Where to eat in Sandusky?

I'm looking for some suggestions of where to eat in Sandusky other than Chet & Matt's. We're going to be there for 2 nights and we're going to Chet & Matt's for dinner once, and we usually end up going to the Olive Garden, but I was hoping someone knew of some good restaurants off point that were popular with the locals. I'm looking for something more local, family run, as opposed to a chain of restaurants that I could find anywhere.

Thanks for the help

There is a Fridays, Ruby Tuesdays, there a Chinese restaurant somewhere on 250. Hope this helps you a little I usually eat at Famous Daves when Im there. *** Edited 5/19/2007 8:17:52 PM UTC by cmkbabie***

There is a place called Ryan's buffet and bakery. My family eats there every year. I know last time we went there, they had all you can eat steak for a very low price. And it wasn't that bad.

There are a couple places I would recommend. One is the Samurai Japanese Steakhouse. they cook the food hibachi-style in front of you. They also have a sushi bar there. the prices are a bit expensive, but you ARE paying for a show. Down from there on 250 east (away from CP) is a great place called Danny Boys (or Danny Bros. I can never remember). It's on the right hand side of the road. they serve family-style meals with big portions that justify the prices they charge. There are several other places too along 250, including an Outback Steakhouse. It all depends on what kind of food you like to eat. When are you going up to the Point?

I have to suggest Ryans also. When ever my family and I go. we always eat at Ryans. The food is always fresh because they sell alot. They have alot of food cooked on the grill in addition to the steaks. Might be porkchops or chicken. Always good. The steaks are good to, cooked to order. They serve breakfast on weekends and that is good also.

I've got to vote for Ryans also. Pretty good food and a decent price. If you leave there hungry it's your own fault. They're usually busy enough that their salad bar is very fresh, the hot food hasn't been sitting out too long and you'll get a nice steak just the way you want. Their desert selection is pretty good to, and they usually have both of my favorites, bread pudding and cheesecake...mmm...

There is a Ponderosa down the road on 250 as well, but you'll get a better deal at Ryans...and not everything is made from powder like at Ponderosa.

Don't forget to go to Tofts ice cream too. I'm lactose intolerant and I still make it point to go there...it's that good.

I would also recommend Samurai, we ate there last Sunday, pretty good place. It was a bit expensive, but still cheaper than the same kind of places we have around here. I believe it was in the same shopping center as Lowe's?

I suggest Margaritaville; not the one thats now in the old Chi Chi's on 250, but the one that is on Rt. 4 or 6. Great view great food.

(I have hit every buffet style chinese restaurant in Sandusky, and the worst is City Buffet.) All the others are okay though.

The one that was in the old Chi-Chi's on 250 has been closed for a couple years now...

omg chi-chis. Talk about memories. That was the worst place ever. Are they still around?

I always changed their jingle of "Chi-Chi's.....a celebration of food" to "Chi-Chi's......we recycle your food" since it always looked like they gave you what other people didn't eat. :)

Nah.. Chi-Chi's went out of business a few years ago. Our Chi-Chi's got turned into a Mexican restaurant...

...What was it before?

Ride on, MrScott!

Uh, wasn't Chi-Chi's originally a Mexican restaurant?

With a name like Chi Chi's, of course it was a German Bier Garten, duh!

Oh that's right. My bad. :)

BTW, JFGI (just f'ing Google it.) no longer just applies to computers.

Call 1-800-Goog-411, say "Sandusky, OH" and then "FOOD" - you will get a text message with name, phone number, and a Google Map to the top 8 locations.

I could be wrong, but I think when I was at CP last week I noticed that the Ponderosa's had a "For Lease" sign on it and looked pretty closed.

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

It's about time. All of the Ponderosa's around here went out 10 years ago. All the local ones were terrible. Maybe the Sandusky location is better than ours were.

Yes unfortuantly the Ponderosa on 250 closed last year. I was a shift supervisor there and there were plans to remain open but during the road construction on 250 in October, they blocked our parkinglot so we went for 4 days with pretty much no customers. They decided that it was not worth the hassle for the GREAT business we had during the summer, but the HORRIBLE business that the winter brought along.
