I live in Ypsilanti, mi. I have heard that gas would be going up to 3.25 a gallon by June. Then stay at 3.00 by fall. Now that alot of money just going to CP Plus I also work at a place called Shiloh making parts for the BIG 3. I know if prices go up any higher, people will stop buying cars and not go no wheres. Just want to see what U guys says, thanks.
Me, personally, I will Get to the Point even if I have to travel by rowboat (it's possible) I pretty much have to budget a tank of gas to and from anyway. So I put aside a bit more money. With a season pass I am saving so much money anyway. That's an interesting question for others though. Some travel a long way. I would hate to think that gas prices could slow/crash the amusement industry.
We's guys says thats good grammerz iz ur friend...
Any way, yes I'm sure that the prices will have some effect on Cedar Point's business, but nothing too drastical.

"No, you're going in alone. I get enough flaming toilte paper thrown on me at home."
I think it will effect the ones(us)that goe thre alot. I for one,go there on the spur of the moment quite often. With gas prices going that high,it will hinder me some. Since I live about 2 1/2 hrs away.
I don't think it will effect people that go there once every year. It's a vacation that they set money aside each year.

2 years ago I had a Hyundai Scoupe that could get me to CP and back on 3/4th a tank of gas. The MOST it EVER cost me to fill it up (with ULTRA) was like $10.00 (7 gallon gas tank) I am now the proud owner of a gas hungry COW truck that gets me to CP and back on 3/4th a tank of gas too...except that it has an 18 gallon gas tank.
Wednesday I filled it up (wasnt empty) $22.00-went to CP-came home-filled up again-another $18.00. (1.65/gallon) Will gas prices effect my CP trip plans? Nah-I will just have to skip staying at a hotel when we go to have the $$ for gas. Too bad I couldnt ride my horse to CP!
Why do dogs lick themselves and why do gas companies raise their prices in the summer?

That's one of those things that probably won't hurt the admissions but it may do nasty things to in-park spending. We have to buy gas...we have very little choice in the matter. Unfortunately, we can't increase our income to cover the higher fuel price. So we economize where we can. For me, it doesn't mean I don't go to the park, but it does keep me out of the overpriced shops and restaurants once I get there.

Who hasn't bought a drink at CP in three years...
Not to turn this thread into a polictial debate but....The gas companies will keep screwing us until we say NO MORE...All we have to do is not buy gas from the two major compaines....exxon and mobil which have now merged. The problem does not lie overseas but here at home.
And who does Exxon and Mobil serve their gas too? Cuz, I'd be more than willing to bet it's not just Exxon and Mobil stations.
If you can get me the list of all the companies that receive gas from them, then you might have a plan.
And if I might say, I think the problem lies in the fact that we're using gas at all. More research funding needs to go into alternative fuels.

Here's another interesting concept. My dad works at a golf course. When times get bad and people get laid off, business gets better. When times are good and jobs are plenty, business gets worse. When the economy is bad, people have more time for recreation because they can't work as much.
Would this apply to CP? Considering how expensive it is, maybe not.

expensive, a little, but it's no more than going golfing. Play 18 holes with a cart at a decent course and you'll spend 30-40 dollars. Say it takes about 5 hours to play the round. That's half the time you could spend at CP for about the same amount of money. I don't think parks are more expensive than other leisure activities, if you do it right. I usually save money at the parks by either taking food with me, or limiting myself to one or two meals in the park, rather than snacking on all of the "fair" food, as I call it.

I know some high school students on this board watch "Channel One News" every day at school and so do I. I saw something interesting (maybe last week) about the gas prices. They said that the problem wasn't overseas because the average price per barrel of oil is right where it should be. What it did say was the problem is the lack of oil refineries. If this is the case, why don't the just build more refineries???? They also said the average profit from gas stations has increased by 30% or something-so it sounds like they're just taking advantage of this situation.
All I can say is I hope they get this problem fixed by February 19 next year so I can drive without the gas being so dang expensive. :)

Trim brakes-a necessity???
Yes it will hurt attendance at the park this summer. After getting hit this past winter with high natural gas prices, and if most of you are like me on a budget bill and are still paying for this past winter, now you have the double whammy of high gasoline prices. Most working families are on a budget. A friend of mine runs a KOA campground in Pa and he is already receiving cancellations on reservations he has received for this summer. And yes chris your right. Until members of both political parties get on big oil to stop their price goudging, and screwing us our economy will falter and we will go into a recession. I saw it happen in the 70's. Only this time its a replay of it.
I had absolutely NO problem with the natural gas nightmare from this past winter. I have an all electric house specifically to avoid ANY natural gas bills. I had pity on anyone who got slaughtered this winter by the natural gas companies. Unfortunitely there's no way around gasoline prices for anyone.

Me and my family have been going on a big summer vacation every other year. Both my parents are teachers, so we usually take the whole vacation off to bo back east (we live in CA, and have family in Virginia, Georgia, and Michgan). This could very well be the last big summer vacation that we take, due to gas prices (cry). lol. Well, at least I talked my parents into going to Cedar Point this summer!
we won't be able to go if gas is any higher
Not enough oil refineries? I watched Channel One also, but I know the real reason: Supply and Demand. There is a demand for oil and the oil companies have a supply of shady business practices! So simple!

I'll disagree with all of those who feel the gas prices will hurt CP attnedance. I think it will hurt "other" parks but CP has been an annual event for a large number of families in the Midwest. I feel the gas prices will keep these families and others "home" this summer. You will see more cars with four and more peolpe in them to pool together to the Point. I believe families will use CP as the BIG summer trip vs. driving out west or to some other attractions.
As for us "regulars" I think you will see the same thing...less trips to "other" parks with more trips to CP being with addition peolpe in the car to share expenses.
Time will tell...
With all the goings on in the world today, I don't think that the rising gas prices will hurt travel to Cedar Point. There have been some declines in the airline travel industy, though I don't believe we have seen the full effect of them yet. I think that there will be a lot more travel to driveable vacation destinations this summer vs families taking to the air. This is all just my 2 cents though.
Given this topic was started during the last summer, I think it may have hurt CP in the long run. People didn't want to spend the money of gas on top of a $40 ticked per family member to get into a park. But as far as this upcoming season goes, gas prices, my guess, will stay low this summer. This is probably due to 9-11 and the low economy. The gov't wants people to get out and travel and spend on vacations and go places and spend spend spend!
