Ahhh I forgot about the Lesbians on the Merry Go Round.... Good times!!!!! I could go to tofts (Ice cream parlor by the front of the park), buy some icecream, and go out and sit on a bench watching them all day long.
Thanks for the bar referral Jeff, I'll have to visit there when I'm in the Cleveland area.
Thanks Jugga for information on cider. I hope to come across this some day, it sounds good.
I am going to keep silent for now on the 80's sneakers response and wait for this person to answer Pete.
I bought a 6 pack of Smithwicks a couple of years ago for New Years Eve. I made the mistake of drinking one. The other 5 were left at my friends house. When I went back for a New Year's party last year those same 5 beers were given back to me because no one would drink them. I don't blame them.
We'll miss you MrScott and Pete
Does anyone else find it amusing that they chose a picture of someone holding a wad of cash for the page that shows the wage rate?

Cider's good, but it's no match for 90 Minute IPA. :-D
I'll have a drink off with you regarding that sir! And if it's any credit to my resume... I have YET to lose a game of quarter bounce.
I got an email from the state today. Here's the email in it's entirety:
The employer must pay $7.30 per hour.
Cedar Fair is required BY LAW to pay $7.30/hr. Period.

Ok. I don't think anyone disputed that. But nothing is illegal until they actually cut a check at that rate. And there is nothing to say they can't pay less and use the courts to get the exemption put back in. Not saying that is the smart course of action, nor am I condoning it, just pointing out that it could happen.
Goodbye MrScott

The law maybe? They can't do anything to change the law. I just did some legal research and as soon as CF cuts a check with a rate at $7.00/hr on it, they can face nasty lawsuits from not only employees, BUT the state itself: http://www.myemploymentlawyer.com/Ohio-minimum-wage-law-amendment.h...ementrules

We understand that. So lets wait and see IF that actually happens.
I wouldn't say they can't do anything to change the law. You don't pay fancy lawyers for nothing. They've gotten state exemption in the past, I don't doubt they'll at least try for an exemption again.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you

thunderop - that's not my point. My point is that CP could try getting the law changed via the courts. This isn't as cut and dry of a case as some seem to make it seem. Yes, they would be breaking the law by cutting a check under minimum wage, but that is not the end of it, nor are lawsuits.
On the other hand, maybe Cedar Point is just dumb enough to have posted an incorrect wage on their website and not noticed it. As I asked a page ago (and don't feel like reading through the whole thread to see if I missed the answer) has anyone actually contacted the park to see if 7/hr is accurate or was a typo on their part?
Goodbye MrScott
John
I'm sorry to hear your bad experience with Smithwick's, Vince. It's terrific on draft. I've never had it in a bottle or can.
As an aside, just for some useless beer knowledge, Smithwick's is actually pronounced, "smiddicks" or "smithicks". It's also brewed by Guinness.

I sent them an email and they never replied.

I'm guessing Catbert over in HR is going to let you stew for a while.
My author website: mgrantroberts.com.
I am by no means a lawyer (thank god) and do not have the energy to actually read all the links in this thread.
However, this seems to be a stewing situation that may need to be resolved in the courts if they take that route. Also, this could be along drawn out affair… The courts are slow as is a lawyer working on a case at an hourly wage.
This being said (again, I do not know the labor laws in Ohio). I would advise anyone to fine review any contract they are signing onto. There may be loop holes and such that you may sign that says you accept thewage and take bonuses on as compensation of the lower wage. Just be careful andlook at the fine print. I will admit, I have not looked at the fine print inthe past and may have agreed to things I did not realize.
Forget the court of law. Forget the State of Ohio. Forget what Dick thinks or what HR wants. The only thing that matters here is the court of public opinion.
They have two choices. Pay the minimum wage - or - don't pay it and try to fight it out. If I'm a parent who has ANY influence over his child and I see he/she is interested in going to work at Cedar Point I will simply state the obvious:
Why would you want to work for a company that doesn't value you, and doesn't want to pay it's employees the MINIMUM wage?
I think it is that simple.
