Would Gas prices hurt CP??

I think Cedar Point should open up a gas station right there at the point...they should fight to keep the prices down so that only people who attend the point that day can access the gas station...then, when you need fuel for your ride home, you're all set without having to worry about high prices...Cedar Point makes more profit and there business stays unhurt because the people who make the trip know that they can fill up their gas tank for a low price...It's a win-win situation
Yeah, until other gas stations bond together and take them to court for monopolizing gas. It's just like Microsoft including Internet Explorer within Windows and all the other companies like Netscape had to lose money by offering them for free when they used to charge money for them

It really doesn't matter to me cause even if I can't drive because of high gas prices. it will only take me not even an hoiur to walk there then catch the bus into work

I don't think a Cedar Point gas station would be considered a monopoly. They have hotels on the peninsula and that isn't a monopoly. In fact, as I remember there was a gas station at one time.

I suspect at least part of the reason there isn't one now (and probably won't be in the future) is the cost of operating a station for half a year and the space it would eat up in the parking lot. Don't forget all of the expensive environmental rules for underground gas tanks. Besides, do you know how little gas station owners make on a gallon of gas? Then add merchant account fees for using Visa and MasterCard. Gas stations make their money in convenience store and lottery sales.

I can see the lines now ... thousands of cars, 16 pumps :)

I remember seeing some rather high prices last summer. Sometimes near $3.00 in Sandusky. I have also noticed that during the summer Sandusky gas prices tend to be a little higher, obviously because of tourism. However, CP still had some rather large crowds. I do think though that gas prices had some effect of the decrease in attendance last year.

Sandusky has higher gas prices year-round. I get gas 3-4 times a week, so I'm able to see a lot of different stations and a lot of different prices. Right now the Sandusky area is running about 10ยข/gal more than the west side of Cleveland.

I'm not sure where you get gas, though, because I never saw anything remotely close to $3.00 last year.

I am not sure how much gas is in Sanduky right now.  But if gas prices are that bad there it doesn't show here in Toledo.  Right now gas here is $0.98/gallon.  And all through out the summer gas prices here are way cheaper than Sandusky.  I don't see the prices here jumping really high in the near future or in Sandusky.  I never saw gas there at $3.00/gallon last summer.  If you notice the gas stations aren't the only places in town that raise thier prices once the season starts anyways.

Gas by me is still $1.09/9thcent by CP time i'd say bout $2.OO and in Oregon RTE.2 at the Kroger gas when it was  $2.50 in 2000 it had the price of $1.07. And I live in Detroit!

Exactly what I was thinking. :)

well, gas at my usual gas station (Dean's Place on Marblehead) is right now about $1.15, which isn't too bad.

back to the topic::

But for me personally,

no, first off I don't pay for my gas, second, I have a subaru which gets the greatest gas milage around, and third I can drive down to the end of the Marblehead pennsulia, and swim (lol, watch the trolls jump on this one) to CP, or I could hop on my Jet Ski and be there 12 min. to be exact. or hop in my boat and be over there in about 40. So for me no, but I can see that for the majority of you, or the general public, it might hurt a little, but we are die hards, so we don't care what the price of gas is, Do we?? lol

I didn't say it was $3.00 but close. but i did get gas at $2.75 last summer at the BP. Can't remember exactly when.  It was one time because I had just enough gas to push the pedal once and coast into the station.  I usually buy at Meijer.  The prices there tend to be cheaper if not equal.

Ok for those of you that can't seem to find cheaper gas. I bought gas in Sandusky last summer (2001) and 2000. In 2000 and 2001 I paided as much as 1.45 for gas at B P on Perkins and Rt. 250  and then I learned that if you take the 10 min drive Down Perkins Ave to the Friendship Sunoaco or the Rye Beach Road Shell. They always had gas between 1.00 and as high as 1.25 that was as high as the Gas got in both 2000 and 2001 So you might want to try going that 10 mins and getting it for a little cheaper....

Time to bust out the supply and demand curve.

Low gas prices (assuming the supply form OPEC and others is constant) means demand is not as high. People are certainly not traveling as much as before 9/11 which is why gas prices have been at their lowest point in several years.

So if gas prices are low this means people are not traveling. Higher prices means people are traveling (more demand). If I were CP, rising gas pries may just be a good sign!

I lived in Sandusky for four years and gas there has always been more expensive than the state average.  My guess is there is an additional gas on tax in either Erie County of the City of Sandusky/Perkins Township.

To the topic at hand, I don't think gas prices will hurt one bit.  Americans cannot go without their cars.  In fact, we seem to be buying the most uneconomical cars possible these days.  SUV sales are way up and the gas mileage on those things is pathetic.

We have the cheapest gas in the world but we still complain about it.  We even go to war over it.  Go figure!

Yes it does seem kinda piddly to be whining over something like gas prices especially when they are higher in other parts of the world as Cheif Wahoo just stated.

"I;'m Just popping In To Say Hope You're Enjoying The Show Bye For Now."

Gas around here for me ranges anywhere from $1.03-$1.25 per gallon...It's not too bad...But I'm also about 15-20 minutes from the ambassador bridge into Canada and right near the bridge are duty free gas stations(tax free for those that don't know what that means)...If I'm ever pushed for money I will just go there...or cross the border into Canada to fill up because you get more for your american buck... :) I know that gas prices won't effect my getting to Cedar Point even if I have to hitchhike the whole 2 hour drive...

I think you're right about a tax, but It is a township tax, because Huron gas is always not as expensive as the gas in sandusky, however, if I have to stop by Meijer for some reason, I always fill up there, cause it's usually pretty cheap.

The local paper (Columbus Dispatch) had an article this week on rising gas prices and it was stated that we would not see prices as high as they went last year (which was still under $2). Seems to me that this isn't much of an issue as the originator of this thread indicated. Now if you lived in England they are paying the equivilent of around $5 a gallon. That is why you don't see many cars with something larger than a 4 cylinder engine over there (or many other places in Europe).

Has anyone seen the price of gas today? It hit $5.00 per gallon here in Michigan.
