Winter Scenes

I just want to thank Jeff and Walt on how much they've worked to get some of us overly obsessed people through the offseason. I swear it's a sickness! :)

It looks so quiet on the midways this time of year. I couldn't imagine walking down the Main Midway and not hearing the sound of music or Raptor running overhead. Very nice pictures!

It really is a different feel of a park in the off-season, especially with snow on the ground. I used to get an off-season tour every now and again during the mid nineties with Janis, actually the last time was a preview of Mantis... I should look for some photos.

I love looking at these pictures!! It makes me excited for May!

I love off season pictures as well. I can't wait to see the rest, especially Main Midway and Dragster Midway. Nice job guys.

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

Props for Walt with some outstanding pictures of Cedar Point there. I admire both yours and Jeff’s contributions to improving the image of Cedar Point and grateful to have such a great website dedicated to the park I love.

I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of them.

I especially liked the closeup of Mean Streaks tracks.

Is the third picture the Wave Swinger?

ThrillRider, Im sure thats the space that the Wave Swinger goes, but apparently they take it out for the winter... I was unaware of that until just now.

Hmm... Looks like they do remove the Wave Swinger during the offseason.

Great pictures Walt and Jeff! :)

When I was there in April a few years back I remember Wave Swinger being just a wire frame at that point. I find it pretty interesting that they literally rebuild that whole ride every year.

Don't thank me... Walt did all the work. I took virtually the same photos. I might have a few to add in the other groups, but not this one.

This was the first time I've ever seen them not only strip down Wave Swinger, but actually pull it off of the foundation. Every time I can remember being there in past winters the center column remained vertical.

Hi:
I also appreciate the winter photos. (I suspect a subscription would be enjoyed at least as much as my written thanks though.)

I've always toyed with the idea of phoning CP and offering to donate some amount to charity for the opportunity to do a winter park walk-through. The pics are nearly as good, and I don't have to be cold.

Thanks again, Stimps.

1) why does Cedar Point tear down Wave Swinger?

2) Where do you think they store it?

3) Is Wave Swinger the only ride they tear down?

1) As mentioned above, it is not totally taken apart every year. This year it must be time for a large overhaull.

2) I don't know, there are many places possible. But if they wanted to keep it close to it's operational location...that limits places a bit.

3) I'm sure all rides are on maintenance schedules that require overhaulls at some point. That's why CP has been (and will continue to be) a very safe place to have fun!

Aside from the swings and cover panels, the ride didn't go more than a few feet from the foundation.

They tear down most of the flat rides. Calypso is stripped to the frame, including the floor, as is Himalaya and Matterhorn. Monster was nothing but a hub.

Most of it must be in that round building that is a haunted house ("U R Dade"?) during Halloweekends?

Walt, this would be a wonderful wallpaper:

I'd love to switch between the above and the Gemini one.

I agree. That's why I put it up in the wallpaper section last week. ;)

Doesn't look like the MF seats are getting modified, in the new pictures of the Frontier Trail.
