What do you think about souvenir cups?

This season I added on platinum dining to my pass. So far I have been able to use it just fine at Carowinds and Kings Dominion. I feel the real issue is that CP souvenir cups are a pain in the butt to carry but also (correct me if I'm wrong) only used at the park in which they are purchased? I highly doubt CP would allow me to use a cup I purchased at Carowinds on their opening day. Then again, in the interest of good customer service I could be wrong.

That said, I personally would be okay with a platinum beverage option. Just like dining, I would gladly pay an extra $20 or $30 to get X amount or heck even unlimited fountain drinks per visit regardless of the park I am at. As long as it's priced fairly and I feel I will get value out of the add on then I would do it. Let people who visit maybe once or twice per season get suckered into purchasing a cup, let individuals who go to multiple parks, multiple times a year not deal with that headache.

Also, I usually just ask for a cup or two of ice water at food stands through out the day. They're free and better for you on a hot day.

In the past I havd used my Gatekeeper cup at Kings Island and my Banshee cup at Cedar Point. I always just fill my cup with water unless I need caffeine. The only thing is that if your cup melts then you have to go to the original park to get it replaced. They also forgot to add my new cup into the system so I spent 10 minutes with a supervisor at Kings Island saying that I had a false cup. He gave me the drink free though.

SV ruins all other rides.

I am fortunate enough to have a wife who is not a fan of coasters and most spinney rides, but is a season pass holder, too. She carries the cups on the backpack strap...no locker needed.

We used to get multiple Souvenir cups at each park, but now we are down to one and we share. My wife gets refills as needed when my daughter and I are in the lines.

As for using them at other Cedar Fair parks, that was my big question. Can we? We were at Carowinds opening day and purchased a Souvenir cup. We were at Kings Island opening day last Saturday and bought KI Souvenir cup. During the course of that day, I saw a few people with Carowinds Fury 325 Souvenir cups filled with cola.

So, I assume this means that one CAN use a cup purchased at one Cedar Fair park at any of their other properties. I am tempted to contact CP about this if no one here knows 100% for sure.

We used our CP cups at KI last year and had no problems, they worked just fine. When I purchased new ones online for this season there was nothing that stated they are only valid at the park where they were originally purchased. The terms simply state that there are free refills on day one and $.99 each time thereafter.

Well that's good at least, having never purchased one I wasn't sure about the policy if they were valid at other parks. Thanks for the correction!

I would still rather just have a add on option to the dining plan, even if it was a smaller 16oz. size beverage.

This may sound weird, but I have never even enjoyed drinking out of those type cups, the size straw and the plastic seems to distort the flavor and carbonation to me.

As was posted awhile back in this thread, it looks like the metal detectors in lines for coasters at Universal is now permanent and expanded. They are used to prevent riders from carrying on phones, keys, change, etc...

And as I posted before, if this spreads to regional parks you won't have to worry about getting a locker just for your cup.

And before the entitlement crowd starts demanding free lockers because there's no choice but to carry keys and change. Theres plastic debit/charge cards, room keys and my car key has been plastic since 2007. Also, I'm not sure the parks position on fanny packs as this seems to address items falling out of pockets.

Kennywood has a good locker policy in which I believe the first 60-90 mins are free then after that you pay 1$ for an additional hour.

I'd be pissed if they did that at Cedar Point. They're trying to solve a problem that barely existed in the first place. I don't follow Universal forums, so I don't know if there has been any backlash to this policy change but they do offer free lockers there. I think this would just be a huge inconvenience and reduce capacity. I don't think it would do much good to enact such a policy at Cedar Point.

Universal's Main gate all day lockers are about the same price as CP's Main gate lockers. The lockers near the non-loose items rides are free while visiting THE ATTRACTION (not unlimited time). Other lockers are available for $$$.

I'm not sure it would reduce capacity, as it is done before they enter or very early on in the queue, it would probably increase capacity by preventing the ride ops from stopping the ride for idiots taking out phones and cameras.

^ I was thinking the same thing about the phone issue. I'm self-employed and a client may need to reach me while I'm in the park. Keeping my phone with me will allow me to address clients through calls or email. I'd hate to lose business because of some asinine policy. I can only see that negatively impacting park attendance and ridership on those rides at Universal.

And that is another reason I like to take my phone with me. I like to do some web browsing while in line. The new PointBuzz is so much better to use on phones. I also like to read Facebook and Twitter while I'm in line.

They should have something like the collapsible cup linked below. This goes flat enough to easily fit in cargo pockets.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

I believe some people were even told to remove their wallets from pockets, even zippered pockets. They basically want your pockets to be 100% empty so even carrying plastic wouldn't be allowed. Although I am not sure how the guest were told to remove their wallet. If someone asks me if my pockets are empty, I am going to tell them yes. Unless they are doing body searches now too.

I'm curious if they will still sell food/drink in the queues. What is the point if they are going to make me put my wallet in a locker?

You purchased a Cedar Point souvenir cup, from Cedar Point, with no stipulations that it was valid anywhere other than Cedar Point. Therefore, those terms directly or indirectly imply that the cup is only allowed to be used at Cedar Point.

Take another example. Panera Bread owns the Arizona-based chain Paradise Bakery. When you buy a gift card at one brand, they don't necessarily tell you that you can't use it at the other. You still can't, because you didn't buy it from the other chain.

Whether or not Cedar Fair elects to treat it as such is another story entirely.

Cedar Fair has obviously been aware of this issue since the introduction of the refillable cups, therefore to date - Cedar Fair has indeed treated this matter in an entirely different story than Panera Bread treats their gift cards. Until the parks tell me that I cannot use a cup from CP anywhere but CP I will continue to use them at whatever park I am at.

Our CP cups scanned at KI, I was even asked if I wanted to re-activate it that day for free re-fills - this alone tells me CF doesn't care what cups are used at what parks - so long as they were legitimately purchased at some point during that year is all that apparently matters to them. If they didn't want this to be the case then I highly doubt the cups would scan at other parks.

^That is true, but like I said - since the cups scan at any park I'd have to say it is their policy to allow it. Now, if we go to use them this season and the folks at another CF park say were sorry but you can only use a cup at the park of original purchase - it wouldn't upset me at all. It might not even happen to begin with as my wife was slightly embarrassed that I brought them to KI with us last year so they just may end up unpacked somehow...

The only separate matter outside of the refillable cup policy of CF is whatever point you are attempting to make/argue over. My original post was a direct response to a question in regards to whether or not you can use a souvenir cup at a different park, to which I responded with several facts. Fact, we went to KI last year with CP cups, we re-filled them numerous times, they scanned properly, and we were asked if we wanted to re-activate them for a days worth of free drinks.

Based upon this information one can logically conclude that at least the de-facto policy is that CF is fine with people using cups at whatever park they wish. When I purchased the cups this year there was nothing stated that would change that de-facto policy, therefore one can also logically conclude that you will be able to do the same again this season. This will continue to be a reasonable conclusion until there is new information, such as an employee stating otherwise, the fine print stating otherwise, or the cups simply not scanning at another park - thus my original comment of the lack of such new information so far this year.

All of this in spite of the color of the sky and something about a bakery in Arizona selling gift cards that cannot be redeemed at Panera Bread, but I digress into a separate matter... as you did previously.

At least he didn't pull a Screamster.

I think Cedar Point should make it FREE for the first hour, then after that charge you the price they want to charge. I understand Cedar Point wants to make money off of people, but a lot of times, I'll ride Millennium Force and then go to another ride that might be on the other end of the park. When I come back, I have to pay that price to retrieve my souvenir cup or tripod.

Y'all make TPR look like a friendly group, and for what? Removing myself from an argument where I made a single logical point only to be argued against, supplying no new information?

I will say this one more time, get it through your thick skull. Just because an organization doesn't tell you that what you buy can't be used at another organization, doesn't mean it can. You bought a CP cup, from CP, not from CF and not from KI. There is no obligation to allow this based on mythical terms of sale.

THIS IS TRUE WHETHER OR NOT THEY CHOOSE TO ALLOW YOU TO DO IT ANYWAY. THEY ARE NOT OBLIGATED TO.

Take your personal attacks and shove them. So bloody immature.
