I think Honorarius was saying that if you buy the cup, you save money on getting the drinks, but that money you save ends up going to locker rentals. And in his/her case it just cost more money in the long run, which is pretty much the general consensus here.

I just made some basic calculations for buying a souvenir cup vs buying drinks each time. I'm calculating this off memory so correct me if I'm wrong and I'm calculating it based on 10 visits per season, adjust variables accordingly.
Initial Cup Purchase: $15
Locker Rentals, I'm going off the assumption that it's a lower crowd day and you can get MF & Rougarou in one rental, Magnum & TTD in another and Gatekeeper by itself: 2 x $3: $6: $60 per season
Refill once per day: $1: $10 per season
Total season cost: $85
VS
Buying drink once per visit at Coke Freestyle:
10 x 4.29: $42.90 per season
It costs twice as much if you get a souvenir cup than it does to just buy a drink each time.
Yes, I do think they need a better storage solution, but from the park's perspective, locker rentals bring in money and I really don't think they would want to lose that money, but cup sales could increase if there were a better solution offered, which would make money as well. If they were to offer storage, it would cost $25 per season on drinks based on the calculations above, which is a significant difference and makes less money.

I have saved a lot of $ with my souvineer cup by just filling it with Water it's Free!! Soft drinks on occasion too I had it before where I was with friends and brought my cup from a previous trip and they refilled mine for Free!!! So filling it with water saves a lot of Money too! Especially on very Hot Days!!!

Holy Cow!
How many people would fill it only once per trip--especially on a hot day?
Alternate scenario:
2 people buy 2 cups: 2 x $15 = $30
Locker costs as calculated by Thabto: $60 per season
Refill, 2 people x 2 refills x 10 visits x $1: $40 per season Total: $130
vs 2 people x 2 drinks x 10 visits: 40 x $4.29 = Total: $171.60
a family of 4 at 2 refills x 10 visits would be $200 with the Souvenir Cup scenario vs $343.20 buying 2 drinks per person over 10 visits

How about another alternate scenario:
1 cup online = $ 9.99
Locker Costs = $0 Simply leave the cups in a grassy area out of people's way. Usually can find such a spot in an area where people park strollers...
Refill once per day for 10 visits = $9.00 (1st day is free)
Total cost = $18.99
Vs:
Coke Freestyle
10 x 4.29: $42.90 per season
Savings of $23.91, so you can even have your cup stolen twice and still be ahead...

Wait.. Why are you carrying the cup around all day, going so far as to rent a locker to store it, yet only filling it once? If you're using a locker for 6+ hours after the initial fill, that soda is going to be long since hot and flat by the time you finish. Why not fill it, drink it, and put it back in the car?
Just an FYI, if you're planning on buying Souvenir Cup(s) online, the price for the cups at some of the other parks that are open, or will be opening soon has gone up to $10.99 a piece.

^^ For one, that's alot of pop if I use it more than once per day. And if I'm at the back of the park when I'm done, I'd lose almost an hour going back to the car, depending on how far back I am in the lot. I'd rather do things at my own pace than plan my day around getting a drink. The best solution I found is don't buy the cup, which worked very well last season.

His point was that in your specific scenario, yes, buying a cup is not ideal.
However, I don't think your scenario is a realistic comparison. Someone buying a cup is going to be filling it more than once in the day. I'm with Junderhill, stash the cup or leave it on top of the lockers or in a bush. It probably won't be messed with.
Or, like others have said, just drink water, because pop is ridiculously bad for you.
While I'm on this, has anyone ever rented a locker for just a cup? Ever?
All of this math stuff hurts my head.
I buy three cups, in this case $5 each in the pre-season.
We refill them at least once per visit, sometimes more.
The kids made 17 visits to the part last summer (likely a record that will stand.) I made 24 visits.
For some of us, the raw dollars work-out. I also get the popcorn cup and refill that before we leave-better to snack on during the week while burning Rose's Candles.
As for lockers: I will NOT be ripped off buy renting them. It is a personal choice of course. I simply don't ride the coasters requiring them, period. I'll hit those coasters when visiting with friends among whom one or more won't ride and can watch the baggage. I think the cost for the lockers is simply insane and one of the more foul expenses they nail some people for. I worry more about the spread of such things and a reduction of cubbies on other rides.

We're a family of four and I figure, a cup is $10 and if we'd share it all day, it would be cheaper just to get a new cup each visit with free refills than it is to refill it all season. Maybe. But we don't get a cup, we don't want to carry it around. We drink water mostly but have a soda with meals.
I had the opportunity to get a $10 wristband for drinks all day at Kings Island last summer and that was awesome. Nothing to carry around at all. I'd gladly pay $10 a visit for drinks with a wristband vs. a cup. Considering how we pounded the drinks there, yeah, $10 for a new cup with free refills each time would probably be better if we were to do it. Which we won't.

This season I added on platinum dining to my pass. So far I have been able to use it just fine at Carowinds and Kings Dominion. I feel the real issue is that CP souvenir cups are a pain in the butt to carry but also (correct me if I'm wrong) only used at the park in which they are purchased? I highly doubt CP would allow me to use a cup I purchased at Carowinds on their opening day. Then again, in the interest of good customer service I could be wrong.
That said, I personally would be okay with a platinum beverage option. Just like dining, I would gladly pay an extra $20 or $30 to get X amount or heck even unlimited fountain drinks per visit regardless of the park I am at. As long as it's priced fairly and I feel I will get value out of the add on then I would do it. Let people who visit maybe once or twice per season get suckered into purchasing a cup, let individuals who go to multiple parks, multiple times a year not deal with that headache.
Also, I usually just ask for a cup or two of ice water at food stands through out the day. They're free and better for you on a hot day.
