What happened to the OG's?

I have been reading here since 2003, but only recently started posting. It’s always fun to come back here.

I'm guess I'm "OG" too as I've been here since the GTTP/Virtual Midway days. I joined in 2002 during the TTD speculation and never left. Those were fun times haha. I visit the site nearly every day but only chime in when I think I can actually add something to the conversation. I'd like to more often but as many have pointed out, it seems the overall conversation level is reduced, unless we're counting the number of times someone noticed the buckets were closed for the day haha.

I'm sure this is going to sound ironic and nuts considering my signature, but I couldn't agree more about the CP Facebook groups. Until ours, I've never been a social media guy and don't have experience with any of the others beyond Facebook. I started it there because for what it is, a Facebook group was kind of the best fit. But I've prided myself on not allowing it to become the bitch fest that most of them are, and am happy to say that we're a very positive and fun community. I've made lifetime friendships through our group over the past 2 years. So while I'll agree that 99% of social media is noise, if done right it can be good.

Jeff and mods: this was intended to add to the discussion as it seemed relevant, and not be a plug for my group. If I violated anything in this post, please accept my apologies!

Yep I'm still here as well although I changed my screen name back in the summer of 2012? Was originally on the GTTP/ Virtual midway sites as well back around 1998/99 I believe. Been here through the discussions of the building of MF, Wicked Twister and the original TTD speculation which was fantastic. Like others have said, I try to be at least a weekly lurker but jobs/ daily life/ yardwork get in the way.. Have way more responsibilities now then when I first joined. Wish I could turn back time to the good old days..... now we're just stressed out. #21pilots.

PS Hope everyone on here has a terrific holiday season.

As others have mentioned, I have been around since before Guiding to the Point and Virtual Midway merged. I still very much enjoy going to Cedar Point. I still have a season pass, and go several times a year. Most days I will skim the topics here. However I find that most of the time, I don’t feel like I have much to contribute to the discussion.

What's crazy is... A lot of the screen names I hadn't seen in a while are now responding to this.

Anyone heard from Juggalotus?

Juggalotus? I didn’t realize there is a fellow juggalo on the forum. We just expanded our topics for discussion, expect some more web traffic, Whoop Whoop!

Sit tight fellas ;) Whoop, Whoop Juggalos!

John (Juggalotus) is still around, just not on here. Like a lot of us, "grown up" life seems to be keeping him occupied.

I propose moving the next Gathering to Sandusky.

I've never considered myself to be one of the site's OGs, but I've been a "Guide to the Point" / Pointbuzz member since December 2001...so I guess that makes me a bit of an old timer. Although I've infrequently posted over the years, I still the check the recent posts on a weekly basis and truly appreciate all of Jeff and Walt's efforts to give this community such an amazing home over the years.

If all the players are ready...at the sound of the bell, ROLL EM!

I grew up on this site. Joined in 2002, I believe. I used to log on about 20 times a day. Now I'm just a casual lurker.

I do remember all of the screen names being mentioned though!!

I certainly don't always post a lot- but I have been here since 2007. I disappeared for a while honestly because I had young children and wasn't going to the park much. But once my kids became the perfect ages now we park more than ever and have recently been able to visit several new parks as well. Just the natural cycles of life I guess.

I joined this site in 2004. I worked at the park the 1974 season. Only visited the park a couple times afterwards in season. Was there for industry seminars in the winter, the last one in the late 1990's. I tend to stay in the background mainly because I consider it a bit of a learning experience. My Cedar Point for the most part no longer exists, it ceased to be about fifty years ago. If you want to know how it was when George Roos and Emil LeGross ran it, I'm one of the shrinking number of people who does.....

I was mostly posting to CoasterBuzz. I'll do better in 2026!

I sort of love the dicotomy of contrasting this thread with the alpinegist vs Raptor thread. A guy who was posting 25 years ago still checks in at least to say happy holidays. When you consider how much the world has changed in those years, it is affirming to me that the OGs are still here. Remember, that thread opened in a world without Millennium Force. Coasters were half as tall. I suspect it would not be hard for me to find someone here who was born after that thread started. After all, that thread itself is old enough to have been a fairly senior ride op at the park.

And yet, the OGs are still here. Happy holidays everyone. B-)

I do more lurking than posting. I am also crazy busy! Work, Wife & I trying to enjoy life, 11 Grandkids from ages 4-14 and still helping my own 3 daughters and other family. Still love this place. To echo Jeff - The Forum sites still offer more than Apps!

Ahhhhh C.P. My Happy Place!

Haven't posted on this thread, probably because I wasn't sure what an OG was. That should tell you, though, that I've been around a while. Pretty sure I was the first Cedar Point FT employee to log on to the internet when my department got the first desktop computer somewhere around '95. Think the first park-centric website I came across was the Ultimate Guide to Theme Parks but Guide to the Point wasn't too far behind. As an "insider" it was awfully fun to read what those on the outside speculated about...almost always wrong.

I give Jeff and Walt credit because they were certainly amongst the first wave of enthusiasts who developed respected relationships with parks, providing more credibility to what they were doing.

I don't post here much anymore because I don't get to the park with any frequency and most of my contacts there have retired (or been terminated, unfortunately). There is probably a little bit of internalize obstacles as well because I long for what I perceived to be "better times".

The answer is really just “Life”. Just thinking about my feeling of disgust with management when I received the quarterly meeting notice, I thought “I haven’t checked Pointbuzz in quite a while…”

I'm still alive, just don't make it to the point very often anymore now that I live in Oklahoma. The last few times I've visited the point it feels as if it's lost the magic it used to have. Assuming that just means my tastes have refined. Good to see a lot of old names in this thread.
