They made it sound as if it was a conspiracy by Cedar Fair, and that these rides are fundamentally flawed and unsafe. They "uncovered" maintenance history reports that found such problems as...
(yes, Ron Regan really said that in a very dramatic way while equally dramatic music played in the background)
Apparently they had time to kill over there.
Promoter of fog.
"A 5 On Your Side investigation obtained inspection reports in Ohio and California that detail safety issues before the rides even started up."
I imagine this involved a disgruntled government worker, stolen documents, and secret meetings at undisclosed locations.
Conspiracy theory or otherwise - why would it take over three hours just to lower the gondola? Whatever the cause of the glitch, the need for a reasonable emergency unload time is what needs to be addressed on these rides.
I am sure there is some sort of disaster plan in place at the park - especially post 9/11, but by the looks of Windseeker's track record in only the first full year of operation - this one needs (and looks like it's getting) a rework.

Safety.

Does anyone know how long it actually took to lower the gondola, after they verified nothing was actually wrong?
Many motors have a hand crank which could be used for emergency, manual operation. I wonder if one is available for this ride's lift cable.
Just say no to trims
It would be interesting to see the O&M manual for Windseeker.
F 2291:6.3.3--
The manufacturer shall take into consideration the evacuation of patrons from any reasonably foreseeable position or situation on the ride or device, including emergency stops and stops in unplanned locations.
As I suggested over on CoasterBuzz, the fact that they have not invoked some emergency procedure for an immediate lowering of the ride gondola does not necessarily mean that such a procedure does not exist or cannot be implemented. My point is that quite often the safest thing to do is let people hang there for a while. Any gondola position on the tower is a safe place to be most of the time, and if the ride controls "think" that there is a malfunction with the hoisting system, the safest thing to do might be to let it stay parked, just in case the ride controls happen to be right. Once the controls are determined to be wrong, or when suitable precautions are taken, then they can bring the gondola down and get the people off.

Well... I was going to K.I. for the second time this summer (in about a week) windseeker was closed the first time.... and now it's closed this time...
I guess i'm jumping on the TEAR EVERYTHING DOWN bandwagon when I say. Fuge it.... tear er down.
TL:DR Windseeker Sucks.
..............maybe they have some left over explosives from SS
If you look at the pictures closely you can see they are just replacing some of the weak wood with some new high quality wood. In addition they are doing a full re-tracking along with re-adding the loop.
Aaron you're just mad that I'm right and you're wrong. It's all a set-up.... oh we're tearing it down..... to fix it ;)

What a disappointment. It's a beautiful looking ride, but I hope they get this straightened out. I'm not the biggest Windseeker fan, that kind of ride isn't my cup of tea, but I understand that others like it.
But it is funny to hear the TEAR IT DOWN people now. When is the Lemon Chill guy gonna confirm it will be torn down like Dragster was going to?
I actually ran into the lemon chill guy at CiCi's Pizza in Sandusky. Apparently that is his weekday job. He told me that you're all wrong and they are adding another 100 feet to all the Wind-seekers. This is to not only fix the problem, but compete with Star Flyers. (I don't know if this is even necessary, but for those who think this is legit.... ;)
It's because it is a stupid prototype ride. They all are having mechanical problems one by one, and all within a few months in the same year. Seriously, cedar fair, and specifically cedar point, please don't order any more prototype rides. I am glad Gatekeeper is not one, so maybe it will be ready by opening day 2013, and not have major problems, so that X-flight, wild eagle at Dollywood, and Swarm at Thorpe park don't have to be shut down for inspection.
The rides caught the windseeker virus :)

So Kings Island's WindSeeker is having the same mechanical problems as the others, stranding riders?
