corkscrew make up the three colors of America. Wouldn't it be cool if it was called the America midway? Just think, if someone wanted to ask where Top Thrill Dragster was (not that they couldn't see from wherever they were), then the answer would be, "The American Midway" I think it sounds pretty cool.

It would extend from right under the first corkscrew on Corkscrew all the way down to the Magnum entrance, which it then turns into the Magnum/Gemini Midway.

Wouldn't that be cool?

They could also call it the Drag Strip.

Boy, here comes a member that talks about how it should be called america's midway, and the first 3 posts basically toss him aside. I love America's Midway much more than Drag Strip, because drag strip isn't original. Oh boy, a drag strip is actually the strip of road the dragsters race on. Is the coaster racing on where people walk? Nope. Plus in the time of war, the colors speak for themselves in America's midway. The park is already called america's rockin' roller coast. Amerca's midway outdoes "drag strip" with ease.

America's Midway is a fantastic name for that section of walkway for the park!

Americas midway?! Thats all we need, more stuff named after that. And keep in mind its right next to canada, so they should have a canadian midway too.

I think they're both great, but I would expect Drag Strip more than American Midway if these were the choices for it to be changed. That midway already had red (Magnum), white (Power Tower), and blue (Corkscrew) which pretty much takes away American Midway.

My idea just popped into my head as I read the initial post. Although it's not the actual thing that the coaster will "drive" on, it is the concrete just parallel to the launch. America Midway is okay, but IMO it's not as catchy as the Drag Strip.

Lets not make CP into another Epcot. We dont need midways named after different countries.

AnswerMan, I was referring to the track. Plus if America had a 4th color it was be yellow.

I think that Gemini would still have a healthy portion of midway devoted to it if we were to refer to the Dragster area as something different. Its midway starts just past Magnum and Dragster, includes Camp Snoopy, the games area, and the whole length of Gemini, all the way back to the train tracks. Back in the day Gemini was the only thing in this area, but that has vastly changed with the introduction of PT, Magnum, and now Dragster.

Or some sort of green? I think "The Strip" would be better.

I agree with Brent01. It's always been Gemini Midway (even after Magnum was built!) and being an old fart, I don't see much reason to change it.

American Midway is Jim Westland's web site, and Midway America is a themed area at Hersheypark...

I thought the Gemini midway extended from the railroad track across the back of the park to approximately Magnum, then from there up to the front gate was all Main Midway.

If you're gonna call it something else, how about Speedway or Raceway. Drag Strip is a name that certain people might misinterpret....... :)
