I haven't heard "The Amazement Park" since the 80's!

Same here. I haven't heard that slogan in a long time. However, I have seen the logo here and there in the smallest places around the park.

One of my favorites is: "Cedar Point's the Cure for the Summertime Blues!" I can still remember the song and advertisement. ;)

In the "old days" we didn't use verbal signals. It was felt that verbals coud be missed in the commotion of a loading platform. You would step back to a "safe zone" raise your hand with your thumb up. The thumbs were counted and then the ride was started, train dispatched, etc. This turned out to not be fool proof, either, as it was possible to misread signals, especially at night.

Now I'm really going to date myself here. All the speils were live, and as the "guests" exited the ride the ops said "Thank you for riding the (insert ride name).Enjoy your day at Cedar Point, where everyday is funday! The Space Spiral, Giant Wheel, CP&LE logo had just replaced the Centennial starburst, and they had just gone POP the year that I left their employ.

If I remember correctly last year on Magnum i heard "Ready Ready" every single time while waiting in the station.

I would hear "Ready" just as the train went over the hill and then "Ready Ready" just as it reached the top of the second hill. Then we would hear "Clear" right after that and the train went off.

Wierd, thats exactly what I hear, But I beleve Jo.

I dont know where, but I have seen where ops would slide there fingers into a reader to launch the train, instead of a good old button. If I was a RC builder, I would install a light system. Green light for go, red light for not ready, no go. But, I guess they know best.

As a CP employee this summer, I definitely used the "Rockin' Rolllller Coast!" spiel...and when it was raining...it was "America's Rocking Rainy Roller Coast!..or "wet".....Cedar Downs was so much fun to work.

For some reason I can only remember "America's Rockin' Roller Coast" being said for spiels.

Which, I just now remember, Michigan's Adventure added that to their spiels this year too. It sounds corny hearing "And enjoy the rest of your day, here, at Michigan's Adventure, Michigan's roller coast!"

Um, that wasn't Michigan's Adventure adding that, that was the Timbers crew getting ridiculously bored while operating and trying to add things to the spiel that didn't sound quite right to get peoples' attention. If you were there on certain days, you might have heard "Clear, launching in 3,2,1" or Gemini's spiel instead of Timbers. Yeah, anything to deter boredom... *** Edited 10/8/2004 2:48:58 AM UTC by PKevin2004***

You have to realize sometimes as ride hosts, we deviate from the spiels just a bit (although it is not permitted). I found myself saying "Enjoy the rest of your day here at Cedar Point, The Queen of American Watering Places" as well as "The Amazement Park, Rockin Roller Coast, etc..."

We had an op at the Con last year who said (every tim, I might add) "...and enjoy your ride on the Wicked Wild Gemini" during ERT.

At the turn of the Millennium, there were signs. Was the something out there?... A mysterious force at work? Beyond words. Beyond comprehension. Beyond, beyond beyond… A natural force simply known as, Millennium Force. The future is riding on it.…

The Gemini crew definately had a lot of fun playing with the spiels last summer. We would have both sides doing the spiels... "(1) Enjoy the rest of your day at Cedar Point America's Rockin, (2) Oh baby you know it's rocking, (1) Roller coast", as one example.

We usually, can't say always, tried to keep ourselves entertained as well as the guests.

or what Don likes to call the "Gem-I-Nia"

LoL...yeah, and who could forget Alan and I's.."record breaking, earth shaking, finger snapping, toe tapping....ect, ect..roller coast!".

Haha..that was always funny... I think we at one point even added.."Rain is pouring old man snoring..."

FUN TIMES..."Were going take upside down, round and round..not once, not twice, not three times...but NO TIMES AT ALL!"

I'll never forget the first ride I went on TTD. I was sitting in the train, strapped in, and waited, 10 seconds later I heard, ready ready, ahhh... good times.

To stick to the topic, I recall the TTD ride ops saying "WELCOME BACK RIDERS, HOW WAS YOUR RIDE? AT THIS TIME PLEASE LIFT UP YOUR LAPBAR AND EXIT CAREFULLY TO YOUR RIGHT. THANK YOU FOR RIDING TOP THRILL DRAGSTER, AND ENJOY THE REST OF YOUR DAY AT CEDAR POINT, AMERICAS ROLLER COAST!
