What are they thinking ?!

So much for the class action lawsuit.

You mean it was the simple fact that CP had not updated their website yet? I'm glad we used 17 pages in this thread for that.

^At least it spared us from 17 pages of wait time estimation. Frankly this is the most exciting topic in months and I'd be bored with this website if it wasn't here :)

Besides, it clearly wasn't a mistake because now the bonus has vanished off the face of the earth. Unless they have some poor site management and the change of a 0 to a 3 resulted in the bonus information getting deleted. This was clearly a change in the policy directed from on high.

I don't buy that it was simply a matter of the website not being updated. I think it is more likely that the calls came pouring in, perhaps they got a press inquiry or two, and some management decisions were changed/altered/reversed.

I also find it interesting that there is now no mention at all of the bonus.

I may be completely wrong...but my experience and gut instinct tells me there is more to the story.

$7.30/hour, no bonus, no contracts. Have fun with that!

And parking will be $10 until about the 4th week of July when they will bump it up to $11.

I think the no bonus and no contracts thing is going to make staffing from late July until the end of the season a complete nightmare. My understanding is that with no contracts, there wouldn't be a way to make you a no rehire if you quit, and between that and no bonus, it's going to be impossible to keep people around.

I don't know how much the small hourly bonus from the beginning of the season really helped with retention. But, I have to believe that the larger Halloweekends bonus did, in fact, make a difference. Maybe that is something they will throw back out there late in July as a carrot to the staff.

But, that could backfire. If employees decide they won't work the Halloweekends because there is no bonus they are liable to set themselves up with a Fall job back home or at school. So, if CP changes course and decides to offer the bonus after all then that might put an employee in the position of backing out of a job in order to stay at the Point for an extra few weekends.

This still amounts to a wage decrease. Maybe the BUNAC hiring is going well and the powers-that-be don't think they will have a hiring problem this year. With the economy hurting, particularly in Ohio/Michigan, maybe they will get more folks willing to make minimum wage vs nothing at all.

It's a gamble....that was handled poorly for sure.

Ok so I didn't read this whole thread so if its mentioned in here please excuse me and point me in the right direction. But I keep seeing mentions of no contracts this year, where did everyone see this at? Is it set in stone that there arn't any contracts? Thanks for your help!

Nothing on the website says anything about contracts. However, I think the assumption is that contracts and bonus go hand in hand. If there is no bonus on the line, the employee has nothing on their end of the contract to make them honor it and so what's the point of making a contract?

Jugga hit the nail on the head.

I've heard from the right people that contracts are non-existent this year. And Jugga was right, as well.

I guess they are no longer worried about staffing during late-August and September/October weekends. Interesting.

Interesting to see if those that "work there for fun" will be willing to drive back to Sandusky in the Fall with no incentive hanging out there other than the "fun" of Halloweekends.

Hypothesis: CP isn't as worried about large numbers of its employees jumping ship this year, since unemployment is so high already and still climbing. If so, that's bad logic. A lot of college kids will quit a bad job at the drop of a hat, regardless of whether they have a backup plan. I know, I did (decades ago).

Or, maybe contracts are still in the works, and everyone here hasn't yet put away their jump to conclusions mat?

Nope, definitely heard from a reliable person that there won't be a bonus or contracts this year.

The economy is bad, but minimum wage jobs aren't hard to find.

Who's your reliable source? Because I'm sure if it were true, it would have been said or posted somewhere.

I had a good "Reliable" car once called a Fiat.... Turns out it wasn't so reliable so that word doesn't carry much credibility for me either.

Fiat = Fix it again Tony.... I'm sure they will meld well with Chrysler's philosophies...
