Where could they build Coasters in the Future?

I was just wondering where people thought that Cedar Point could build a future Coaster. I think in the back they really need one the only one worth going back there for is Mean Streak maybe a really nice B&M could fit back by the log ride or by thunder Canyon. I think that CP has been concentrating on the front of the park (MF,WT,#16) that they are starting to neglect the back. what does everybody think?
MF is in the front of the park? #16 is in the front?

There is a little ride called Magnum that is worth a visit in the back and another little ride called Gemini that shouldn't be missed - also in the back.

How far back do you want to go? Marblehead?

If it weren't for the sky ride I think #16 would have looked good right down the center of the main midway. Of course, it would have to have been built up pretty high but it works in RCT.

Sorry, By back I mean Frontiertown, Gemini is also back there and one of my favorite rides at CP. You still didn't say where you thought a new coaster would fit elsewhere in the park

Cedar Point isn't going to build any more coasters because they have a space problem. They've made a deal with the city of Sandusky to buy up a big section of downtown to turn into a parking lot. They'll expand into the current parking lot and have a monorail that runs to the park. I know this because my uncle works at Cedars Point and he told me so.

The reason I didn't say is b/c Jeff doesn't like the "space" issue and I don't like to offend him.

If the discussion is where would be a good place for a coaster in terms of guest flow and those types of things, then we can talk.

I am not an advocate of removing rides but Demon Drop might be ready for retirement or at least a relocation. I think a nice woodie setting in that area, utilizing some of the parking lot area near Kinzel's house would look great right up by the front gate.

Raptor on the midway right out there for everyone to enjoy is great and I think something similar could be done. There is the issue of Cash Control, Merchandise offices and warehouse and so forth but I am sure a good design could address those concerns.

I agree with you Chief, and I too do not like removing rides, but what about Thunder Canyon, The last time I was there it wasn't even operating I think that would be a great place for a woodie, zooming throught those trees would be great!! Darling, that would be cool but I dont see that as a possibility all the large spaces near downtown Sandusky are taken up by hotels!!:)
I think it's been mentioned before, but a good candidate would be dumping the Oceana Stadium (and, AFAIC, Ocean Motion) and putting a small twister back there to complete the overhaul of that midway. Some have mentioned dumping the Peanuts Playground as well but personally, having a young child, I find it a good place to sit down for about 30 minutes in the middle of the day.

I think you could do something OVER Thunder Canyon that wouldn't require it to be removed.
Darling, exactly how far downtown are we going for this parking lot? i dont think that sandusky is just gonna let cp put a huge monorail through all of sandusky
I think it is safe to say that Darling was trying to be endearing and was showing off his knack for sarcasm.

I have heard people talk about the space between Gemini and Mean Streak.

Feel the Beat

There is a point where they have to take out rides to put more rides in. CP has removed/moved rides to fit several new attractions, and Raptor, Millennium Force, and #16 all take the space of previous rides. CP has a lot of room, but the more thy build, the harder it will be to build more. Dodgem I and Schwabinchen fell victim to #16

Don't forget, MF couldn't be built on the frontier or #16 couldn't be built where Chaos, Trokia, and Dedgem I stood.

Let's NOT bring up the space problem AGAIN! Once CP moves into the parking lot than it could be discussed. CP has plans for at least the next 3 years or perhaps longer than that, you don't plan for a major ride in one year, they know exactly what they are doing.

And if I recall correctly, they already have land along route 2, east of the park set aside for parking.

Ok, let's all take a big breath. This isn't a "running out of space" discussion, as far as I can tell. This is an issue of where would be a good place for the next coaster.

I have heard about the space between Gemini and Mean Streak but that isn't really accessible. There is the railroad, for one, as well as the Planning and Zoning building, an employee break area, and retail/food stores.

I can't think of any reason that P&Z HAS to be in that location. Years ago there was talk of moving some of the offices to an off-point location. Maybe they can combine offices for Personnel & Purchasing (making more parking in the Marina area), P&Z (freeing space back by Gemini), Housing (that and tearing down Cedars would free space) and other administrative offices that really don't have to be on the Peninsula.

Theres always more room on the MF island! Station could be just off of a midway. Personally I liked the idea of the woodie "L" shaped by oceana. I also noticed that there is the picnic pavilion near Bluestreak and Raptor that seems to be hardly used, or could be relocated. Theres plenty of space, you just have to look!

It's been so long since I got to use this one...

Cedar Point does not have a space problem(TM).

If they build another woodie, I can almost guarantee that it will be on the exterior of the park or on the island. They visually block things beyond them, so it wouldn't make sense to put them in a location where guests may miss things to do on the other sides of them.

Woodies, especially tall ones, take up tons of space because they have to be wide to support the taller parts of the ride. Although they don't have a space problem, finding a place to have a wide enough plot of land to support a huge lift is kind of limited.

I would have liked CP to go with a company like CCI for a mid-sized coaster that kicks total ass like The Legend, but they went belly up. I hope that the Gravity Group gets some work, and establishes that they can do what CCI did. They could capture the record for most tunnels/most tunnel footage, and the steepest drop on a woodie istead of going for height.
Intamin has proven that they can build wooden coasters that are smooth, and need minimal maintenace, so perhaps Cedar Point loves doing business with them so much that they will ask them to build a giant woodie for them. From what I've seen of the park, without moving a ton of stuff around, I think that the only place for a woodie over 200 feet would be the island. It's secluded, and it wouldn't really block people from seeing much.

I love speculating about the future of Cedar Point, as well as other parks, and can't imagine what they will look like in 5, 10, 15 years! This is a great time to be a coaster lover, and if the economy gets back to where it was in 1998-1999, I think we will be in a suprise for what is ahead.

Never fear guy! There's always that little bitty company out of Pa. that calls themselves GCI.

They've been known to build a nice coaster or two.

I was super before Superstew was cool!

The problem with them is they don't build coasters with less than 0 vertical G's. That means no beloved airtime, just the force of free fall. I love their articulate trains though. The way they traverse their mangled track is awesome.

Using the parking lot for future attractions seems the way to go, in my pea sized brain.

Institute a shuttle system similar to Disney World's for the parking issue. The resort folks could use the shuttle. It'll take CF a season or 2, but I know they would get it right. :)
