Tony is a PR guy. For one person employed by the park, I would say he does a pretty darn good job. When interpreting what a good PR guys say it's equally important to listen to what they don't say. Tony didn't throw a manufacturer, part supplier, or anyone else under the bus. If it wasn't the parks fault, he could have said that.
For all we know, the park may have just decided it is too expensive to fix Skyhawk over the winter and it wanted to wait until the park was open and generated more revenue. They don't care whether the ride is running or not, they are still going to charge the same price for less service. According to some posters it would be a good idea to close all but a few attractions in the park. That would be a good business decision because the park wouldn't have any cost to operate all those attractions and people will just come to the park to stare at the closed rides.

Yes I do read the entire threads and posts before I respond or post anything. So for you accusing someone of not reading previous posts is kind of disrespectful
I was not speaking irreverent information I was merely giving some opinions and examples that happen in the real world.
I seriously doubt the park would intentionally let a ride sit and not try to fix the problem in a timely fashion.
As for my half day example I was speaking of any ride that operates and runs.

not familiar with this ride particularly, but work for a company that builds ride components. There is alot of testing involved for even seemingly off the shelf items. For items that are completely unique, then the lead times really are beyond what you would normally expect. There goes alot into build components and replacement components that just can't be rushed. Highly doubt other than the mix up previously mentioned that there is any wasted time getting this up and running.
This process is methodical, and for a reason.
And if this ride being down breaks your day at the park, sorry to hear that as there are many great rides still available. Things happen, and for any successful organization there is a learning process that happens from mistakes. (customers or vendors). Let the process work and the people overseeing do their job without micromanaging it for them.
Our family is heading down at the end of this month, and whether one ride is up or down we are still going to have a great time.

+10 on Jeff's post. Pointguru talks out of his ass so much he probably doesn't have a mouth. +10 to CP maintenance also for the hard work they put in keeping the park safe and operating great. Unbelievable how Pointguru thinks he has the information to make a judgement on the Skyhawk parts problem.

... and I don't disagree with a word. The problem is, there is not a shred of evidence that is what occurred. It is not a new ride and the park has been around for decades. The park had 6 months to supposedly maintenance the ride. That is inexcusable.
Disney Mike says there are 72 rides at the park. I'm going to have to call BS on that. 16 Coasters, 2 of which are "kid coasters" which an adult would look kind of silly riding by themselves or not allowed. So 14 coasters adults can ride, all of which close if the weather is bad. 15 Thrill rides, 14 if you don't count Skyhawk since it hasn't opened yet (13 if you consider Windseeker shuts down every time someone breaks wind in its direction). 8 Family rides, for adults, most of these are kids rides that parents can go on with their children. Adults by themselves would just be silly. 2 of the rides are duplicates. 3 water rides. That is 27 rides. Only a handful will run if the weather is bad. I know some people like the live entertainment on this site; but, I have a news flash, no one is buying admission to the park just so they can watch the shows. You also can't count Kiddie rides, Challenge Park, or Soak City as those are all separate admissions.

I'd disagree. There are people that come to Cedar Point just for the shows and atmosphere. Not everybody is into the rides.

Pointguru, I have known people that visit the park to see the shows and enjoy the atmosphere as a perfect example my retired parents make a yearly trip to relax and have a enjoyable time people watching and show watching.
I have been to the park last year to only ride Skyride and the Train merely for transportation and save wear and tear on my arthritic knees. I enjoyed watching the live shows walking along the beach, and overall just had a relaxing enjoyable day.

If I use your mentality...when rides go down mechanical, guest illness, weather, ect, I'm to get a coupon or discount...hell, they might as well make the park free then! Especially during the ttd days, that was down more during the 1st season than up.

Well Skyhawk can run with just one side. However I do agree that they will probably wait till both sides are operational again to certify the ride for 2013 as to not pay two fees. Only time will then however.

I have been trying really hard to stay out of this but you dragged me in. +1 for Jeff's post by the way.
If I am understanding Pointguru correctly (which can be rather difficult most of the time) CP should have had Sky Hawk fixed the moment the park closed. I'm sure I am not the only one to notice, but they were kind of building a giant wing coaster and new main entrance, I'm sure that took up a lot of time. Not to mention the fact that they have to disassemble every ride and put it back together (which I applaud CP for) and, oh yeah, almost forgot, I would think that the year round employees would enjoy a nice break here and there. Also if I have been reading correctly, this part was hard to obtain since the manufacturer doesn't mass produce them.
So why should CP give people a discount if rides are open. If they already have to give rain checks, discount when rides are down and all the other crap you have thrown at us, the park should just pay people to go there. I'm sure that would solve all the problems.
Please keep your "good" ideas to yourself please and start talking with you mouth and brain.
To add onto what Gatekeeper said, this problem might not have been known until April. Something most likely happened during the winter because it was running during HalloWeekends.

I can only assume you are learning disabled (I am sorry about that). I have said they have had 7 months to solve the problem and they still haven't. There is zero proof it was an inventory or part problem. Most evidence indicates someone screwed up and now only the customers are suffering because they park doesn't care about guest satisfaction.
If more people stopped making excused for poor management, I wouldn't have to post so much to point out glaring inadequacies in the park.
