Who says CP/CF can’t maintain wood?

Joe E's avatar

I think it was 2002 they did some major restructuring work that made Blue Streak go from a “meh” woodie to a really good one. Whatever happened tonight, whether it was the weather, midweek work, front loaded trains, etc, made me turn my opinions “really good” into outstanding top 10. I thought it ran better than the Phoenix at Knoebels, which many regard as the best classic out and back wood coaster.

The outbound hills were air filled as usual, but crazy intense. At The turnaround there were good laterals, and something I never quite either felt or noticed before. The drop off the turnaround there is usually good air, but nothing crazy since it’s usually going slow. Tonight it was ripping around the turn, and the drop off the turnaround felt quite "ravenish" in the back seat. The bunny hill after the turnaround drop was better than ever, and the return hills had some unexpected air.

Granted tonight prolly had more to do with the conditions than anything, but it was smooth through the process. If they can make a 30+ year old wood coaster run that well at any point, they know what they are doing.

Now just Ctrl+C and Ctrl +V on Villain and we can all stop going to Indiana and PA for wood ;).

While I agree on your viewpoints...

Why did you randomly post this?

I think it's a good post, because everyone is always saying that Cedar Fair can not maintain wooden coasters.

I hear a lot of people bashing the Blue Streak, and I flippin love it... it's definately one of my favorite coasters at CP. There is barely ever a line for it, and you can keep getting on and off without waiting. The thing is fun as hell, and it's a great classic woodie... well in my opinion anyways.

Someone could post, "what's everyone's favorite restroom," and there would be 50 replies. When someone posts something with thought, however, it's considered random?

It's always seemed to me that it's not that they can't do it, but more that they don't want to do it. It's not like Mean Streak or Blue Streak is in dis-repair though is it? I think it's a little bit more that what they do to maintain them makes the work easier on them, but may take a little away from the ride.

I think they do a great job with the woodies. Blue streak has always been one of my favorites.

if they could just do it for mean streak!

Mean Streak really is in pretty good shape. It just sucks as a ride and has an uninteresting layout. There's nothing more to fix.

Raging Wolf Bobs is another example of how much better a ride can get. It's not a great layout, but it certainly is more fun now that it has been cleaned up. Last time I ran into Bill Spehn, he mentioned that Villain was next this winter.

Look at my username. I love Blue Streak, just as much as I love maXair. Blue Streak is in my top 5 at Cedar Point, along with MF, WT, maXair, and Skyhawk.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.

I agree on RWB. I rode it a couple of weeks ago and could not believe the change in the ride. The first half is fast and forcefull, yet still very ride-able - even with those G-Trains! :)

I wish they would get bigger carts for it. The ride is awsome but my legs hurt the whole way.

Pretty good shape for being poorly designed, perhaps.

I do have to admit that I got quite an /awesome/ ride a few weeks ago with e x i t. There was actually grease on the track. It made a difference.

I had the best ride ever on Vilian last night. I was in the front seat and it was very fast and resonably smooth. This is a great coaster when it is running well. I was shocked, I got off and back in line. Then next ride was awful. Strange that there was that much difference less than 1/2 hour apart.

Wolf Bobs was also running great last night. It was a fun, fast ride. I was very pleased for the last GL visit of the season.

Blue Streak was an awesome airtime machine before they screwed up the trains with the new seats, dividers and individual seat belts. It is still fun, but not as much as it used to be.

Mean streak just freaking beats the crap outta you... i don't care for it that much, you can't just relax and enjoy it you have to concentrate and try to shift your body.

Who said they couldn't?

Blue Streak is my 3rd favorite woodie. It's air is the best besides El Toro out of the coaster's I've ridden. I also like Lightning Racer slightly better.

I would have to say, mine would be the one between Wildcat and the train station. ;)

Blue Streak does rule. I would love to see CP expand the midway somewhere in that section of the park and add another classic wooden roller coaster to the mix...possibly a remake of a ride that has been torn down years ago..

MS is a cool woodie. Sit towards the back and it will..in a way...give a nice tail whip!!!

GO BLUE!!!!
