I know it's just speculation, but given the fact that they were working on the top of the lift what do you think it would be?
My first thought was a broken chain. The lift motor is at the bottom of the lift so it probably wouldn't be that. Obviously I don't pretend to be an expert but that's the first thing I thought of.
Cedar Point just tweeted: "Ride update: GateKeeper will not open today. But hey - 71 other awesome rides await you!"

Agreed, hopefully it's nothing too major. I for one really like GateKeeper, just the way she was on opening day.. Wait, I didn't get to ride on opening day 2013 since the winds shut 'er down while I was in line. :(
Looks like we were im line together then because thats what happened to me :(
I'd speculate it's something with the piece that the chain goes around up there - perhaps it broke or got mangled somehow. What else could really go wrong up there that would require this much downtime? There are a couple proximity switches up there, but I think they have spares of those on hand and they are a simple swap. Even if the track cracked, they'd have probably welded it by now.

How recent have you gone those two weeks?I went last year during the third week of August and left Kennywood early because Adam posted on FB that lines were extremely short. I got to CP and everything was a walk on. That was a Thursday. Friday was also minimal waiting for everything.
Maybe things got back to "normal" for the last 2 weeks of August. Either that or I just hit some really bad days when I used to go those weeks.
