Whuddya think of the name?

I love the name!
Jeff is correct. Here in Detroit, it was called "Thrill Top", "Top Dragster Thrill", even CNN Headline News had it wrong. Still, it's nice to see the Park get some national attention..again. ;)

Since the first time "Dragster" surfaced, I put it out of my mind figuring it was a temporary project code name. I have to admit it has grown on me, but I find myself refering to it as "the dragster." I also feel the "Top Thrill" was a poor attempt to create a name that made a verbal impression worthy of the ride. It just doesn't work. As far as how easily it rolls off the tongue - Jeff, if you were watching the Cleveland news people, many of them have a hard time on a nightly basis with simple phrases, let alone a mild tongue twister like CP has come up with.

I just wonder if they will change the name, just for the day, on Father's Day. (I can almost imagine walking around the park all day hearing "Well, my goodness, isn't that just the biggest thing you've ever seen?")

Well everyone is going to say..."Lets go ride Dragster", not T.T.D.. People call MF the force. Does anyone know the other name that execs. decided on but was changed to dragster?

Hah... as most of you have already said, it's just going to be called "Dragster" by the general public. Noone's actually going to refer to it as "Top Thrill Dragster." The name is cool when I read it, but saying it is a bit clunky or whatever. But hey, that's fine. Everything's cool.
"flaming turd pie"

I'm still lmbo playa. I would still ride it also, and buy a t -shirt.

Maybe we should just call it "draggie", just kidden, Chief.

Jdubya, you bring up a good point. Many of CP's coasters sound better (or at least sound ok) with 'the' tacked onto the name:

'The Millenium Force' and 'The Magnum XL-200' are perfectly reasonable ways to refer to these coasters. And 'The Wicked Twister' actually makes more sense than just Wicked Twister.

On the other hand, most other parks use names that are self contained and don't need those three extra letters. Anyone ever hear someone talking about 'The Apollo's Chariot' or 'The Superman: Ultimate Whatever'? Or how about 'The Medusa' or 'The Kumba' or 'The Nitro'?

As for what I think of the new name, I may just stick with #16! 'Trop Thill Dwagster' is about as graceful as John Belushi in a school desk rolling down a flight of stairs. Fortunately, it looks like it will be just as entertaining!

The Ohio State University.
Are we all really that lazy and upset at the inconvenience of this crappy name? I think it sucks but until I think of something else to call it I'll just get over it. Maybe you won't even need to refer to it by name. Maybe they should follow the artist formerly known as and just go with a symbol. Do you think that when you're at the park that you'll even need to say the name? I think the people you're with will understand what you mean when you say "Alright, it's go time, let's do this!" or "let's hit that big mother f'er" or "(fill in the space)". You get the point. Anyways, I'm done ranting.

Peace I'm Out

I think the name is fine. It'll just end up being known as Dragster.

Just like everyone says Magnum not Magnum XL-200.

I agree with you. I like saying only Dragster, not Top Thrill.

New For 2003 Top Thrill Dragster Tallest Coaster Ever!!

I'll just be calling it Dragster. After everything I read from about October to yesterday, and all the talk about the name "Dragster" on the shipping information, it just grew on me. So to me, its Dragster, and theres nothing you can do to change my mind.

This isn't a great place to ask, but it was mentioned earlier in the topic. Is Disaster Transport actually called Dispatch Master Transport? I always thought that was the name of the transport company, but when they loose control and disaster strikes they took the dis from disaster and aster from master to form the name for this disaterous ride on a train from the Dispach Master Transport Company.

Let me know if I'm wrong.

If you don't like it, Shut Up and don't get in line.

I'm more of a fan of simple names -- Raptor, Mantis, Gemini, etc. etc. I just can't figure out what the need for all the extra stuff, like 'XL-200' or now 'Top Thrill'. Not that it really matters, it just bugs me sometimes.

I thought it was just me not being a racing fan, but so far every time I tell people the name of the ride I have to stop and explain the top fuel/top thrill part.

In my opinion CP should of just named it Dragster and lost the Top Thrill because I think Top Thrill Dragster is a dumb name but if it was just Dragster then it would be better.

If they wanted the three word name, I think "Top Speed Dragster" would have been better. I think that I will just call it "Dragster" most of the time too.

Can anyone explain how part of the real name ended up on a shipping label? Did they want people to find out? I thought only 75 people were supposed to know the name. Didn't all the workers have access to that?

I dig the name...for a themed coaster, I think its way cool, particularly if the cars end up as flashy as they look on the CP website drawing.

Having said that, I'll probably still just refer to it as "Dragster".

Steve

"Will all those who expressed disappointment at the new ride please leave the park now"

Hey, I just refer to the coasters as follows while I'm in the park (At home I get formal though :-)):

MF: Millie/The Force

Wicked Twister: Wicked Twist/Wicky Twisty

Top Thrill Dragster(huff, huff ;-)): Dragster/T.T. Drag

...and so on. Oh, in case you didn't realize by reading this, I'm back! The TSO playtest is over, so I actually can find time to do stuff other than run my second and third and fourth lives online :-)

"Thank you for riding Millenium Force, and please enjoy the rest of your day here at Cedar Point, America's Rockin' Roller Coast!"

I betcha there was a woman involved in nameing it Top Thrill.A guy would have called it topgun ,or macho blaster or flameing dragster .Sounds like a nice lady in marketing research came up with it. hmmmmm.

I'm not an old fogey, I'm just an old coaster rider..

For all you who care any!

That wasn't even the actual name they were even going to use for it!

It was going to be called ELECTRO BLAST.
Which I think would have made more sense to it all.
Unless the train is actually spose to look like a dragster car.
