Cheesehaven in port clinton: They have great aged cheese if you want something delicious to take home. Try the aged apple cheddar cheese. MMM

When in Sandusky, one should naturally seek out Lake Erie Perch! The perch is extremely good at the Fisherman's Catch on US 250. It is on the west side of the road, across from Corso's Greenhouse. This is less than a mile north of the Sandusky Mall.

In the mood for pizza? One word: Cameo. While others tout Chet & Matts, their product, sad to say, not in the same league. :(

Where is Cameo?

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

This is interesting... I identify cameo Pizza as being right by Cheesehaven and Bassets IGA on thr Catawba Island exit off of route 2... my parents are font of their artery clogging, grease-dripping pizzas... I guess it is something that extends beyond port clinton? (or is it a different cameo pizza?

I think Cameo Pizza originated in Sandusky. They have a restaurant on Monroe Street which I think was the first one. In addition to Sandusky and Port Clinton, they have locations in Norwalk, Huron, Fremont, Willard, Bellevue and a new one in Put-In-Bay.

I think they have excellent pizza, some of the best I've had.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Cameo did indeed originate in Sandusky, at the Monroe Street location. They have been there since at least the early 1960's. Started life as restaurant & bar, and the pizza business grew because they made a great product, and it started to outstrip the rest of the menu.

Chet & Matt's is indeed what you might call an outgrowth. There were apparently some family issues, and they went off on their own. Sandusky is a very weired town in that respect. Family businesses in Sandusky sometimes suffer from fractures, and splits, and the result is comical, as the different factions will go off & start their own businesses in the same field, and in some instances, right next door!

Some examples: Cameo/Chet & Matt's; Corso's on 250 & Corso's on Cleveland Road (also Colonial Gardens in Huron); and the strangest of all, Balconi Monuments. They are at 250 & Perkins. For many years, the competing business was 3 feet away, next door. The other one is a motorcycle shop now.

But then, what do you expect from a town where they call a short viaduct under some railroad tracks a "subway"?

I was born & raised there. Still don't fathom it. And yes, the perch downtown is also top-notch.

I'll add another recommendation for Dianna's Deli Restaurant on 250/Milan Rd. It's a great place to stop after a day at the park, especially since they're a 24-hr diner.
