Why can't we get a fourth dimension "X" coaster?

I recently made my first trip out to LA. I decided to check out SF magic mountain in addition to the Disney Parks and Knotts (CF).
I have to say that "X" at Magic Mountain has got to be the most incredible coaster I have been on. It was unlike anything I have experienced before. Which raises the question - why doesn't the point get a fourth dimension X coaster. I know that I had read a lot about down time, but I spoke with some people there and it seems like the kinks have been worked out. CP being the Coaster park that it is should have a similar ride - when are we going to get one?
I have been to several SF parks and Magic Mountain was definitely better than the others I have been to. It could use some of the nicer CP details, but I was impressed with the number and variety of coasters that they had. CP is still #1 in my book but I went to SFMM expecting worse and came away surprised.
By the way...Knott's was nice...smaller than I expected but a good mix of theming and thrills.

DISNEYDUDE,

I agree with you totally and feel the exact same way about "X" becuase i experienced that ride for the first time myself back in July and "deja vu" was pretty killer too. My question is did you notice how "UNENTHUSED" every emplyee was there? And the park is all UPhill, DOWNhill, UPhill, DOWNhill... I agree thE rides are great but there were a few things that stood out that also keeps Cedar Point #1 in my book. Lastly, i hated how they only had 1 train running on some of the rides when i was there like Riddlers Revenge and Batman. I admit i think Riddler is better than Mantis but Raptor is better that Batman, what about you??

I want to ride a rollercaster NAKED!!

A lay-down would be nice. X flight is really cool, only it could be longer.

Goodbye 2005 season!!!!

The reason why Cedar Point hasn't installed one is because it has been proven rather unreliable. Thankfully there is a new 4-D coaster being built in Japan as we speak. S&S has reworked Arrow's original design, and hopefully it will prove much easier to manage than the original. They claim that it will be go higher and and be longer than X as well. Apparently another park wants one too.

We can only hope that the more parks who get 4-D's will give CP the proof they need that the technology can be reliable.

I would love more than anything to see a 500 foot 4-d coaster that breaks a speed record too;)

But seriously, that would be awesome to see a 4d at CP.

sorry to be a bother, but im not exactly sure what the coaster "X" really is. i mean i saw pics of it but why is it called a 4-d coaster? and what are some problems that magic mountain has had with it to make it so unreliable?

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

yes, it would be awesome, but at this point, very impractical. (unpracticle?..)

The downtime was AMAZING, to say the least. If you think TTD was bad... look out. I think the ride was ahead of its time. That scale was not originally drawn up, and it was reflected in the amazing amount of construction delay and operating delay time.

They still have "X" down once a week, wednesday if im not mistaking, for maintenance. But there is a new one being built in Japan, so I think we're all kinda hoping it is provent o be more reliable, then who knows what's in store for the 4-D model?

All I will say is that after having ridden "X" 3 times, twice in the front... those periods are about it, there are just no words.

Vince the seats are controlled by a third rail and spin 360 degrees forwards and backwards during the ride. Remembering flying down that first hill face first and then entering the giant raven turn on my back still gives me goosebumps to this day and is one of my alltime favorite coaster memories. These reports of another being built in Japan gives me some hope that we might actually see one of these at CP in the future! Ooh, goosebumps again! ;)

thanks macho nachos, sounds awesome

Exactly how does the third rail turn the seats? That's what I don't understand.

It's actually a 3rd and 4th rail, beneath the running rails... Check out this picture on RCDB, you'll see what I mean...

http://www.rcdb.com/ig750.htm?picture=25

The train runs on the inner yellow rails, while the rotation is controlled by the purple rails. The distance between the two rails varies. As the rails get closer together and further apart, a bar slides up and down from the wheels on the rotation rails through a gearbox on the train, turning the seats forward and back. In the above picture look to the left of the seat, you'll see the gear there... I'm not sure if I'm explaining this clearly, ask if you're not sure I'll try to clear it up...

disneydude: Apparently you're not aware that X had more downtime than up in its first two year. It apparently still isn't open as much as it should be (though that's hard to tell when half of SFMM is closed on any given day).

Not to mention the horible capacity the thing gets. It gets 4+ hour waits with not a huge number of people in line. I waited 3 with a breakdown while we were in the station(that was on a tuesday). I can not imagine the line on a saturday. But it is an incredible ride, though.

The wait time is insane for X because SFMM can only run with one train and the ride ops are extremely slow at loading and dispatching the trains. But I must say, I'd wait 2 hours for X over TTD any day, sorry TTD fans :)

I saw many pictures of the ride before, but all the videos and reviews all say the rotations are very bumpy. You see the rotations in the videos and the seats are bumping every which way. The ride is a very cool concept and I'm sure time will only tell. The new 4D in Japan may open up the doors again to the 4D concept, who knows.

I think the bumpiness wasn't bad at all Gomez. In any case I'd say the "Wow" factor definitely made it worthwhile. Its kind of like people complaining about headbanging on Raptor. Even if it headbangs a litte who cares it's still an amazing ride.

I disagree with the Raptor thing. The first 5 or 6 times I went on Raptor I hated it. I had a headache for the rest of the day. It wasn't untill I knew where the headbanging was and avoided it I finally liked the ride. It is an amazing ride now.

lots of coasters have a head banging factor, you just have to know how to control it

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

You just have to keep your head pressed HARD against the seat and the headbanging shouldn't happen!
