what is wrong with gatekeeper?

Wasn't Iron Dragon the first of it's kind in the midwest or something? Not record breaking but it had some claim to fame when it was new didn't it?

I believe CCMR was the first ride of its kind, Combining a tubular track with a wooden structure.

Kings Island original Bat opened in 1981, ID was 87, not sure it was anything new - although it was a second gen Arrow Suspended.

Correct. Kings Island's original The Bat was the first Arrow suspended coaster. It was hardly a success as it was removed a mere two years later. Arrow went back to the drawing board, improved their product, and that's where the second gen Iron Dragon came from.

Just out of curiosity does anyone know what was the issue was? Were the reports of the lift chain being broke/damaged accurate?

I heard there was some kind of small crack in the track at the top of the lift hill they had to repair.

People hear a lot of things that fester into fact.
